Of course you should pray!! Cuz you know.... every sperm is scared It would be like praying before receiving communion. Isn't that why the girls have to be on their knees to recieve something so scared? (I am SO going to Hell.)

COOL.... I didn't know there was a Marvel Super Hero Island. I may have to turn in my geek card.
-
Yeah... but that gets you in trouble with the President. Yes... I did just go there. This is SC after all.
-
Here we go again... Apparently you don't realize that burglary rates in Britain are higher than in the U.S. It's not the rates of burglaries. It's the perception of safety. The reality is that as Americans, we DO tend to be less trusting. We tend to value our property to a higher level. We feel more of a desire to protect ourselves from ... well... from anything. In the past, Americans have dug bomb shelters in the back yard. We have gathered equiptment and supplies after (the first) Red Dawn came out (who knows it this re-make will drive another survivialist motion) Other cultures have more of a community mentality. Neither is bad or good. It is what it is. But trying to understand the others logic while looking through your perspective if very challenging.
-
Unfortunately that's how this culture is going. Even my own sisters have BOTH filed what I consider frivolous lawsuits in an effort to extort money because they think they "deserve" something. THAT, I did NOT support and was QUITE verbal about my disgust. -Not to say there isn't a place for the legal system.... but many the American society seems to be looking at it as the National Lottery.
-
The answer varies. In general, I would help. I've even helped with legal issues of family member that I had to shake my head at them a little for some poor decisions made. I try not to be TOO very judgmental. But sometimes it's hard not to. I HOPE that all are responsible and plan for problems, but I also realize that can be an unrealistic expectation. Sometimes bad things happen and having some help can make all the difference. (basically... I verbalize that people should just take care of themselves... but I'm really a softy)

That's a question that has been buzzing around the theme park circles since the announcement. It's really hard to say. My guess is Disney legal suits are working on ways of breaking contracts at this very moment. It's not like those iron rides live or die based on the name as would say, the "Star Tours" or "Indiana Jones" rides at Disneyland. I'm confused. Superman is DC, not marvel Universal isn't disney. Shouldn't be a conflict, should there?

Thoughts on this thread - 1. Nope. Not going to post any details. 2. Even the BEST system is fallible. Even though Panic Room was a movie, it demonstrates how one can even break a strong system. But... do you want to believe Hollywood horrors or have a complete trust in humanity? Probably best to live somewhere in between. If someone wants in enough, they'll find a way to get in. The BEST chance you have is NOT BEING STUPID. Don't let the two strangers in full face masks in just cuz they say that they're Jehovah's Witnesses. Don't leave the garage door up. Don't invite trouble. 3. Don't judge others for efforts to "create" a "safe environment." Henry Kissinger said that "Even a paranoid can have enemies." I think that Safe House (yes... another Hollywood portrayal of paranoia) shows this well (that and I think Patrick Stewart is DAMN sexy.... well... except in this movie for the whole crazy thing... but as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, he's sexy) What I think is "safe" might not be what someone else considers "safe." But... then I've jumped out of planes and enjoy travel to rural areas in "third world" locations to directly interact with the people... so what do I know.

Likely an "amusement park" that would be VERY amusing... but NOT one to bring small children or even animals. Rides like: Turd down the tube Bouncing boobies

Actually, I have known several doctors that had to go several months without a paycheck to just keep the doors of their clinic open. And I've known doctors that had to sell their practice to keep the doors open.

WOW!! I hope they don't "disnify" Deadpool[/url] I should write a letter: Dear Walt (I know you're dead, but lets still keep this informal) 1. Please don't kill Deadpool. He can't die. M'kay 2. Please don't make Wade sane. 3. Please do NOT make a ride a Disneyland that is the Weapon X Experience - or if you do, do not include any real evil scientist experimenting with genetic mutations, mercenaries complete with sniper rifles and swords or Alex Haydens dinner. Those are all to scary for the kiddies. 4. No disney ending. Siryn could do so much better. 5. Don't make him look like Tom Cruise again, he hated that. 6. Remember that he likes numbered statements. Here's a question. Most states mandate auto insurance. In order to legally drive, you need to ensure that you are covered if you get into an accident (at least limited coverage). If you drive without insurance (using whatever "reason" you want to list: premiums are too high because those speeding tickets weren't my fault, paperwork hassles, just don't bother) and get into an accident - if you are unable to meet that responsibility (even with a payment plan option), you go to jail. Do you REALLY want the government getting involved and mandating insurance like that? Or is it better for society for an individual to be willing to accept responsibility for ones actions. I'm not saying "YOU NEED INSURANCE." If you want to pay cash for services or have a catastrophic coverage plan, nothing wrong with that. It's the selfish and irresponsible attitude that "they HAVE TO take care of me" and "someone else will play for it." that is truly offensive to those of us that value self-responsibility. Not to say that the ER shouldn't take care of you, but you should be willing to compensate a provider for services rendered.

And you seem so hopelessly devoted to a plan that could (and I do acknowledge that it is a "could") remove the freedoms of many Americans. The Obama Administration has it's own receptive and uncritical constituency that will believe, defend and propagate the lies. Just different people and just different lies. Why can't everyone just stand back from the parties and think for themselves for a change? Why do plans have to be (R) or (D)? If something is good... or if something is bad... shouldn't have to do with the mascot that the bill got submitted under. I have personal reservations with the Health Care Bill. I don't trust motives. I am suspicious of the intent. Is that a lie? HELL NO. It might be heightened by the lies circulating, but there might be some truth in the lies. If the entire high school football team is saying that they banged your sweetheart, are you so naive to believe that she is now pregnant by immaculate conception because she has told you that she's a virgin? I think some level of doubt is much more wise.

