One is a 3500 square footer and the other is 7800 square feet. Weight is 40 and 50 lbs "I think". Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Well if your gonna use those items, rig it as a "Poor man" and be prepared for no one to see it much. The Velo is really not a good Flag flying canopy and a 5x5 is small till your real low. Look at a 250+ canopy and a 1100 foot + Flag. For the crowd to see it. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Researching PIA members - WAS Argus Investigation - San Marcos
matthewcline replied to Ahuey's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just a slight correction: PIA has not banned anything. Some (but not all) harness/container manufacturers do not allow Argus AADs in their rigs; some (but not all) national skydiving organizations do not allow Argus AADs. But PIA has not banned anything. Mark So, suing them for "banning" some thing, would be pointless, as they banned, nothing. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

Another D License / Night Jump / Tandem Question
matthewcline replied to MBiegs's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Incorrect as per the USPA SIM 6-4 A 4 and 5 http://www.uspa.org/SIM/Read/Section6/tabid/169/Default.aspx#979 Sunset is Sunset. One hour after is for records. And in another BSR ALL Student jumps are to be done by Sunset. Matt To clarify a Jump after sunset is a night jump for the log book, but the SIM states for it to be a License Requirement or record it needs to be conducted one hour after Sunset and done prior to one hour before sunrise. So in theory one could have a hundred night jumps before making one for their license "Properly". Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
As well as read an alti and pull. They are little help with landing though, all that waving around at the crowd and such. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Do you suggest that AiraCom sue the British Parachute Association, the Australian Parachute Association, the Dutch Parachute Association, the New Zealand Parachute Industry Association, the Aeroservizi Reggio Emilia SRl, the MINI STEERSTWO INFRASTRUKTURY,and Paulo Moreira da Silva of Portugal? Sparky No I don't suggest that, but the PIA seemed to be the driving force behind everyone banning them, especially with some PIA members having a vested interest in other AAD's. Definately something underhanded happening here with the PIA sitting on top of it all, hence why sue the PIA. I thought PIA was one of the LAST to jump on the banning band wagon. If that is true, then the law suit is with out merit. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

What type of canopy are you going to fly under? How large a flag do you want to fly? How many practice jumps are you planning? How big is the landing area? Do you want to rent a full set up and get training with it? Can you afford travel to train? Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

No, it is now sad, as Jo's post below pretty much attests to. I thought Caretaker was just being funny. Sadly, I was mistaken. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

I'd bet my next paycheck that he's not talking about Bram. Yeah, that was cleared up a few days ago. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

No. it starts with the individual Skydiver (the YOU's). Set a good example. Speak up when you see some one endangering them self or others. Enlist, you and their, friends to help if they don't listen. Take your concern to the Staff. Take your concern to the DZO. Then if all else fails take it to an Independent S&TA or your RD. Don't be a defeatist. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Cypres2 cutter broken, any rigger feedback?

It would appear that in this case the AAD might not function normally if damaged, but if the reserve rip cord is pulled the reserve container should still function normally. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

To be fare, they asked for pics to make their page so I am sure it is possible that the pics used where licensed to them, to say they where stolen may have been a bit harsh. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

Canopy choice for Demonstrations and flag jumps.
matthewcline replied to jmpnjunky's topic in Gear and Rigging
Another pearl of wisdom from an old demo jumper...remember to size your reserve purchase with the thoughts of the extra weight you 'may' be carrying as well as the need to land someplace with very marginal outs. Very GOOD advice! Having a Star Trak 290 then chopping to a 150-r is gonna really change the wing loading if you 30lbs of accoutrements on! Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. Sorry, but this seems funny to me. After all the complaining about skyride stealing photo's for their web pages, now a DZ steal photo's from skyride. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
Your DZ may be the exception to the "Norm". Most S&TA's are DZO's or Staff of the DZ. Few are allowed to swing the Ax with out the DZO's permission. At one DZ, I have been lucky to be allowed to make safety decisions and have them backed by the DZM and DZO. They even asked me to be the "Hard Ass". At other DZ's I am allowed some "authority" but the DZO still has the final call. At other DZ's yet, I am just asked to be quiet and sign stuff. The DZO makes the final call as it is their business. Most tend to be safe and profitable. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

skydiverjersey.com - Is it real???
matthewcline replied to base729's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The web page shows pictures of staff who work for a TN dz as well as pictures of a NJ location. By the pictures, t looks like it is part of the Sportations/Skyride group. But they do list a location and facilities, so maybe they have a new DZ or Partner. If in doubt, go some where else. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
