  1. There has been a lot of talk on who should benefit from the tax that the government collects. It is appearant that a good number of people have no real answer has to how our money should be used. On this board, a number of people seem to feel that Americans have no right to any of their money that has been taken over a good number of years. I fully believe that if you have no true need of assistance then it is stealing from all Americans to use any sort of social program. Yet, in a true time of need, social programs do help a person to get back on their feet and eventually back to contributing to society. I also believe that our elderly have a right to expect help from the country that they help build and defend in time of war. Far too many WW2 and Korean vets are being cast aside as if they but bums and not worthy of any help. This seems to be the attitude of many young people towards the old. There will come a day when many Iraq vets will be in the same shoes as the old vets. The same goes for the many young workers who will find themselves in the same shoes of the many retired elderly who have lost their pension and promised healthcare. I am asking, who should benefit from the trillions that is taken each year in taxes? Please give an honest answer and leave any anomistiy that you may have towards me out. Thank you. P.S. My answer is that the American people and the military should always benefit first. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  2. Along with $400 billion of our own And counting. At least, they're counting. I'm guessing, we should give them credit for that. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  3. I lived in Mexia, Texas for a number of years and my ex old lady grew up with her family. Maryanne knew Anna since birth. Anna's family in Mexia are very good folks. As I understood it, they were somewhat embarrased of her. I wasn't even really sure who Anna was untill Maryanne filled me in. Not really sure what to think about it. 4. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In other words, tell freethefly that he can die because he costs too much money, and since he's just circling the drain, we should be spending money on others. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- He is young and with decent health care can live a long life potentially filled with reward and happiness. Strange you should bring him into this discussion as the views you express advocate his death. ----------------------------------------------------------- Young? Maybe 47 is young. Feel much older on somedays But, thank ya for compliment anyways, babe! In alot of ways, I do agree with Lawrocket. I have never had to use any of the tax dollars that I put into the system untill my job went to Mexico and along with it, my insurance. What followed was the depleation of my 401K for healthcare. Back in 95 I depleated my mutal fund and sold all the stocks that I bought over the years. I ended up filing bankruptcy and lost everything. I'm not blaming anyone for my predictiment but myself. Yet, since 1975, when I first started working for a paycheck, I, like many others, was told that in a time of need the tax dollars that I am paying are my tax dollars and will be there if and when you need a hand up to get back on your feet. Depriving me of medications is not a hand up. Yanking all healthcare out from underneath me is not a hand up. I much rather not have to depend on the government. But, I paid for this government. I joined its military when they needed bodies. I bought into what they were selling only to find out that what they were selling was a cheap lie. Like many of our elderly, I am pissed. It is shameful that many of the elderly, many that served this country, are being denied what should be given back to them. I much rather not pay one more dime in tax to this country and keep the dimes for myself to help myself and say screw the government. I fully plan on being back on top someday and I am working towards that goal. As far as paying tax to the US government, screw them as you get zilch for your money. 5. The title of this thread suggest that Pelosi said "I want my jet" when in fact she never said such. Inappropriate use of qoutation marks. White House Defends Pelosi Plane Request Feb 8, 8:28 PM (ET) By JIM KUHNHENN WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrat Nancy Pelosi received some rare help Thursday from the White House against a barrage of Republican criticism over how the new House speaker intends to get back home. For security reasons, Pelosi is entitled to fly to her San Francisco district on military planes. The House sergeant-at-arms, who helps oversee security for the House, suggested that flying nonstop would be the safest way home for Pelosi, next after the vice president in the line of presidential succession. Republicans, led by aggressive junior lawmakers, seized on the most extreme possibility: Pelosi's flying on the military equivalent of a Boeing 757 with the latest in travel comforts. Too expensive, some critics said. Too polluting, others said. Too much ado about nothing, the White House weighed in. "I have never asked for any larger plane," Pelosi said. "I have said that I am happy to ride commercial if the plane they have doesn't go coast to coast." To presidential spokesman Tony Snow, "This is a silly story and I think it's been unfair to the speaker." During debate on a bill that encouraged research on advanced fuels, Republicans proposed an amendment urging planes diversify their fuel load to include "domestically produced alternative fuels." The amendment singled out "passenger planes with 42 business class seats capable of transcontinental flights" - exactly the specifications of an Air Force C-32 jet. "The jet that Pelosi has produces 10,000 pounds of carbon dioxide an hour, far more than the previous speaker used," said Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C. Pelosi's predecessor was Rep. