  1. So far it seems only 1 has... I don't think serving in combat should be a determining factor in a persons qualifications to post their opinion. Everybody here is more than welcome to have one and for the most part everyone in this thread has made some good arguments, on both sides, the only thing actually spending time in combat does is give you a slightly different perspective on everything, and in my particular case being downrange actually greatly increased the amount of respect I have for women in the military. 2. Ya - I talked to him last week... He told me that he has plans to work hard in the real world, nothing more than 20 hours a week. I don't know if that is because he has real good skills in the consulting field he is returning to - or just wants to continue to live at the Airspeed income range to remember good old times.... Quote I'm gonna miss seein Brian down at eloy, he was always fun to fly with. I can't however complain about seein the original Tail flyer himself back at it History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  3. Great course I really enjoyed it, they didn't put out a whole lot I hadn't already picked up but it was still an overall great time. I had a few gripes about one of the cadre members teaching method which involved him saying one thing and enforcing another(it caused a serious headache for me come JMPI test time). Being a JM on a HALO team is great though, especially when you're only an E-6 History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  4. I've actually heard some people say some good things about it. Quote The only people I have say something positive are those who work for DFAS and basically have their hands in the system so they can MAKE it work. 5. DTS(Defense Travel System), the way of the future. The DOD has forced us to begin using a new system for official travel and despite compaints across the board from just about every member of the military who uses it they continue to push it. A little history on how it used to work(in my unit at least, every unit did it slightly different), when we were told we would be going on official travel(military school, deployment, recruiting gig, off-post training, etc.) we would fill out an RFO(request for orders), you put your name and basic info on there, where you are going, the purpose of the trip, whether or not you need a rental vehicle, and any special needs(classified materials courier orders, excess baggage fees, etc.). The unit resource management office would take the form look up where you were going, and print out your orders, which would include the fund site for the trip where they would reserve the estimated cost of the trip. You would go on your trip and when you came home fill out a voucher that showed all your stops and listed all your expenses, you would fax the voucher into the finance office with all of your reciepts and your orders and they would input it into the computer and you would be paid shortly. Sometimes it would take a bit longer if they were backlogged but a quick phone call and they would pull up your file and if you had an urgent need for reimbursement put you at the front of the line. Back then you didn't have to use your government visa, most of the time I used my own money to pay for the trip so when I was reimbursed everything went to my pocket and I broke even, more often than not made out a bit ahead. Now enter the new era in government travel(it says that on the DTS website!), when you have to go somewhere you log onto this site, which you can only do from a government computer becuase your ID card has to be used to log in, you make your orders yourself by going through an hour long process of telling the computer what you need and putting in all kinds of justification codes for the special requirements of the trip, it asks for you to enter the fund site(which we are never given so we always have to guess and usually get it wrong), and then you send it up for approval. It has to get reviewed but a CPT, and then approved by one of two Major's at the battalion, it never goes through the first time, they always kick your orders back with a note about changing something. By the time everything usually gets fixed you have already left on your trip and don't always have access to a government computer to check your orders(I reported to the HALO JM course without orders in hand). By regulation we are now required to use our government credit card for all travel, the card must have a zero balance at the end of each billing period, no exceptions! If this doesn't happen your chain of command starts breathing down your throat and you end up having to write justification letters and constantly reporting to higher about why its not paid. Once your travel is finished you go back to the DTS website where your orders are waiting(supposedly, my orders for a trip I made back in November were approved yesterday), you pull up the orders and make an online travel voucher using those orders, the voucher proccess is even more painful than the one for making the orders, then you send it up through the same approval process as before, always having them kicked back once or twice sometimes for an unjustified reason. Once they get approved it goes to finance and should be paid out within a week(yeah right!), they split up the disbursement between your government card and you, all the reimburseable expenses go to the card and all your daily per diem for food and incidentals goes to you. when it's all said and done there is always still a balance on your gov. card which you have to send in a check for and recently I've always ended up paying out of pocket to pay my card down. And if you don't get the card paid down eventually those gripes from you chain of command turn into command action that can negatively affect your career. And now to add to the fun we've been told that if you have a balance on your card from a previous trip you cannot leave on your next trip until it has zero balance, so now we HAVE to pay out of pocket before the reimbursement comes through if we have back to back trips, all this summer I was