Don't drink ALL of it. Maybe one of these times when I come down, we'll actually tag up.... and if all the rum is gone!!! That would mean no rum runners for you. Why is all the rum gone?

Will the US Regain Respect in World Opinion Again
kbordson replied to Amazon's topic in Speakers Corner
I also wonder about a post you recently had in Bonfire about hoping to live in the UK in the near future? I'm confused. I thought that with President Obama now being elected that this will become a country of Hope and Change.... Why are you running from that? -
Will the US Regain Respect in World Opinion Again
kbordson replied to Amazon's topic in Speakers Corner
OK. and how many people come over here with the same attitudes? I agree that some American tourist are ... a bit ignorant. But so are some Germans and some Brits and some Australians and some (do I have to name EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY that exists?!) PEOPLE can be a bit ignorant. To claim that Americans are the only "ugly" people out there.... I do believe that one NON-American (a UK type) recently referred to many as ***gun crazy bible bashing homophobic racist country music loving anti abortion supporting booze swilling hicks[/url] -
Will the US Regain Respect in World Opinion Again
kbordson replied to Amazon's topic in Speakers Corner
Oh, you'd be in plenty of company. But that would be the equivalent of advocating the xenophobia and isolationism that has been popular in the US since the early 20th Century, but which history has shown to be more of a losing strategy than a winning one. So tell me. We are chastised for interfering with other countries business and politics. We become the evil empire when we send people, weapons and money. You want us to stop... but don't be isolationist.... keep sending the money. Right? Bottom line. I think we need to fix things here at home first. IF we have extra left over after paying our debts, then WE decide who gets to have our charity. But that is a big IF we have any left over. Is that being an isolationist? OK. -
Actually this year it was in Florida. And I was wearing a pink tank top and jeans.... but I chose not to really work in the booth this year.

I read that as SD (South Dakota) peep wind chill?!!! Probably not quite what you meant, but it is DAMN cold up there!

Will the US Regain Respect in World Opinion Again
kbordson replied to Amazon's topic in Speakers Corner
I think this is a foolish poll. Those who had "lost respect" for the US have little bearing on my daily life. and if just changing the President gets the rest of the world all hot and sticky?! I seriously don't have too much caring who the PM of the UK is nor did I truly care if Saddam was in charge of Iraq.... I do like to have the ability to visit other countries and do medical missions.... but if some country doesn't WANT me to bring my supplies and knowledge to help then cuz they have politics issues, thats is their problem. Getting down to basics. Life and death is a bit more important than politics - Those that know ME. I respect their opinions. Some random half a world away.... why do I have to worry about "regaining respect." I guess a better question/poll might be Will US POLITICIANS Regain Respect in World Opinion? And to that I would ask - will they regain respect here at home first? -
Personally I think it's an exciting field and there is so much to learn about who/why we are as we are.... but I also want to temper that enthusiasm with respect for life. I don't want to encourage science at the cost of morality. The studies from some of the concentration camps in WWII were NOT ethical. I don't know when "life" begins. My personal belief is that the collection of cells is not life.... but I might be wrong. I am VERY excited about using somatic cells for research and hope that more funding goes toward evaluation of those applications.

What do you do when you realize your life is completely fucked?
kbordson replied to iluvtofly's topic in The Bonfire
This sentence got my attention. What does "successful" mean to you? Why are they successful? Why aren't you? So they might be making better money, but I would HIGHLY caution you against using money as your mark of "success." Instead use happiness with yourself as the term of "success." Right now, I understand you're not happy with the result of the exam. And the plans that you had for a career aren't working out as they were "supposed to." But take some time to look at YOU. As a PERSON. As mentioned above, reframe this situation. Maybe there's something bigger for you out there. edit to add: and quit comparing yourself to others!! My dad once told me "there will always be someone better and always be someone worse off; just be yourself and let them be theirs" -
Had a Kirby. It was nice, did a good job. BUT HEAVY AS A MACK TRUCK! Also thought about a Rainbow... again an excellent vacuum system but heavy too. (ended up with a light little Eureka that is a lot nicer for lugging up and down stairs)

I'm up for trying all kinds of dance!! (just having a hard time not just wanting to kick back, close my eyes and get into the pain of blues... as opposed to dancing to it)
-
BLUES!! Blues are not for dancing to. Blues are not about making you feel better. It's about making everybody else feel as bad as you. (but your teachers do look graceful there) Banesanura - you forgot Square Dancing, Round Dancing and Clogging.
-
Same here. Marty tends to use Hardigg cases - most durable, best latches. I like Pelican - especially since they re-designed the latches so that it won't tear up your fingers any more. Starlite works as well It was announced at SHOT that Pelican bought Hardigg.