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill. Flying in a large Air Force plane, Rep. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., said, "appears to remove any spending controls from our operations and dramatically increases our impact on the environment especially climate change." Snow, too, came under criticism. "He does not have a duty, as I do, to come to this floor and to discuss the consequences for our taxpayers," said Rep. John Shadegg, R-Ariz. After the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the Bush administration agreed to provide Hastert with a military plane for added security during trips back home. Hastert flew in a commuter-sized Air Force jet. Livingood said in a statement he recommended the Pentagon continue the practice, begun with Hastert, of flying the speaker back home. "The fact that Speaker Pelosi lives in California compelled me to request an aircraft that is capable of making nonstop flights for security purposes, unless such an aircraft is unavailable," he said. The Pentagon this week informed Pelosi's staff that she would be provided with a plane but the size would be based on availability and nonstop service could not be guaranteed. The Pentagon's guidelines say Pelosi could be accompanied by family members, provided they pay the government coach fare. The plane could not be used for travel to political events. Members of Congress could join her if the travel is cleared by the House ethics committee. Pelosi speculated that Defense Department officials were distorting the story as retribution for her stance against the war and former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld. "Why would the Department of Defense be not denying this information that has been conveyed?" she asked. "Why are they feeding the flames?" Snow called Pelosi's office to make sure she knew the White House supported her use of a military plane. He also distanced the White House from the GOP's take on the matter. The Republican National Committee said Pelosi was on a "power trip." Snow, asked whether the RNC is free to go after Pelosi on its own, said, "Well, apparently they did this time." -- Associated Press writer Anne Flaherty contributed to this report. 6. Ohh okay, well no sense discussing it then...we'll just act like nothing happened.... Did you hear - Clinton got a blowjob..... and lied to a grand jury about it? Skydekker, you'll get nothing from this kid but, one line smartass remarks. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  7. 12bn that would had been better spent helping Americans. To hell with the Iraqis. If they do not care to do the job on their own, to hell with all of them. Anyone who cares to flame me for my attitude towards those people, flame away. I am sick and tired of seeing my tax dollars go to people who freaking hate us. MY TAX DOLLAR would be better spent right here in America, helping Americans. Flame away! "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  8. The broken leg? Alright, I'll give you that one. But cancers and a burned child is everyones responsibilty! Should we close all of the Shriner Hospitals? Should we end all charities that collects for breast cancer research? The treatment they recieve may someday be the treatment your own may recieve and or lead to better treatment. What about AIDS treatment? I am supposing that you wish to end that also? What if someday your son or daughter contracts AIDS? To hell with them right? Not your problem! What about yourself? Can you predict the future and say that it is 100% impossible that you will ever have an affair or that your wife will ever have an affair? Uncertianty puts you or yours at risk. But then it is not your problem, now is it. Don't think that you will always be set for life. Many of rich people have found themselves completely broke for one reason or another. You are far from invincable. I use to have great insurance. I had a great job. Untill my job went to Mexico. I had a great mutal fund that paid great and would had made me very rich by age 65. Untill I got sick and needed my savings to pay doctors and lawyers. You are far from safe from what ills the world. Far to many who are cozy today believe that their world can never come crashing down. I never forseen the reality that I am facing today. So when I scream about needing some of the taxes that I paid into the system, I say fuck you to those who scream back that I am a sponge. Besides it is my life that is in jeporady so, why would I give a damn about those who hate me for wishing to stay alive. I am 100% positive that there are a number of people on this board who would rather see me dead than for me to get one dollar of my tax paid for healthcare. I do