In many states (not California), I can sell you a gun directly and there is no requirement to run a NICS type check or for you to pay any fees associated with this. If I want to get a table at a gun show in one of these states and sell, I can. If a dealer (FFL) gets a table at this show and sells, he has to run the NICS check on the buyer. This had lead to the claim that there is a "loophole." It's not a meaningful one in the matter of where criminals are getting their guns, though. Nor is it for these sort of killers. Ah, that makes more sense to me now. Seems having the check system in place would eliminate potential illegal sales fro mus Private none licensed folks at least, seems reasonable. No, gun shows are not licensed dealers. Gun shows are organizations that offer up space for dealers and others to sell objects. Think of it as a flea market. The flea market is not the one selling you the velvet painting of the dogs playing poker, they only gather people with the paintings and try to attract people like you to show up and look around. Dealers are required to process every firearms sale through the NICS system (or similar). What people are calling a 'loophole' is that I can sell you a gun without a background check (In most States). One of the major issues is that there is no way that I can run a NICS check on you... I would have to be a licensed dealer to use the NICS system. Excuse me for not understanding this, but it seems to conflict. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. Hypothetically this idea went to a local producer who works for a large network, the producer took the print outs and proposal and went to the local FBI office and the SA said it is a "fun story" and watch out for "the nut job conspiracy guys, they will ruin the show". Gun shows aren't licensed sellers? Seems and easy fix, the local shops sponsor the gun show. Show up with the approval form to make a purchase, or no sale. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

The NRA has consistently opposed quite reasonable measures (such as closing the gun show loophole) while all the time giving lip service to keeping guns away from felons. What IS the gun show loophole? Something that Iowa has been smart enough to close but 33 states haven't. www2.timesdispatch.com/news/virginia-politics/2012/jun/27/tdmet02-law-enforcement-officials-back-closing-the-ar-2015984/ abcnews.go.com/WN/gun-show-loophole-closed/story?id=10404727#.UA2CFbSe4bw I can see no reason for the Gun Show sponsor not to have a back ground check system in place for the venue. It can be policy that to make a purchase go to the back ground check booth and bring back the approval. Matt there are two major hold ups to fixing what is called the loophole 1 the NICS system runs on a small staff on weekends. Weekends are when most gun shows are held. Those wanting to fix the loopholes do not want to fix the NICS issue 2 those wanting to fix the loopholes also want something added to the law that holds the show sponsors liable for any crime commited that can shown to be sold at the gun show they sponsored. Kind of like bloominburg wanting to hold gun manufactures liable for crimes commited with thier guns. Again, the banners do now want to fix these because their ultimate goal is to end something THEY do not like, which is gunshows Aren't most guns purchased on weekends? Of adding a terminal at the show is an issue then have the potential buyers go to the local Gun Shop during the week and bring in the approval form. Shops make a few bucks, no real excess on the system (they may feel a few last minute bumps on Friday's sure), checks done on a portion of weapons sold to help eliminate illegal purchases, every one keeps their Rights intact. whatcha talkin bout willis??? I am just disagreeing with NWflyer and pointing out her lack of reasonable thinking because it is so fun to disagree with somebody who will no matter what you say disagree with you. If you are going to go against NWflyer on "reasonable thinking" I'll take NWflyer and give you 10 points. Sparky I will join ya on that bet! Beer Gray Goose and popcorn? Matt FIFY Sparky Seems reasonable. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Fair enough, but it's nuts to argue about that in this thread unless somebody is suggesting this was all some sort of conspiracy set up to take guns away. Let's get real. Will the event be used as an argument that maybe some people shouldn't have access to guns? Certainly. Does that effort have anything to do with a systematic disarming of the citizenry so they can't rise up and over throw it? Gimme a fuckin' break. On the First point Agree, I don't think it is a "false flag operation" but wow! the net is heating up with that idea! To your second point, yes, but how do we limit those who are a "danger", with out limiting those who "aren't"? Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

Perhaps prior to the Civil War, but after the Secret Service was formed it would become harder and harder with each bit of foolishness by nut jobs and the subsequent watching up of Presidential security. I seriously doubt it's been much of a concern of any President since the mid-60s. They'll always have to worry about "lone wolf" nut cases, but I give an armed insurrection of the US government exactly zero chance of being carried out today. I took his pondering to mean, did a POTUS not over reach his powers for fear of the masses being able to exercise their 2nd Amendment Rights. And you can take mine as, "maybe then, but certainly not now." And the "Why" of "not now", seems to scare a few, lending to the larger contingent of internet tough talk, radical rants, and the rise firearms ownership. Reasonable measures are hard to argue against, some will, fearing it is the first step on the slippery slope to a completely disarmed society, then subjugated to the GOV. This thread isn't all about your post, Matt. Correct, but your direct reply to me was. I am trying to keep my posts context properly represented. If you just happened to respond to me thinking the "Governor" was Romney, I apologize for allowing that to be assumed. If your reply was because i mentioned the two Presidential Candidates and how they BOTH called for morning and time to heal as well as to allow the LEA's to do their jobs, you should have addressed Presidents stance as well. Other wise your posts just look like opportunistic thread highjacks (Ironic, I know, based on this little side ways chat). Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. True. I could, but I don't blame the movie industry for this at all. I never said that I thought that the NRA is FOR gun violence. (Although I do think that many NRA members are convinced that the Constitution gives them the right to use the threat of gun violence against the government in the event that the government passes/enforces laws they disagree with.) I do believe that the NRA is mainly interested in putting as much weaponry and ammo in the hands of every American citizen with little or no regulation. They are a clear threat to our constitutional form of government because of the insurrectionist propaganda that they use to to undermine efforts to regulate firearms. What NRA produced material are you reading? I must say I have never heard them called a threat to our "Constitutional form of Government" before, that is a new one, to me. Maybe, it is just how one reads things and interprets those same things, based on their Ideology. Matt Clearly, you haven't been doing enough reading. Would you kindly provide a link to the material asked about that you're getting your information from? Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

Here's what we DO know: 1. Holmes purchased all of the guns, ammo, and equipment he needed legally. 2. There's no government database that would have alerted law enforcement about what he might have been up to. 3. Nobody in law enforcement ever questioned him about why he needed to purchase 100 round magazines. 4. Holmes had no problem transporting his arsenal without government interference. You can thank the NRA for this situation. They so are feared by every politician in the U.S. that none of them will even think about proposing legislation that would at least help law enforcement to detect such purchases in the future. No, you can blame one crazy person. You can not legislate us into the world you want to live in. It will never happen. If it were possible to legislate something to the point that you couldn't put your hands on it there would be no drugs available in this country right now. I'm not a drug user but I could bet you $100 I could leave the house now and be back in an hour with at least 3 different types of illegal drugs. This has absolutely nothing to do with the drug war. I think it's a matter of time before the tide turns and assault weapons will be banned. We're not going to give up. The drug war is an utter waste of LEO and Funds, just like an all out ban would be, in the end those with no regard for law will still find the way to break it. The NRA did not create the Aurora Incident, but they do make a good scape goat, since addressing the individual, and his mental state and criminal motivation, would be anti PC. Matt This issue has nothing to do with the War On Drugs. The NRA is an accomplice to this crime, and must be held to account. I disagree, he should be held accountable as the Individual who committed the crime. But for giggles lets use your logic. The NRA passed no laws and enable no one, now the Politicians did, lets line them up. His Mom is quoted as knowing in her gut the PD arrested the right guy, add her. A school mate was quoted today of having seen a change in him, add him as well. See how silly all that sounds? Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
