Happy Birthday!! May it be filled with WONDER and JOY!!
-
You forgot the option: Yes, didn't "love it" - but willing.
-
I guess that depends on what you deem a pregnacy worth. Is it worth 18 years of financial liability? If so - what about a lump sum payment? I am sure that you can see that it is STILL both of them that is affected and that there is no way that it can be equal. So give SOMETHING back to the fairness of it and at least give him the right to choose as well. At least open the door for litigation in the matter. Let it be decided by a jury. OR... instead of dragging lawyers into it. Let them both decide prior to gettin on with the down and dirty. RESPONSIBLE ADULT RULE: Only fuck someone that you would want to to mix your DNA with. If you don't trust her with your baby goo, don't give it to her. I know it's a hard rule to follow... [insert excuse of hormones or temptation or ....] but seriously.... if you don't know him/her, if you don't trust him/her.... DON'T BUMP UGLIES!

Profiling CEOs and Their Sociopathic Paychecks
kbordson replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
You forgot to add AND that the minimum wage should be 30k/yr.... in the US. -but... what policies and changes does he want for HIS country? -
Honestly.... How many people would want to truly know? How much of your life would it change if you KNEW absolutely that you were going to die on [insert predicted date here]? Would you still work from 9-5? Would you still worry about the finals coming up in calculus? Would you even care to bring roses back from staying out late with the guys? How many people would just say "fuck it" and become totally self focused?

Happy Birthday As a birthday gift, I wish for you times of wonderful adventure and moments of quiet peacefulness. I hope that you feel the love and support of friends from miles and continents away and those that might be at your side. May you be granted challenges to give you a fulfilling life but not too challenging to complicate the simple decisions. May you ENJOY!

Had you read my posts in this thread, you would have a pretty good idea of the answer to your questions. Hint: It has nothing to do with IT. Nice attempt at a dodge. How important are YOU to society? Who do you feed, clothe, house, teach? You claim that society is your big rally point. What do YOU do to help that.... besides pretty words? Nope. I expect those who have benefited from society to give back to society. I also expect my income to increase substantially to include me in the group that does so much paying back. My taxes last year were 53% of my income when factoring in Federal, State, SE.... NOT including sales or property tax. How much more should I give back. I paid for my education, I strive to better myself and now you tell me that I owe society more than those that have chosen not to? All you're doing is highlighting your arrogance and ignorance. But, by all means, keep it up! Nice dodge again. If you can set aside your overinflated ego long enough, try to consider the possibility that someone who studies financial and economic topics might have a better idea about such things than a doctor of medicine. You don't see me trying to explain to you how to give a Papanicolaou test, do you? I don't really think that I have an overinflated ego. If you met me, in person, I'd probably be a lot more "down to earth" than your assumption on "typical doctors." But when you start stating your OPINION as fact.... and discounting the opinions of others that have considered the same topics and just had the audacity of forming a different opinion. That's when I feel that you need to be corrected. And if you feel that you WANT to explain how to "give" a Pap smear... please include whether it's conventional or liquid based (surepath or thinprep) and include the ASCCP guidelines for doing that... and WHILE YOUR AT IT, explain why MEIDCARE only pays for a pap every 2 years instead of the annual recommended screening. It would remove one of the barriers, yes. That doesn't mean I'm not responsible enough to wait until I can remove the other barriers. THAT IS MY POINT. Well, you certainly don't have it straight. The implication is that I'm not going to jump again until I can be responsible for my potential fuck-ups, i.e. I want to have access to health care and enough disposable income to maintain a decent level of currency. Supporting universal health care doesn't mean I expect others to be responsible for me. It means that I recognize that our current health care system is broken, and private industry has failed to take the initiative to remedy the situation themselves. THAT I completely agree with. BUT... my reservation is that I DO NOT TRUST THE GOVERNMENT TO FIX IT. I expect that their fix will cost tax payers far too much and will limit and control what physicians are able to provide to patients. It's not that I'm being "selfish" here... I don't trust them. Can I come up with a "better" way? No. I've said that. But.. I don't think your way is good either.

Be nice...until it's time to not be nice...