not care. Give me one reason why I should care? "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  9. With such a rise in cost of living, how can grown children with kids of their own pay for all the needs of their elderly parents? I am more than willing to do whatever I can for my mother but, I cannot possibly pay for needed medications when I am in need of medications myself and could never afford my own at full cost. You are 100% right about it all being a con job. Paying into the system was suppose to be akin to paying for insurance. Now when it comes time to have to use the coverage that was promised there is a major balk from those who are not yet in need. All tax dollars from paychecks going to the Federal government should be halted. I am in favor of paying only state taxes and allowing the state to set aside a portion of all collected tax to be used for the defence of the US borders and coastlines. No other such money should be allotted to the federal government. In fact, I am in favor of abolishing the federal government and much in favor of a confederated government. I would be much better off today had I not had to pay any federal taxes. But, you may have to. Whether you like it or not. You cannot predict the future and what may become of you. You might have a landing incident that might leave you fully paralyzed. You might be diagnosed with cancer that takes every dime you have. You might slip on a piece of ice and, again, become paralyzed from the neck down. You might walk into a convienant store during a robbery and be shot. Anything might and can happen to any of us! What then? If you have insurance, what is the guarantee that they will carry you for life when it becomes impossible to pay the premiums? You may have to turn to big brother as your life will depend on it. Whether you wish to or not, it might be the last avenue you have. And, as above, you may not be able to due to an unforseen incident. Then what? Will you say anything at all about the amount of taxes that the government took? Will you say, "I paid my fair share!!! I was there for the government and now the government has turned its back on me. Come on!!! I am going to DIE without medical attention!!!" Or, will you just shrug your shoulders and say "Oh well, just can't trust Uncle Sam. My problem. Think I'll just lay down and die." It is a shame the lies of our government to the people. It is a shame when so many believed that the tax they paid was an investment in the future. An investment in a government that will be there in time of need. That government is by the people, for the people. It is all one big lie. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  10. I can always back up what I post. Unlike you, I am not a one liner. But, wait, maybe I should be more like you and see it from your point of view! To hell with our elderly parents and any other elderly person. Hey, if they can't get up out of their beds or wheelchairs and run down to the store with food stamps inhand, to hell with them. Let them starve. Stupid old people. They are only taking up space anyways. What good are they. Once someone is to old or sick to stand on the assembly line, screw them. Worthless, they are! And this goes for all people young and old who may be sick. Let them all die. Why should tax dollars that are better spent to help people overseas be spent to help children, elderly or anyone else in the US. Damn sick people. All they ever do is take up space in the hospital. I say close all hospitals and to hell with all sick or injured people. Got a broken leg? Screw you, not my problem. What? Your child has been burned near to death? Not my problem. Your mother, wife, sister or daughter has breast cancer? Who gives a damn about her, not my problem! My tax dollars are better spent building one room schools in a war zone that will most likely be blown up. My tax dollars are better spent anywhere but in the US! Why should I care about your stupid kid? Why should I give one bit of damn at all about you or your damn family? I do not have to care if your child is suffering greatly from chemotherapy! Why should I care that your stupid kid lost all of her hair from the radiation? Ignorant brat will most likely die anyways. Better we speed up the dying process by taking away any healthcare now paid for by our taxes. Why should I care that any American is suffering? The same goes for anyone coming back from war! Why should I give a damn that half of your face was blown off? Or, your legs, or your arms, or all 4 at one time? Screw you if you didn't realize that such can happen in a war. Didn't you realize what your injuries are going to cost the taxpayer? I am now placing you in the same greedy group as the elderly, sick children, those morons with AIDS or cancer and any and all other illness. I am also starting to believe that all school lunch programs be stopped! Why should our tax dollars be used to feed someones snot nose brat when there are Iraqi kids or African kids who need our tax dollars? Let them all starve. Hell, let's end any and all social programs. No programs at all and more money for the government to pay for its pet projects and future wars. More money to spend in Iraq or anyother place other than the US. Screw all Americans who may need help! You should had realized that once the tax has been collected it now belongs to the government! Screw you and the old, sick horse you rode in on! Ahhh, feel so much better now that I am in the group that believes that government owes nothing at all to the people who paid for it. