You would put wing suits out before high opening AFFs and Tandems and have them converge at opening? What am I missing here? Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

You would then need to make sure no one takes off after Official sunset, so as not to potentially land in the dark, like we already "do" for Students! Doing a night jump in a controlled environment gives you the experience for the times when you do push the envelope and find it darker than you thought it would be. To now not do them, and not teach our newer generation, is a failure on us the older Generation and us the Instructional members of Skydiving around the world. Failure to hook up all 4 points on a tandem
matthewcline replied to ocd11's topic in Tandem Skydiving
Super, that's why I said from boaring to altitude, not wheels up to altitude. If you add in 1 or 2 min for loading, taxi and take off, plus another 1 min on jump run while others exit, you're in the plane with your student for 10 min. If you're that pressed for space, hook up your lowers once the student slides back to you on the bench. You'll never have more room than that to hook up, so take advantage of it. If it's tight in the back for snugging the side straps, work together with the TI/jumper next to you. Have them lean over and get tight to the wall while you use the extra space to snug up your side straps. Then you hug the wall while they do their thing. There is no excuse or reason not to be fully hooked up and tightened before a non-emergency exit. Dave, I disagree with this, each person should be on their own seat belt and free of others till 1500'+ AGL, if there is a crash and the T-I is not able to release the Student then they both may perish in a fire. Airport access fight making the news!!!!

Yet all because we are an uncaring and cheap lot, we still patronize these places. WE so not stand for safety, WE need to or end up losing the sport as a whole. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

I still think your thread title is misleading, and possibly factually incorrect. But you are using press pieces that are 100~ years old If Pete (from Germany) is back say "Hi" for me! Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
If it's a congressional meeting, how can it be considered public if it's not something that hits C-SPAN? my example was that it was on C-SPAN so its public. yours is not so it isnt. its mute because after doing some reading it turns out they can trade on anything. the reason behind this is" congressional lawmakers have no corporate responsibilities and have long been considered exempt from insider trading laws" i'm willing to bet that personal ethics have kept people in the past from trading during these situations. our current congress does not have the same ethical motivations. probably time to change the laws. my 2 cents The News show was specific, closed Congressional meetings and then the Members of Congress acting on that info-very much insider trading. The story also went on to detail how they are exempt from the laws and went further to tell how one or two had tried to get the law repealed but only had maybe 6 co-sponsors, none of the Co-Sponsors are any of the Big Congress Crooks. But an Upside to this is, it has Pelosi NOW supporting the Stock Act (the law to make Congress follow the same rules on this we do). And has others saying they "might" once they learn more. Just so I understand, a 1905 Convention of 200 people, reported to be from three different ideologies (so maybe 66 anarchists + or -?) , means your link to a 1912 article and thread title is correct? Kudo's. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

-Mayor Mike Bloomberg http://pastebin.com/CUm9zc6z A good way to get community service sentences served would be to have these lawnshitters clean up and scrub every last inch of Zucotti Park. That release states "Owners" can you explain if it is a Privately held park "open" to the City or a City Owned Park? and what does that mean in regards to property rights trespassing etc? If you read is subsequent posts, they didn't just use the toilets (they had no right too) beyond capacity, they also used the floor of a entry way. The actions of the OWS movement is harming its support. It had an idea- a good cause, but lacked direction and civility, and now is losing support as it is costing millions of dollars we don't have to protect the citizens and clean up after the Protesters. Defending that sort of action is even beneath you. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

What are the federal laws governing those? I may disagree. You must have missed where I said the same thing, try re-reading. Oddly the rules you are arguing over are there to protect all: From the new-uninformed-inexperienced-student-jumper, or the slightly-informed-knows it all-has "madd skillz"-you're trying to hold me back-barely licensed-jumper, and the - been here and there done that-held all the ratings-jumped rounds and squares-warts-loops and ropes-has the bumps and bruises to show he has the knowledge and experience to speak-cares about the individual and sport-old jumper. But, hey, Your right to kill your self and the sport, trumps all. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

