  1. If someone threw something at me with the intent of hitting me... I would consider that violent.
  2. I'm just .... saddened by what seems to me to be a hypocritical stance by many. Violence is bad. Bush is bad. But... violence against Bush is ok?
  3. Look at the second post....... "LMAO" And the justification of "but it also wasn't 'attempted violence.'"
  4. If Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Kamel al-Maliki were to come to the US for this signing of the agreement, and a (lets play on the stereotypes here) FOX reporter throws something at the PM here. How funny would that be?
  5. Why is this "funny"? Because you don't like the White House policies, it's ok to laugh at this situation of attempted violence? OK... so you justify it because it was a shoe. Or the "insult" of the sole of the shoe is amusing. Let's reverse this. If Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Kamel al-Maliki were to come to the US for this signing of the agreement, and a (lets play on the stereotypes here) FOX reporter throws something at the PM here. How funny would that be? I've said it before, encouraging violence is bad.
  6. Is she breaking any laws? No. Is she hurting anyone? No. (I'm not including all the psychological "damage" caused to those that are scared of guns) In my opinion, all ya'all that are whining about her having different views/opinions from you. Back off - quit insulting her intelligence and character. Quit inferring that she must be crazy - "see how paaranoid she is?!" It's her right. Just as it's your right not to carry or even to have nothing to do with her. Lets look at some of the arguments that could be raised against her carrying. Some "bad guy" could show up at the soccer game and use her pistol. OK... seriously?! Some "bad guy" is going to plan some evil plan and HOPE that someone will be there with a gun for him to use?! Lets throw that argument out. OK... lets say that it isn't premeditated. Some situation arises with angry words and Random Joe that wasn't PLANNING on killing anyone, now sees her gun decides to use it. Again... seriously? I'm expecting with her level of awareness (or what others might call paranoia) that once the situation starts heating up, she's likely to be out of there ... cuz her main concern is safety. But... even if she doesn't pick up on the situation, Random Joe comes over after a private dispute. Sees the gun and decides to rampage. First he has to get it away from her. Easy you say? Do you think she would WILLINGLY just hand it over? I'm guessing that he's in for a fight. And likely a big one. Drawing more and more attention to her and him. During that time... here's an option. GET AWAY. Don't be standing there wringing your hands about the "unfairness" of it all. And if just seeing the gun would motivate him to steal it and use it to kill, why couldn't he just run his car into whom ever he was arguing with? Wouldn't that be easier? Her "going crazy" and shooting you or your family? That's always a possibility... but cops can go rouge too, however most people don't have a problem with them walking around armed (here in the US). Or what about crazy people at all the Christmas tree places with chainsaws? Or (since this is a skydiving site)... what about those "crazy" swoopers that could go over the top and could take out spectators or other jumpers? You NEVER KNOW what others are going to do. But USUALLY those that are trained and open about issues like this are generally less of a risk. I found out quick while doing my psych rotation that it's not the LOUD and VISIBLE ones that you have to worry about.... Watch out for the quiet one. The ones that are just sitting there and watching and planning... but no one knows until..... "he was such a nice boy." She's not breaking any laws. She's not hurting anyone. Why do some feel it necessary to try to bring her down?
  7. Give a call to Bill Davison at TacPro or even call Marty (my husband) at Badger Ordnance and ask either about the whys and wherefores of the different options. Call and chat with those at H-S Precision or Dakota or visit up there in Rapid City (it's WORTH the trip to spend some time in the hills) There are LOTS of options out there!!! Maybe just get one of each.
  8. There are many LONG threads on this topic. Some might say it's a "Ford" v. "BMW" thing... But there truly are some benefits to the AI System. The reciever is glued to the stock, not bedded which allows for more consistent fit. Most of the accuracy of a long range weapon comes from the barrel. AI's use either Border barrels or an Australian barrel (name escapes right now) - both are excellent choices. (a good US choice would be Mike Rock in Wisconsin, but sometimes his barrels are harder to get) Cut barrels are better than button, broach and hammer foraged barrels... because that technique induces less stress in the barrel. The system has interchangable parts that prolong the live of the firearm by allowing replacement of parts that wear without being a highly trained armour. (They also LOOK kinda sexy!) -Part of the other issue is the exchange rate right now, which is "improving" - by US prespectives. (1 Pound = 1.4 Dollars) The Sako TRG is also a good option and even just cheap lil Remingtons do a good job
  9. The only company that makes a "LH" AR-15 is Stag Arms. That's not quite true.
  10. Yup. Had what sounds to be similiar to yours when I was back in high school or college timeframe ("walking pneumonia" - Mycoplasma pneumonia) SUCKED! Made studying very challenging. Took about a month to start feeling better. Sorry to hear.