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  11. No drama, only truth. When there are people in THIS COUNTRY starving, then yes, it is a bad thing. Wasn't a PA. Just stating the obvious as you are often one of the first to cheer when Americans are being denied what their tax dollars should be helping them with, food, healthcare, education... I am happy to know that you find it amusing when I post concerning the sick, the starving, the elderly, child abuse... You should be very careful about how you feel about those who are less fortunate than yourself as you could easily find yourself in the same position someday and have to watch as all avenues of help are closed to you. I found myself in this way when I contracted AIDS. It is not so funny nor the least bit amusing. I am glad that it happened to me. I am a much better person for it. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  12. It's just his way, Wendy. Yesterday it was depriving women of potentially life-saving vaccinations, today it's depriving the elderly of care. Maybe he's related to Margaret Thatcher. I think that the word "compassion" is amongst the many words that Bush cannot pronounce. He probably finds it much easier to avoid compassion altogether. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  13. I would think that many of these people are unable to get about and that many are overburdened with healthcare cost that has taken near everything from them. The real horror is people like yourself who would much rather kick the old and sick than to help them when they need help. The shame is that this country constantly lies about how compassionate it is and constantly looks for a way to kill off anyone who may not be able to eventually fill one of its body bags. It is a shame that this country enjoys sending food to other countries only to let the people who have paid untold amounts of tax dollars into the system starve. Those tax dollars belong to Americans and should only be used to help Americans. Those dollars do not belong to the government to do as they please. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  14. Read about this astronut yesterday. Garbage bags and a knife...hmmmm.... wonder if she planned on cutting her "rival" up and then disposing of her... what a psychonaut "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  15. I am abit confused as to why you find it that GWB... Billions of dollars have been wasted and nothing has been gained. Our own government has made the world an even more dangerous place. We have lost a level of our own freedom. The culprits of 9-11 are still free to do as they please. Yet, some still believe that Saddam was the center of terror and that the Iraqis love us like our own mothers. I am very sick and tired of hearing about how bad it will get in Iraq if we leave. It is already a bloodbath. I am sick and tired of hearing how leaving will only embolden the terrorist. By us being in Iraq we are only emboldening them and creating even more people who hate us. Face it, going to Iraq was the biggest mistake that has ever been made by any US president. You say leaving Vietnam was a mistake? Shit, read some history!!!! We could had never won that war. Leaving was the best thing we could had done for those people. The same goes for Iraq. Being there is only making it worse. If these people really want peace, they have to do it on their own. No amount of military muscle is going to do it. Killing a multitude of people will not do it. The Shiitte's and the Sunni's need to do it. Not a puppet government that is bent on revenge. The billions of our tax dollars that should be used to help Americans will not bring peace to the Iraqis. The Iraqis have to do it on their own. We need to stop using our military as a crutch and force them to stand up and fight for themselves. If they do not want to do that. To hell with them. My tax dollars would be better spent right here in America helping Americans. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  16. You're kidding right? Iraq is far worse off today than when under Saddam. The vote was a joke. A purple finger? Symbolism does not make a democracy. It is a civil war and there is nothing that the US can do about it. Do you honestly believe that the Iraqi people are praising Allah that GWB invaded their country and started the ball rolling that crushed their homes, knocked out their electricity, killed near half a million people. blew arms and legs off of their children, encouraged terrorist to come to their country, created a civil war and any number of other atrocities that they now have to live with? If you are so happy for this war, why are you not there? I am sure that the Iraqis will welcome you with open arms "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  17. Maybe these morons in Boston are just looking for a way to pay for their other moronic fiasco, the Big Dig. You know, even the judge who is presiding over this, thinks the prosecutor is a moron. