But not the crutches I hope!

I found the following on the net : Bill Cole the legend Wow, the stuff you were doing back then! All without cypreses, audibles and every other modern day gadget. I interviewed a British skydiver (Dean Fisher) from the same era for the Skydivemag. Seems that it took a lot more balls to skydive back then, but you guys seemed to have a blast! And you say the chuteless jumps weren't a big deal? You have my respect man! Will

I agree. We had an incident in the army where one of our section patrols drew effective fire (three rounds) from a minibus with two occupants. They returned fire. Net result : 180-something rounds in minibus and both occupants dead. Overkill? Hardly, they kept firing until the minibus stopped moving. I suppose in the movies you would aim for the tyres while the other guy was shooting at you. And in the movies you would shoot the bad guy in the knees when he points a gun at your partner. The cop on the right did the right thing. My only criticism would be of his marksmanship. You people who judge so quickly have probably never been in shitty situations like this - you are every bit as scared as the bad guy and you have to rely on your training and the guys around you to get through it. Easy for others to second-guess with hindsight via the net from the safety and comfort of their work or home.

Doesn't matter who is spotting you will still be too neurotic to get in the plane... Anyway, I want Buzz Lightyear to play me, because I'll be spotting to infinity and beyond!

Nope, Nacmacfeegle is Sean Connery. HH is more of a Woody Allen type.

GOOSE FRABAAA, GOOSE FRABAAA....

So the fact that what you stole was stolen from you almost immediately afterwards makes it OK? I've got news for you pal, if you go out and steal a car and I then steal that car from you, you are still a thief. But of course in your world you are only a thief if you happen to be a Muslim...
-
You missed my point entirely, I don't follow your thinking at all. You say the Muslims stole the land from the Jews, I turned your argument around and said that your Spanish ancestors stole the land from the Native Americans. Then you launched into some obtuse rambling blether about 'percentages' and languages and other nonsense. Let me put this in terms you can understand : I share a house in London with an English person, a Malaysian, a Syrian and an Australian. The fact that I share a house with a Muslim and a Buddhist is not something that really ever comes to mind, it is a total non-issue. They are my friends and that is all there is to it. Judging people solely on the basis of their religion is wrong.
-
And America belonged to the native Americans before your Spanish ancestors came over, killed them and stole their land. You are a hypocrite (and a shite troll).

Small Canopies and cypres's???
skreamer replied to garyharbird's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
To add to what Jim said, a lot of the top guys have swoop rigs that are used for training and comps only. So, they are mostly doing hop n pops with these AAD-less rigs, ie not having an AAD is not that big a deal (mind your head on exit and look out for birds... ). -
Nice thinking wingi - when you get the kittens please shrink wrap and vacuum seal one and post it to me here in London. Thanks dude!

For people like myself looking to start BASE, it gives us a chance to see what it is about. Just looking at the kewl videos on the net doesn't tell the whole story - all the work these guys put into making a jump. Driving far distances only to be weathered out etc. Doing ground crew definitely takes away the whole 'glamour' impression you might get if your only involvement with BASE is what you read/see on the net. Also, doing ground crew means that you get to meet quite a few jumpers in person and ask a lot of questions. Decide if it is really something you want to do and not something your ego wants you to do. Doing ground crew also means that if/when you start jumping yourself you are already known and have built up a certain level of trust. You are not just some newbie who just did a FJC and now expects a VIP guided tour to all the local sites. It takes time to build up that trust with jumpers, but what I have found personally both here and in South Africa is that when you have shown yourself to be serious about starting BASE and are doing so in a responsible manner, then the locals will generally be quite helpful. Video on the net of 418 ft swoop??????
skreamer replied to BluDvn222's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You will learn more at your student level by watching accuracy landings than you will watching hard core swooping. Personally I'd like to do more CReW (only did beginner's intro course), you learn a lot from it. -
Blue Skies, Black Death (Roger Nelson)

I posted this quote a while back, just seemed to kind of apply here. Regardless of what happened in his life, what others thought of him, he kept striving upwards. I never met the guy, just heard and read all the stories (good and bad). Facts are, he was a great innovator, an asset to skydiving and had a positive impact on many peoples' lives. My thoughts are with his friends, family and the other jumper. BSBD Will -
Video on the net of 418 ft swoop??????
skreamer replied to BluDvn222's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Plus, I'm sure lots of people can pull off monster swoops when there is no pressure. Maybe a different story when it is in competition? I'm sure lots of tennis players play their best tennis on the practice courts. -
2k Composite owners.....may I pick your noggin?

Hi Mike, I jump the FF2, one of my mates jumps the FFX. We both mostly freefly (I recently started filming FS). Changing batteries and firewiring stuff between jumps is very easy for me, not so for him. The easy access is a major bonus on the FF2. Also, what if you decide a year or two from now you want to start filming tandems or FS? Mounting stills on FFX is no problem, but taking the camera out of the helmet every time you want to change batteries will be a hassle. Will -
Considering he broke his legs it was probably more a case of roll around in agony until they found him..

Shit dude, I really hope your ex doesn't lurk here!

No need to point anything that big out to anybody...

She is even easier to spot - look for the psycho chick with the massive cranium propping up the bar...