  11. Accuracy International, An over-priced bolt-action tactical rifle from the UK. They run anywhere from $4500-6000 w/o optics. Everytbody just goes nuts over the cool looking stock. Tactical rifles from Sako, H-S Precision and Dakota Arms are just as accurate at half the cost. No. I disagree. The AI is more expensive, granted. But you do get something for that cost besides an "over-priced bolt action" and a "cool looking stock." If you don't have the funds for that though, there are less expensive alternatives - as you mentioned. But if I had to choose between a Longbow from Dakota and building up a system from an M2008 from Badger, I would absolutely chose the M2008.
  12. Buy a ring, allow others to kiss it.... and make offers that can't be refused. - honestly though... yeah, you have to promise to help raise the child in a "good christian" way.
  13. I would say "hi" to her and treat her as I would treat anyone ... no special treats cuz she's "famous" but I wouldn't be catty or ostracize her either. Unless she did something mean or vicious. Then I'd politely smile, nod and then walk away. (or would that be considered "leaving in a huff"? ) -but.... if she really did something horrid, she weighs ... 100lbs?... I could easily take her. Bring on the jello fights.
  14. +1 Could Walmart have made it safer? Hell yes. Black Friday is dangerous. Don't open. Don't sell stuff. Don't listen to the whining from the consumers.... but then they wouldn't make much money. And then we would have to organize a bailout of for Walmart.... (ok... maybe not that extreme) Or the people could have realized that others were hurt (and/or DEAD) and been respectful. But... don't let that interfere with getting that video game for $10 less.
  15. Does correlation imply causation? Or are you linking unrelated variables and using those to advance a personal belief of your own.
  16. That would be "Y" and "Y" again. You mean the genetically deficient lil piece of a chromosome?
  17. A lot of it also has do with knowing the people. There are some exams that you would prefer not to KNOW the person doing it or others knowing that you have them done. It's still a privacy issue for me.
  18. What I think they're BOTH trying to say is that parents should spend more time teaching their children... PARENTS should. Not schools. And one of the lessons that should be included is firearm safety. - but inactive parenting is a whole different topic.
  19. If it were paper, I could personally control it. (since I'm in the practice) But if I were just a general patient, it would likely be just as easy ... although... since most of us can access the files from home... I would still guess that it's easier with the digital format instead of having to have the paper chart hunted down and pulled.
  20. It's about the technology, the process of privacy and who has the keys to the kingdom. Please don't tell me that you believe PM's really are. What's a PM? Is that medical record jargon I'm not familiar with? I think he's referring to private messages as not being so private
  21. Accuracy International.
  22. Don't be sorry, there's nothing wrong with anything you wrote. I, however, am not willing to be as open as you are. I don't want those that I work with to know how many partners I've had or if I've had prior STD's (none of their business). I don't want a diagnosis of depression to limit my prescribing privileges or a past history of smoking (or even worse yet - a FAMILY HISTORY of smoking and lung cancer) to limit future life insurance/disability insurance amounts. I don't want "the system" to have my informations "stored" and Skyrad, I know it's your business... but it is kind of scary what can be done with all that personal information. Mostly... I believe that people are good and I believe that the info would be just stored until needed for a necessary purpose. The research value would be amazing. But the outliers from the normals would become "interesting" and then the focus could turn from "society" to "individual." And that's where things can go wrong. The purposes are nice... the practices might not be.
  23. And there are other reasons to own firearms other than as the "tool of death" There is a big collection of those that enjoy competition shooting. It's quite challenging to sit behind the 1000yd line and try to control your breathing and dial the rounds nicely to the X. There are many that find the mechanics of them to be very intriguing. As some find old style clock fascinating. Others are amazed by the mechanism of the Gatling Gun Others yet just like the collection - why do some people have hundred of beanie babies? I have no clue... but they bring them happiness. Others like collecting something that might at some point be a useful tool. Dakota Arms has BEAUTIFUL firearms! Why would that be any less desirable than a beanie baby?! And of course there's the "tool of death" reason that those that don't respect the above reasons always claim is the ONLY reason for wanting a gun.
  24. The answer to that riddle is to ask either one which door the other would tell you to take ... then take the other one.
