I believe it was an attempt to search personal property withouut reasonable cause. Once the transaction of full payment has been made the goods purchased becomes the sole property of the person making the payment. If a store asked to pat you down would you allow that? I see it as the same as asking to inspect my purchase for stolen property. I know the law in the state inwhich I live and now I know a lot more about the law in Ohio after reading the codes. I suggest that you do the same. How is it his obligation to seek out the stores policy towards unwarranted search? Do you walk into a store and immediatly ask for their policies? Why would they need to see his receipt? They apparantly didn't witness anything otherwise he would had been arrested for shoplifting. And only his rights were violated. If they want to enforce any type of policy then they need inform shoppers before shoppers enter their store. It is not my job to search out their policy. If I am not stealing and they have no proof that I did, well, they can just go suck themselves.