Now, Lisa.... be nice. -
I'm actually torn on this issue. From the woman's perspective: Pregnancy is DANGEROUS. Pregnancy comes with risk and consequences that he does not have to bear. It is her uterus, her heart that has to deal with the increased blood volume, her hormones that shift... those physical changes are HERS to endure for the 40w. To force her to take those risks would be a violation of her personal rights. But... did she give consent by willfully (and that is an important word... WILLFULLY) having intercourse with a male. From the man's perspective: Other than the initial act (and use or lack there of of contraception), he has no say in whether he has a child to be responsible for or not. But... does he deserve the respect to be included in that decision? Personally, I think that she should only have sex with someone with whom she would be willing to bear his child. And he should only have sex with someone with whom he would be willing to have bear his child. But... that's a bit idealistic.

Currently a student, not employed (relocating within the week), and not receiving unemployment, food stamps etc. Outside of my military service, the only government assistance I've ever received has been the Pell grant and a single week of unemployment insurance benefits. And what are YOU giving back to society now? How important is your major to society? Are you going to be actually MAKING something or DOING something to help society... or just working in some IT field that makes new lil computer game that doesn't help the starving or clothe the naked .... Are you a B Ark candidate? *edit to add link Nope. I have been careful and responsible to avoid bringing kids into the world before I can afford to raise them properly (and before I am comfortable with the idea of raising kids). You've made responsible decisions... but yet you expect others to pay for those that haven't - those that might have had 5 or 6 different children by just as many different partners and have taken NO personal responsibility for those decisions. Are there any consequences for personal decisions? Yes. Federal Income tax? Or just the sales tax on the ciggies? I am of the mindset that I am because I have had enough mathematics, finance, accounting, actuarial science, and economics classes to be able to recognize the fiscal arguments of the economic conservative/libertarian for exactly what they are, fallacious. Ya know... It's nice that you feel smart enough to state your opinion as fact. You've had some book learning. You is learned in finance... and those of us dumb ones (like the lawyer and doctor) just can't recognize that YOUR OPINION is fact. Check the ego and recognize that others might have other opinions and in their shoes, that opinion might be just as valid as yours is in your shoes. ??? That doesn't make sense. I already have temporarily given up skydiving because I don't have the extra disposable income nor access to appropriate healthcare. If health care reform takes place, that will remedy the second issue. So, are we to imply here that if the government gives out healthcare, than you would start jumping again (or it would at least remove one of the issues). Let me get this straight... it's not worth it for you to jump if YOU are responsible for your fuck ups, but if society has to take care of your decisions, then you're ok with doing it.

If it's truly his beliefs, why dismiss them as just rhetoric? How hard is it to accept that not everyone wants to sacrifice everything for the good of a government that isn't necessarily good for them? Stop for a moment. Stand in the shoes of that Father... or in DD's case, that Mother. See the world from their eyes - they want the best for their children. They have SERIOUSLY worked hard and sacrificed to give their children benefit.... who do you think you are to take from them and their children? Why do you think the government should steal from them to give to children of others that don't chose to take care of their own children? Is charity a good thing? ABSOLUTELY. Should it be government mandated?

You are right. That argon laser is kinda cool.

Yup!! It was 7yrs back... Probably one of the best experiences in my life.

I stayed awake for mine too!! My ortho thought I was crazy. Spinal only. Didn't want an IV meds, cuz I wanted to watch.... But, it was kinda funny cuz my knee was more of a mess than he was expecting and I could tell that he was annoyed but just couldn't say anything cuz I was awake. Now... for my second ankle surgery, he HIGHLY encouraged IV pain meds... and I slept. [zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz]

Chips Ahoy flavored Dr KY lube?!

Nope. This is more like a "shrink" thread. I'm not solving anything here. Not fixing the problems. Just a place to vent. If I solve it all, then no-body will be back next week to sit on the couch.

Obama is not a US Natural Born Citizen
kbordson replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Side note (and a lil hijack) - I think that Steve Martin did an EXCELLENT job in that movie, but I liked the 1950 version with Jose Ferrer better -
Ya know... THAT RIGHT THERE is one of the BIGGEST problems with medicine. And President Obama has made it known that he has NO interest in any tort reform. "Guilty of malpractice" - are you talking gross negligence like going to the OR drunk and amputating the wrong leg OR one of the MANY MANY suits that are related to KNOWN complications of medical care: infections, bleeding, even death from an elective surgical procedure. Or suits related to "delayed diagnosis," which forces us as physicians to perform unnecessary tests and procedures to "rule out" a 1/1,000,000 chance of cancer. Or maybe suits for "pain and suffering" or "loss of wifely duties" that my sister tried to place when she broke her ankle and needed surgery....