Delivered - yes and no. Yes, if you don't feel that you have the power or authority to have true medical emergencies addressed. Even without insurance, medical emergencies SHOULD be addressed. And should be handled EXACTLY the same as a patient WITH insurance. Sometimes that doesn't happen. But... you should get the proper counseling on what the illness/injury is and you should have access to care. How you decide to proceed is your choice. No, there isn't a problem with how it is delivered if you have the ability and knowledge to understand your rights. Paid for - ABSOLUTELY. Insurance companies are VERY COMPLICATED and sometimes it can be quite challenging to understand. And... it's expensive. Unnecessarily expensive. What are the excuses for that expense: overhead - needed office staff to manage the billing and records, malpractice insurance which is HUGE in OB/Gyn, expense of education/credentialing, and the list goes on and on. I've stated on many occasions that I do not feel that I am smart enough to know how exactly to fix the problem that is truly such an important topic. Issues that do need to be addressed: 1. Cost of Medical School 2. Cost of credentialing - USMLE Step 1 - $340 when I tested in 2000 (now at $855 by what I can find on the internet, I can't log into the official NBME site and get current fees) Step 2 - $385 from 2001 (now divided to two separate tests, 2CS and 2CK at $875 and $1200) Step 3 - $ can't find my cost from 2002 (now at $670) ABOG Written board ($705 to apply and $645 to sit for the exam in 2006) Oral board ($1265 in 2008) Maintenance of Certification (don't know... haven't yet had to pay) 3. Medical Malpractice. New article from 2003 on the Malpractice Crisis in Missouri edit to add: Abstract from American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology There are MANY other factors to consider as well, but these are the details that I am ACUTELY aware of.

[sarcasm]Oh well.... that covers it all then[/sarcsasm] Well, what's your explanation for the lying liars? On which "side"?

The reality is that we don't REALLY know what the motive or intent of this plan is. I have recently spent two weeks in a country with "free health care" and was saddened by what that truly meant. Policy and application are not the same thing. Even there politics plays a big role. I do NOT trust this administration and I also have no reason to trust you. Reading your (or dreamdancers or ...) opinion on what you BELIEVE wont change that level of suspicion. But just so you don't throw the "left wing" insults out there... I didn't believe what the prior administration "said" either. There's a lot of good posts in this thread that deal with the side discussion of what should government PROVIDE. Is the American population desiring cradle to grave food, shelter, care? Or do "the People" want to independently provide for themselves? It's easy to demonize those with the desire to take care of themselves by pointing out "you're a doctor" or "you're a lawyer.... what about the 'common' people." I held the same believes when I was "just" a nurse. And when I was in college and working a job to give my mom money so that she wouldn't lose the house. (why was the house at risk? Medical costs and Medicaid spend-down. Because my parents had the audacity to have have a house when my dad had a stroke and was admitted to a nursing home... in which he later died partially due to his lack of motivation for recovery and partially due to poor care resulting in bed sores progressing to sepsis. ) I didn't trust the care that he was getting, but I was brushed aside as a nosy lil 19 year old - I developed a distrust of caregivers then. And I didn't trust the government then either. Granted, I still went into the military in the medical field... and I learned different things there. So... tell us kallend, what in your background give you such unwavering support for a government that you seem to think that everyone should "trust." Or .... are you getting kickbacks somewhere too?

FYI for those without insurance or even those with insurance
kbordson replied to Chiquita's topic in The Bonfire
I KNOW FOR A FACT that mine (work provided) covered skydiving injuries. AND my injury occured out of state while on vacation. It was covered. I did have to resubmit some things (but typically not what you would think... like the ambulance ride - it was an unstable fracture following a trauma. Re-submitted and it was covered) But READ YOUR POLICY! Be upfront with the agents and make sure the fine print doesn't cover that exclusion. Insurance companies ARE a bit frustrating at time, but especially if you don't know what you are/aren't covered by. Don't blame the insurance if you "just assumed" and didn't know what you had. -
[sweet southern voice] Sweety... you really are warped. Remember.... this ride is a bit more dangerous than your common carney ride. [/southern drawl]

Awwww. Are you whining, Cheesy? I know that you were "in line" first. It's just that tickets are not redeemable for all the rides on this website.

And then for others... the thicker skin might decrease the sensation and allow for longer "play time" and with the thicker skin, less complaints about a scratch or two that might appear on the back. Just sayin.

[deepest voice... almost Klingon like in tenor] I DO NOT WHINE[/deep voice]

Me? I hope not. You didn't say anything overly rude. Maybe I just have thick skin and a thicker skull. As I've mentioned to you previously, I'm actually impressed with how well you respond to insulting or less than "nice" posts about you. Might be the thick skin

Happy Birthday!! I hope it's a great one!

just curious.... Wouldn't Mrs. Obama be the one killing kittens? And if he's having her do that cuz he's actually busy working... is it a bad thing? As long as it's not under his desk in the oval office....
