Yes. They're fairly common in my area at the dz's I pack for. In my opinion, they are not more difficult, just different. I actually prefer the closing sequence on a Racer versus the 'standard.' There's a couple tricks. I haven't done a search, but a good Racer thread was in this forum a few months back. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

No kidding! I just glanced at the scores, but I saw Nicklaus near the top, somewhere like E or +2? I sure hope he makes the cut too _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

For those of you who keep up with golf, (I know, just a handful) it was an emotional first round in Augusta at the Masters for Tom Watson. The Bruce Edwards story is here: http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/masters04/columns/story?columnist=maisel_ivan&id=1778608 Sure brought a tear to my eye when I heard the news, even more so when I watched them walk to the 18th hole last year at the U.S. Open. Also, its Arnold Palmer's 50th and last time to walk the greens at the Masters... what an amazing career. Anyone else following? _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

Mine's gullible. And I know all you suckers are seeing stars. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

She can. Woman, I am heartbroken too for you and your family's loss. I don't have words of wisdom at the moment, but I just wanted to say I'm adding you and your family to my prayers tonight, that ya'll may be comforted in a time of trial. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

Never seen it, but now explains why TribalTalon's sig used to be 'just call me darko' or something like that... weirdo. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

If you're comfortable, go ahead and play with it and hook it up. Its a good learning experience. Before jumping your setup, have a rigger look over your work. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

how many of yall have intentionally stalled a canopy
brits17 replied to TribalTalon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey Donnie. I just wanted to add that maybe I will stall my velocity one of these days after all. I told you I had done it on my Sabre a few times, but got my panties in a wad thinking of stalling at a relatively high wingloading. After reading some responses, I think it may be time to play. And uhh, like I told you before, don't do that crap at 1k, crazy ass. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com -
I agree. I was referring to his pin cover flap (having no significant marks on it to rub on the loop and cause fraying after the rig was closed) in case it was unclear. Anyway, yeah.

Your rig's flap appears to be in immaculate condition, there's nothing there that should create the type of fraying your loop had. What it appears to be, is the pull up cord stretched the loop to the point of fraying, the loop could have been stretched through the grommets, or it was damaged with a temp pin. This is all done during the closing sequence. A rigger can make a temporary 'cover-up' by applying silicone to the loop, but the damage will eventually show. Just my opinion from what I saw. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

Nuclear spin tomography... not familiar with the procedure. I had an MRI done, which pointed out the problem. Is that going to show the same outcome? Thanks for your input. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

or not... almost exactly a year later, here i am again with the same problem. i wanted to bump this thread to share the experience, see if any one else has been there, and what was done as a solution. My shoulder has recovered nicely from surgery, I've been back jumping for 8 months now. Yesterday, while goofing around doing flippy-doo's in the swimming pool, I launched a back flip and out slipped my right shoulder. Quickly went back into place, but the usual haunting feeling is back again. Its undoubtedly sore today. Before throwing suggestions out there, let me say what's been done thus far. I had orthoscopic surgery, reattaching the two torn posterior ligaments back to the bone. Diligently stretched and strengthened the shoulder, and up to this day, I have full strength back with 95% range of motion. I'm a fitness fiend, so honestly I am not understanding what is going on. With the rest of upper body strengthening, I always pay close attention to anterior, medial, and posterior deltoid exercises. From the rumor mill, and the doctor, the success rate of the ortho surgery is around 90%, significantly higher for youngsters (like myself). Apparently if it dislocates even after surgery, you're screwed. Or so I hear. This is greatly disturbing, as to I don't want my skydiving/base career ending at 21 due to a faulty shoulder. I'm in no way giving up hope, this will only make me try harder, but I'm at a loss at the moment on what to do. Like before I will try everything in my power to carry on, without placing myself at greater risk... despite the disheartening situation. Comments, suggestions? _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

The only flat pack I've seen in the recent past is a strong tandem. Most riggers are PRO packing sport reserves. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

how long did is take you to get back in the sky
brits17 replied to DOCsa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hmm, had 2 large tears in rotator cuff ligaments that required surgery. Doc said at least 6 months, I made it back in 5. I was 90% healed up by then. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com -
Depends on what you're jumping. If its a canopy loaded at 1:1 or less, I wouldn't think it would make much of a difference as far as flight characteristics. Start loading it higher and you will probably feel the drag. This is just from my experience. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

Like folks have noted, depends on where you're wanting to replace the bartack. The method I've used is straight lock stitch followed by a tight zig-zag. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

OMG!!!! This is absolutely classic blackmail... sorry Treeman, but he did himself in on this one. BTW Brains, is he out at SSM at all? _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

whats the most amazing/beautiful thing you have seen under canopy?
brits17 replied to Newbie's topic in The Bonfire
Was at collegiates in Lake Wales, FL a couple years ago doing a sport accuracy jump. At 3K, I look beside me and there's a bird (medium to large size, and I have no clue what kind, so don't ask) flying directly 90 degrees to my right, about 15 feet away. He stayed with me for about 1K feet as we flew around each other. At 1500, I realized I'd better let the bird do its own thing as I had to concentrate on the target now But that was the coolest thing ever. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com -
I have never seen the apparatus, so take this with a grain of salt. If you have seen a cypres battery, there's a wire that connects from the battery to the unit. I heard that similarily, on the vigil, that wire was pinched when installed, and it caused a misfire. Someone with more knowledge of the situation may be able to expand on this. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

hey nice job there snow

I voted to keep it, simply because if it weren't for skydiving, I wouldn't BASE. I can't think of another related sport that can say the same (ie: parachute experience is in general, a necessity). I say that with extreme caution, note I said 'in general.' _______________________ aerialkinetics.com