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  18. Yup. law enforcement at its best. Moron prosecutor patting herself on the back and praising the outstanding police work as if they just uncovered a plot to blow up Fenway Stadium during opening season. Face it, the authorities are the real morons here. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  19. Would these be the blinders you speak of? "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  20. And this would include your brainless leader George W. Bush and his band of chicken hawks who were able to avoid duty in Vietnam but, have no problem sending people to war as long as their own don't have to serve? "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  21. And... where was the equipment made? China? "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  22. I was very unjust by grouping all doctors together with the ones who are solely there for the money. After a day of being on the phone with my caseworker trying to figure out just how to get the care that is needed I was very bitter and you were right in saying so. But, at a certian level, I am just in being so. Yes, there are far more doctors who will go out of their way to do what they signed on to do than there are doctors who will not. If I riled you. I am sorry for doing so. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  23. I recently read that certian groups are less likely to experience chest pains with a heart attack. These include women, non whites of both sex and people who have had a stroke. Furthermore, people who are 75 and older or people who have nerve damage caused by diabetes. The signs that they may be having a heart attack are: shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting, pain that radiates down one or both arms, back pain, neck pain, jaw or stomach pain, cold sweat, severe headaches - more common in older adults, dizziness or fainting, anxiety, weakness, and a strong feeling of doom. She made the right call by going to the ER and you, Lindsey, made the right call with your concern. Hats off to the surgeons who performed the operation without regards to payment. 24. http://www.americanfunds.com/funds/returns/alphabetically.htm The Investment Company of America As of date the fund is at 34.19 If things ever turn around for me I most definetly will return to this fund as it always done good. I really have no problem with CEO's making great money. I do have a problem with the ones who do not perform yet still walk away with an ungodly amount of money while the company sinks. But this is off track from the original post. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  25. If the conclusion of an ivestigation shows, without question, that the instructor should be held accountable. Fortunately the instructors in our sport are highly capable and it is understood that each and every jumper who decides to jump from an aircraft does so at his/her own risk as you are not forced to do so. You assume the risk of injury or death. However, if an instructor has shown that they are incapable, they will not be employed to instruct. When it comes to a simple or not so simple surgury we place our lives in the hands of the surgeon if we wish to prolong our lifes and in this case the surgeon must continue to show that they are capable. All to often a doctor can bounce from hospital to hospital all the while performing in a less then desirable capacity. These doctors are much to blame for litigation and spiraling healthcare cost as is the system that allows them to do such. The system has also allowed those who seek to file lawsuits for the non-life threatening mistakes to do so resulting in high malpractice insurance. In some cases caps on monetary payout is great when in other cases it does nothing to make the mistake right. If a doctor screws up and causes me to be paralyzed for life then someone needs to pay for my care. That someone should be the doctor who caused me to be burdened. If a doctor used a tongue depressor that put a splinter on my tongue, no harm done and I would be only causing undue grief to file a suit. Parameters need to be defined and set and everyone from the patient to the doctor need to be held to them. I took the advice of a broker back in 88 and started investing in a mutal fund through ICA. By 95 it was worth close to $50,000.00. When I entered into it shares were around $12.00. When I withdrew shares were around $40.00. I only withdrew as I needed the money to pay the debt that I had from my illness. Doctors and lawyers are not cheap. Not to mention the penalty for early withdraw. Had I still had the fund by age 65 I would had been able to retire very comfortably. If all was fine in my life I would had been a fool to withdraw. So, I say that profit was what motivated me to stay with it when my life was going great. Bill, I honstly do not know what decent money is anymore. There are times when I am just as happy now than when I cleared $50,000 back in the late 80's and early 90's. I am supposing that it depends on your situation or on what you deem to be of the most importance. How is it that people who live in the Himalayans can be content with what they have when a person who lives in the lap of luxuary is not content unless they have more of what they already have? I guess decent money is only a matter of perspective and no real conclsion can be arrived to. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
