This isn't a SYG law issue, it is the Prosecutor and Judge misapplying a SYG law in to a drug deal gone bad shooting (and if drugs were not illegal maybe no shooting, and no point in the debate, but alas). It is far harder to "un-train us" than to train us. It becomes instinctive, it becomes the air you breath. Plus it is so much simpler to understand and lacks the drama, like GQ mentioned. Thus, A was "Alpha", B was "Baker", C was "Charlie", etc. using the phonetic alphabet. The paratroopers would NEVER have been using a heavy water cooled machine gun such as the one in the picture. In fact, everything in those first two pictures could have been in use prior to World War 1. Yep, just like any one watching Band Of Brothers knows Airborne Training in the 40's was an all inclusive course, to include weapons and hand to hand training, as well as Parachute Packing and rigging. I believe it was around 1952 it became the 3 week course it is still today, and was run at Bragg and Campbell with the 82nd and 101st providing the cadre. BUT, The WWI Helmets and the Water Cooled .30 cal might have been in some Basic Training units at the time of WWII draftees training though.
