I don't think you're misreading it. I've been concerned about how this government is changing for a while now.... not the democrats... not the republicans.... but all of them. The loss of personal freedoms under the cry of "Homeland Security." The theft of personal property with this AIG bonus issue. The "relief" of personal responsibility with the whole "the government will take care of you" mantra.

I think that is a fairly good analogy. But realize that the argument today is talking about the children of that kidnap victim demanding to be rescued - claiming that they are sitting in the same chair and that the same kidnappers are still out there. (personally... some still are, but overall the condition is NOT as it was 40 years ago)

Yeah, rereading it seems I read that wrong. Perhaps someone should take away my SC posting badge since I just admitted a mistake. I think you read it accurately, as written. Neither article said anything about a memorial, also. What do we want to remember about a robbing, raping, killing, 3+ strikes punk, other than to be happy he didn't have a kid with his wife? He may have been all that. And many might truly think "good riddance," but there is the possibility that someone is still mourning his death. Someone that maybe didn't rob, rape, kill or be a 3+ strikes punk.... someone that is grieving and in pain. That is who the memorial is truly for. Even though he might not have become everything that a mother would have dreamed for her newborn boy... she will still probably miss him. This situation is sad all around.

Better here is a very relative term. It might be "better".... but it's NOT GOOD.

WTF has that got to do with afirmative action? Nothing at all. But it's something more for that Brit to try to knock on the US for. (Of course, he doesn't realize that we ALREADY have the minimum wage here... and even started it WELL before they did AND with the Medicare/Medicaid component of health care there is a GOOD portion of coverage for those that can't afford it... but lets not confuse the topic of affirmative action with actual facts now)

In my opinion, they were still strong armed into that decision. "Give it back, or we'll take it back... ok... or we'll tax it back.... ok... or we'll turn everyone against you." Congress signed the bailout. Here's an idea: READ THE CONTRACTS BEFORE YOU SIGN THEM.

What a wonderful experience for your dad! It looks like he enjoyed it A LOT!!

Better than coming across like a moron, though. www.president-bush.com/moroncontrov.html Wow. You had to dig deep for that one. 2002? And weren't you the one that said in a different thread that you shouldn't downplay the discussion of the bonus based on the total amount because it is just a distractor... well, isn't this post here the same issue?

i'm a republican

But how legal is it to say "ok, it WAS in the contract that we did sign. So we do HAVE to honor that... BUT we can make a new law and tax it at 90% and take it back from you again." Congress signed the bailout. Maybe they should have read it first.

(btw.... thanks for translating whatever I wrote into English. I modified it a couple of times and then failed to preview and edit. But thanks for understanding the point of my post

It is not an unlikely scenario that the whole financial system would have collapsed. Not just a bank here or there. Secondly, capitalism created this mess, why would you think that capitalism would also fix it? And how much did greed and gov't interference play into the mess? Give those people loans even though they really shouldn't get one based on their credit history. Then cuz they have to, the banks give out the money. The people default on the loans (trust me... I know this happened, my sister was one of these)... and the banks can't re-coup the money lost. That's not capitalism.

While I have some level of distrust for the legal system, those officers were still four people that were someones son, husband, father... they died trying to uphold a law. Name calling and insults of the dead is .... tacky.

if nothing needed to be done we would still be living under the power of kings and own slaves Ummmm. Don't you still have a monarchy? So. Once you bounce the queen down and give all those without that tie to royalty special bonuses that the family had but they didn't, .... EVERYBODY gets million dollar weddings televised. EVERYBODY gets ponies and castles. How about complaining about the disparity in your own backyard? Kinda like the pot calling the kettle black here.

In that thread on Obama on 60min... did it REALLY say that they are going to and then said source Yeah... you're right. That's not "anger." That's punishment in an attempt to displace public attention. WHO should be ashamed?

I've had the pleasure to play at the MotorSport Ranch in Texas.... WONDERFUL time! Not just the speed but also the track. The Road Course is 3.1 miles long, is 40 feet wide, has 16 turns, off camber turns, high elevation changes, and is designed to be run either clockwise or counter-clockwise. But on my bike ride yesterday, I came to a realization. It's not the raw speed that I like. It's the power. And a PERSONAL control of the power that I like. I have been called a bit of a control freak... and to some extent it is likely true. I like managing difficult situations. Fast cars, motorcycles, skydiving, challenging medical situations... all push me. I like fighting against that push. So, yes. I like fast cars.