Maybe if we ever met in person, I would get a different impression of how right or wrong I "got you." But with just knowing you by what you posted above.... so willing to demonize and label so callously. People talk about Americans being "ugly".... I honestly feel that "gun crazy bible bashing homophobic racist country music loving anti abortion supporting booze swilling hicks" is far more "ugly" than any poorly cultured American tourist ever was to you. But... maybe I am wrong.
-
Nice stereotyping, you seem to have covered all the bullshit talking points of the extreme left. - I'm sure you'll fit in well here. Have some more koolaid. I was kinda thinking the same thing. Nice "open minded" bloke willing to divide all yanks into just two categories: the "septic" category that is quite evil sounding and then those that completely agreed with him on his assumptions. Sounds fair and logical. But let me just sift through the "gun crazy bible bashing homophobic racist country music loving anti abortion supporting booze swilling hicks" gun crazy - yes... I have a few. Probably more than enough to scare the living bejeebers out of you, dmkellett. Bible bashing - ok, this one could go either as a yes or a no.... does recovering Catholic count? I went to a private Catholic grade school. Bashing homophobic - WAY OFF BASE HERE. My best friend has "alternative" preferences. I just want him to love and be loved - regardless of with whom. Racist - nope. My nurse is black or African American or whatever political term is proper. I just know her as Latisha... not by the color of her skin. Country Music loving - Hell yeah. (MUCH better than rap) Anti abortion supporting - I support personal choice... but personally I would NEVER support that decision for myself. Nor do I ever want to perform elective terminations. But I will refer them to someone that does not have that philosophical belief Booze swilling - RUM. nuff said. Hicks - My family could be described by some as poor white trash. But you've never met them. Even though my mom might not dress "high society", she is the sweetest person that EVER walked the Earth. I would back away from the insults before you say something too ignorant looking. and your talking points 1. STOLE the election to get in ? Nope. Been proven many times that the choice of the electoral college was Bush. Now... if you want to debate the necessity of the Electoral college - that's different. But Bush did not "steal" the election no matter how many recounts they did. 2. LEFT many of his scientific advisor positions VACANT? Where are your sources on that? He was criticized as being slow to fill positions and did not give them the power that they previously had, but how much power should an adviser truly have. Per John H Marburger, the science advisor to President Bush and director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy As US President George W Bush’s eight-year term in office comes to an end, his official science advisor John H Marburger argues that science in the US is flourishing following a decade of increased federal spending 3. HELD BACK crucial research into LIFE saving treatments into stem cells because of silly hocus pocus beliefs? Despite my personal beliefs.... there is a separation of church and state. As there is a public debate about stem cell research and life issues ... I thought it was reasonable to limit GOVERNMENT spending on that. HOWEVER... that didn't stop Mr. Thompson (et al) at the University of Wisconsin- Madison from researching about Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Lines Derived from Human Somatic Cells. In spite of not getting government monies . . . look at what they did. Where was it done again? Now granted. Japanese researchers also were able to complete that task.... and I am quite impressed with the knowledge and capabilities of both .... but your statement discounts the progress that was made. AND progress that will eliminate the debate on "stem cell research" (hopefully) 4 . Invaded another country because he wanted to be better than his DAD? SERIOUSLY.... and the Brits were there too. Was Blair just trying to be better than Bush Sr too? 5. made many of his worst decisions based upon DIVINE guidance? This just sounds silly. He might have prayed for guidance or turned to the church... but I believe that he made decisions based on advise and counsel of his cabinet. But... I wasn't in his head. I can believe that he was a logical and reasonable adult. As you can believe that he was a "religious kook" 6. Caused the USA ( a pretty good counrty I think) to be the most HATED in the world, even OUTSIDE the muslim world...... I truly don't believe the "a pretty good country, I think" comment. In this post you have shown yourself to have quite a hate on for Americans. Why you are so xenophobic (or would it be American-phobic?), I have no idea. I doubt that Bush came over and personally pissed in your Cheerios. I doubt that your personal duties or liberties were changed by our laws or beliefs. You just have a problem with the US and specifically anyone that gives any support to a man for whom you have little respect. So you then project the hate you have for Bush to how many Americans? 7. SCREWED your and consequently the whole world ECONONY? How much of the fault of the current economic situation can be placed directly on Bush? I don't know that answer. I'm sure some on here think "all" and others think "none." I don't know what part Congress had to play in signing the bailouts or who's hands were greased to pass some of the laws... but it's not all Bush's fault. And as far as the whole world economy - if I go bankrupt cuz I've been loaning my neighbor money.... it's MY fault that I went broke. Are they all tied? sure. But it's England's responsibility to look out for Her finances (I don't want to pay for your Queen... remember, we tossed you guys out on your ear for that) It's China's responsibility to look out for Her bottom line. (and they seem to be doing quite well) Anyway.... this was a long enough post and probably a waste of an hour of my time.... but sometimes this Redneck Woman can only take so much America Bashing.