NON Skydivers doing Tandem Demos?
matthewcline replied to Driver1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not true. For the second time in two days I've seen tandem videos posted where the video guy pops up and films the opening from above. As a T-I, my preference is for the Videoagrapher to transition to a back or sit fly and just look up and watch the opening. Then roll over and track a few seconds and open. This puts the Videoagrapher out in front of me, usually, easier for me to find and then avoid or follow to landing. I open at the dictated 5500' AGL in the 19 Commandments, set forth by the Three US Manufacturers. If they can not do the back or sit fly, I have a second preference of them just backing away at the wave off, once they are no longer able to hold me and the Student in frame during our opening, turn and track so as to fall into the position I stated above. To those who have said I am setting a bad example, it is Your Opinion, OK, I get it. If the BOD has an Issue or Bill Booth then I will hand over my Ratings, too easy, all Bill or Jay has to do is ask. I do not expect that they will even mention it though. We have new T-I/E's who can't even do the proper EP's when facing a Malfunction, getting lucky rarely works more than once, We almost read about another double fatality a few weeks ago. Let us focus on this type of "training" and "education"-doing it right and to the proper standard, canopy control is our #1 Killer and yet we still have Newbies who say it is their "right" to risk their limbs, lives and Our sport. I am thinking they aren't such "fast learners" and the "Madd Skillz" aren't there, they are just "mad". Hey, who put this soap box under me? Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. I'm still trying how to get my Spike Jones 78's to work in my Walkman...anybody can see they are way to big to squish into an iPod! Funny you should mention that. I do a morning radio show in Houston and we honor the Hawaiian culture every Friday with "Hawaiian Shirt Fridays". And of course we have to have a theme song.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQOXrMA4K0E (cut into about 1:06 to hear the edit we play) You'd be amazed how many people write and call to ask where they can get a copy!! NON Skydivers doing Tandem Demos?

Not true. For the second time in two days I've seen tandem videos posted where the video guy pops up and films the opening from above. Am I the only one who remembers this - http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1716520;search_string=tandem%20collision%20jason;#1716520 ? This video was 'Team Fastrax', who claim to be 'professional' and 'the best', meanwhile their video guys are pulling dumb shit like this on high-profile jumps. If you look at the thread, the incident I'm referring to happened right down the road from Start Skydiving, Fastrax's home DZ. It was a miracle the student and camera flyer wasn't killed in the '05 incident, do people really expect another miracle? There are so many other ways to film an opening, why do people insist on repeating mistakes that we know can lead to a fatality. It's just fucking dumb. That was the first thing I noticed as well. Matt, care to chime in here? Do you do a lot of tandems where the cameraflyer videos the opening from above? Are you OK with that? I am the T-I that exits in front of the Pair in freefall (2nd of 3). But, I have jumped with that Videoagrapher numerous times and do believe he backs away with plenty of room for the opening, I think part of the "Closeness" is his lens set up, but as that is not my specialty I will not "swear" to it. I understand your concerns, and have forwarded this thought to him, to be sure. If I was wrong in where I made the Jump I will take the heat for it. I am honored to have made the Jump with the Two Vets who Big Kenny brought out that day (My Student and I have a combined 44 Years of Service, the other pair, aside from the Student being a licensed Skydiver and Double Amputee, have over 30 years of combined Service). To the best of my knowledge we were in compliance and had all the proper permission to do the jump, -1's, USPA BOD etc. But, to be upfront, I did not check over ALL the paper work I did look over some of it and take the word of two people who I respect and have no reason to doubt. USPA to forbid its board members from committing blatant FAR violations by jumping at drop zones where seat belts aren't even used.*** What about this Gary? When can we expect to see some action on this? Not the first time this has happened with sitting BOD members supporting well known "outlaw" dzo's. Sends a nice message to those members who blindly support those cats. +2 Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
