But you are kbordson the pirate.....Argh!! VERY TRUE! And pirates know LOTS about sex!

The Red Queen is a nice and easy read about that topic. Disclaimer: I am not a "sexologist" - nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Wow. That is pretty creative. But, we've done some revisionist history too. I was taught to be skeptical of what is read because the books are written by the victor.

so... do green undies count?

Nice profile picture! Congratulations! I hope the pregnancy is treating her well. -
actually, you shouldn't HIRE based on someones race. As per post 35 above where I quoted and linked to the gov web site What the employer has to do is increase the work applicant pool to include a wider selection of applicants. Not hire more [insert race/sex/....] -and jeannie, Thank you so much. But please tell me SPECIFICIALLY what I am thanking you directly for so that when I give a prayer of thanksgiving tonight to my God of choice that I can give specifics. Ohh.... and having been a nurse myself, can you tell me exactly what was wrong with being a nurse? Why do you think it's better to be a doctor? I had my personal reasons for going back to school, but you seem to have a bias there. I'm just curious as to why you seem to think nurses are inferior.

Guess away, but I have. I just don't want to project those acts of ignorance of the few to a LARGE demographic. Not all white males are racist or sexist or .... And I don't WANT to "punish" the non-guilty. It's that ONE person that is problem (unfortunately there are a lot of "that ONE" people) And ... I hate to say it... but it's not entirely the fault of that one person.... Imagine a lil boy growing up and being told how great he is and how wonderful he will be. That's what parents are supposed to do - encourage confidence, instill self-pride. Sometimes that conditioning goes overboard and instead of just "you're great" it becomes "you're better than everyone else." Now Johnnie has a chip on his shoulder cuz that's what Daddy said. And then you might have another little child that doesn't receive such praise and then feels inferior to Johnnie. How much of all this can we absolutely dump on lil Johnnie? In my mind, at least 51% but not 100%.... but I just don't know the place in between. So even the "guilty" have reasons behind their attitudes. But telling people to "Be Nice" doesn't always seem to work, now does it? It never ceases to amaze me how many women of your generation forget how many of us in my generation in the 1960's and 1970's fought for that which you have benefited from. At that time our options were FAR more limited than what you have now...Try not to forget that. Thanks for renewing my faith in todays GOP mantra.... I've got mine and fuck all the rest of THOSE people. Sometimes your posts make no sense. 1. What directly did you do to open MY options that I have to try not to forget? 2. Where did I say "fuck all the rest of THOSE people"? In fact... I actually said that there was problems with the past, but I don't want to FUCK the non guilty. you are a go for the next spin.

Actually, what she said was good advice. (the only thing that I would add is DON'T USE THOSE FEMININE WASH PRODUCTS. Period.) (but... at the end, the last thing that I heard her say was "return to a sexier smelling scank." I backed it up and it truly was "sexier smelling state." )

I know... [sheepish]. And I do TRY. But, I'm only so tolerant and I gots excuses too. Just like everybody else.

how many generations did slavery last? Not relevant. So you punish future generations based on actions of past generations? Not logical.

Good points The victimization part of it cuts both ways though. The one that doesn't get the job that blames affirmative action is using it as an excuse just as much as the person that claims that they need affirmative action to get the job in the first place.
-
sure. That works too. how is affirmative action 'unfair'? racism is 'unfair'. affirmative action is only 'levelling the playing field so it is fair for all' (refer to my weapon and shield analogy). Because the hiring companies have to spend extra and broaden their pool of applicants and increase the minority standing in the application process. They don't have to spend extra or expand the pool to increase the white male category.... so that is an act that is increasing the selective advantage of the one population, but not the other. You call it "leveling the playing field." They see it as "unfair." Both can be right depending on whose view you see.
-
I completely agree with you. That is how it SHOULD be. And there really should be no NEED for affirmative action. But... we as a society say "BUT" to counter the acts of some people who might be well "educated" but yet still ignorant. Those that still think that the Native American is a "lazy Indian" or the African American is "just a ..." or ... it might get to some point that the Caucasian Male is just a "whiny ......" - oh wait, we're there too. Unfortunately people will be biased and prejudiced. You will be told that you're not good enough because of [insert reason here - you're asian, catholic, male....] Some people just have their beliefs and will not be swayed by any version of reality other than their own. That is why we have to have affirmative action. Because there are too many intelligent people that are ignorant and refuse to learn otherwise.

Note: This is an American perspective and link to a US gov't site. I'm not trying to assume that it's the same over there. Facts on Executive Order 11246 — Affirmative Action

Bwhaaaa.. I'm not whining, I'm refusing to apologise for something that I'm not responsible for and I'm also refusing to be a victim of anyone else's guilt. This is the impression that I get from most that are against affirmative action. Why should one person be discriminated against because of his race for the "payback" of actions that were not done by him? I can easily see why that would be frustrating. But how else do you change a cultural norm of discrimination against the minority? I would like to say "education" and hiring the best REGARDLESS of his/her race or sex. But as mentioned above... some people do NOT WANT to be educated. So as a society, we are saying that it is ok to discriminate against the white male for the purpose of "equality."
-
sure. That works too. How would you propose to remedy past unfair treatment? You ARE aware that, on average, women in equivalent jobs make around 80% of what men make, right? Really?! Wow! Thanks for that clue. So because of that, I am justified allowing discrimination against others? Cool. Personally - It's hard to change social discrimination. Some people do NOT want to be educated that they are not the best or the brightest. Resistance is (unfortunately) common. But the question is does two wrongs make a right?
-
sure. That works too.

here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism Instead of quoting wiki.... how about the Oxford Dictionary racism Or Merriam-Webster racism and in case you need even more help - look at definition number 2.
-
that's not what is happening with affirmative action. a simple analogy would be that racism is the 'weapon' and affirmative action is the 'shield'. The negative connontations that you place on words does not change the definition.
-
Some people do believe affirmative action to be a form of reverse discrimination. It takes into account the persons personal demographics.... not just job capability. Now... the why's of affirmative action might (to some) justify that selection based on race or sex or other demographics.... but it is still a form of discrimination. you're saying it's 'reverse discrimination' - it seems to me that you are agreeing with me that affirmative action is not racist or sexist. If some is discriminated against based on their race or sex, it is racism or sexism. What I was saying is that some believe that it's an acceptable form of racism or sexism.
-
affirmative action is neither racist nor sexist. So you ask opinions and then you say "no, you're wrong."? Some people do believe affirmative action to be a form of reverse discrimination. It takes into account the persons personal demographics.... not just job capability. Now... the why's of affirmative action might (to some) justify that selection based on race or sex or other demographics.... but it is still a form of discrimination.

All American girl? But guys ride sporties too and I know a couple of Brits with them. (and mine is technically a Nightster, not a Sporty) As far as my experience: I learned on a dual purpose Kawasaki. Easy, light, not intimidating AT ALL. Even had great fun tearing it down and then putting it all back together again. The first bike that I bought is a 2008 Nightster. I LOVE it. (and I'm considering it my "first" bike) But... what she wants or likes might be different.