I'm sure that there was discrimination when I was in but I truly didn't experience any of it personally. But I was in the medical field. I'm sure it was different in the "real military" and I'm sure there were plenty of reasons/excuses to justify it's existence, some more valid than others. I personally do not believe in discrimination - in an ideal situation there should be standards and if you can meet those, than you qualify. But obviously, this isn't an ideal world. So some advocate having quotas and reverse discrimination.... I don't believe in that either. The best qualified should get the job. REGARDLESS of the color of his or her skin or religious beliefs or. . . But you are obviously quite defensive in your opinions so to even try to discuss becomes just a pissing contest that I would rather not get involved in Ya know... this should really be a new thread on that topic.

In the GOP Animal Farm.... MANY of the PIGS always considered themselves more equal than any others. Look in the mirror. Your own statements contradict themselves. Justifying your comments by saying "they're bad" doesn't make you right.
-
Those two statements together tell me: All are equal. Some are more equal than others.

May her father have a restful passing - with respect and free of pain. May the remaining family (Nanner, You and the rest) have guidance and grace in the the time of loss.

Welcome to the club. (btw - The secret handshake and special numbers will be released to you at the Evil Empire Establishment meeting)

Nicely stated..... and so true. But even if that one person touched so many others, the sun doesn't stop rising. The world doesn't pause. The time continues on even without . . . . Four years from now, who will be remembering that person still? Will there still be flowers and tears to mark the passing or will all but a handful have "moved on." Even the most famous get forgotten.... there wasn't a thread for Elvis' Birthday last week
-
Exactly! You never know when the last time it is going to be when you see someone again. But what if you did experience the last time with someone? Now what? I think your thoughts change a little bit. I personally cant wait to see them again on the other side. Maybe that is why I think life is too long. I cant wait to see my husband again. I guess it begs the question, do we think life is too long after you lose someone so short in life? Kind of a catch 22. And, if you thought life was too short and you make sure you live it too the fullest, once you lose the person who you mostly lived your life with, do your thoughts change? *sigh* I don't have an answer for you on this one. It's both too short and TOO DAMN LONG! I can sympathize with your frustration.... but won't be so arrogant to say "I understand." You miss him. Period. I could tell you the token comments like "enjoy the sunsets that he's been denied." and "he wants you to be happy." But... that really doesn't change the sense of loss and the urgency to want to be with him again. But PLEASE... don't do anything rash. Try to understand life a bit better... (you'll never figure it out... but why not take this time to try) If you ever need to talk and just don't want others to think that you're crazy... use my number (see pm). You don't really know me... no judgments.... and this can be tomorrow or years from now.

Love. An intimate caring for the being that you cherish - knowing the faults and still respecting the individual. A feeling of pride and happiness at seeing them smile. A sensation of contentment by just touching or even being near the other. Love can be seen as a neurochemical response. A chemical state in the mind that you crave. A drug. An addiction. Love can be a release. An understanding of a BIGGER picture than you ever imagined. Love can be a loss. An end of the childhood dreams of fairytale fantasies... but not wanting to shift back to being that naive.... an understanding that with the knowledge of love comes some sacrifice - a willing pain. Love can't be described. Those smarter and more eloquent than I have tried. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle: "Then must you strive to be worthy of her love. Be brave and pure, fearless to the strong and humble to the weak; and so, whether this love prosper or no, you will have fitted yourself to be honored by a maiden's love, which is, in sooth, the highest guerdon which a true knight can hope for." Shakespeare: O, how this spring of love resembleth The uncertain glory of an April day, Which now shows all the beauty of the sun, And by an by a cloud takes all away! Charles Dickens: If I may so express it, I was steeped in Dora. I was not merely over head and ears in love with her, but I was saturated through and through. Enough love might have been wrung out of me, metaphorically speaking, to drown anybody in; and yet there would have remained enough within me, and all over me, to pervade my entire existence. Pat Benatar: Love is a Battlefield

LOTS of stuff to do there!! Have fun! The Smithsonian was GREAT!