travelling, I had just enough time after one trip to do my laundry re-pack my bags and head back to the airport. I've had a balance on my card for 45 days now because I refuse to pay out of pocket(due to the fact that my personal bills take priority over the governments training bill), my team SGT has my back, he doesn't like the system and does what he can to protect us from backlash of a messed up system, but with a training deployment coming up next week the higher ups are saying I can't go with my card still in debt. So there it is, the government once again developed a system that would make their life easier with absolutely no concern for how it would affect those using it. I know it was a long rant, but I like to whine a lot I'm sure the other active military types on here will agree that this system is no good. 6. And if a bachelor party is the "last night of freedom", you shouldn't be getting married. Quote Agreed, IMO the "last night of freedom" was the night you took your SO on your first date as a couple. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. 7. Edited to say thou shall not hate....I just dislike them. Quote oh no, when it comes to oakland it's very much ok to hate!! History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  8. Denver and Oakland are already out of the playoffs Quote To speak of such things is HERECY!!!! I know, I'm just bein difficult!! Hell Oakland was out of the playoffs before the season started History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

  10. Yeah but they aren't in contention for the wild card, actaully I think they already clinched the first round bye History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  11. God spoke to me today as well, I have those kinds of powers, plus we're tight like that, me and god. He told me to warn you guys that at the exact time of a date following my posting this message there will be a car accident at an exact location that I know. That location is exactly East of the West coast in the United states, to narrow it down further(even though he asked me not to give up too much) I'll go as far as to let you guys know it will also be West of the East coast. So if you are at that exact location at that exact time, I'm sorry but your time has come. And when I'm right, I expect you all to follow my teachings. Now go my children, the Flying Spaghetti Monster has spoken History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  12. I voted Denver but I don't watch sports so I have no idea WTF I voted on. Quote LOL, no worries bro, the wild card is that extra shot for teams not at the top of their divison to get into the playoffs, Denver was knocked out of the running Sunday after losing to San Fran. and Oakland, well, they were never in teh running in the first place, what was it 2-11 that they finished the season!! History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  13. I want to vote on Denver but I don't know, Oakland is nipping at their heels OK just kidding, don't want to piss off any mile-hi fans out there, Oakland fans........maybe you could go for four wins next year!!! I love Denver, hell, I was on Colfax during the riots when we won the big game the second time I'm just trying to make light of the whole thing with losing our wild card slot and Williams so I don't break down crying, I luv my team. Go Denver!! And Plummer, go to Oakland History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  14. you're just more ripped than me! Quote yeah it's true, I look good, I mean REAL GOOD I'll catch up with you if I can make my way up there before I take off, thanx History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  15. I'm not going to vote because I haven't seen evidence from both sides, but the club I used to work at had tons of bachelorette parties reserve our VIP room, and seeing the way the bride's to be acted sometimes is enough to scare one awway from marriage. Plenty of them were well behaved, but there were those few that made me wonder why they would bother to get married, I'm sure the ratio of guys acting this way is the same, which is why I won't vote on this one. 16. I didn't see any of that in your posts. My take was that you posted honestly and sincerely based on your experiences. I don't agree with your conclusions but don't see the need to demonize you for sharing your feelings on the issue. Quote Thank you for making the effort to understand what I was trying to get across, and I apologize to everyone who was offended but I can't change what I believe just because it would make a few people happy. I guess we'll all just have to agree to disagree on this issue, take care everyone. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  17. And to help you show that you are not sexist I corrected you sig line for you. *** "We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm." -George Orwell I just shortened it up a bit, but I guess quoting someone whose words inspired me is sexist. People claimed this hasn't turned into a pointless argument yet you are just picking and choosing the parts of my statements that you can twist to perpetuate your argument that I am a woman hater. Wasn't he also quite the coke addict at one point, not to mention he seemed to get quite big pretty fast at one point, hmm History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  19. True.... but many of these replies in this thread, including yours, can be taken as VERY sexist. I'm not saying that they are or aren't correct... just that those post have come off as a chest thumping defense of the last bastion of man. When such blatantly sexist posts are made, it makes me quesiton the view on "equality" that some people have. Quote If I didn't mean what I said to have the best intentions of stating an honest opinion without degrading the opposite sex I wouldn't be trying so hard to explain my position. I understand you aren't aren't accusing me of this you are just saying how it can be construed as sexist, some people in here just seemed to want to pick a fight and perpetuate the stereotype that we're all a bunch of knuckle dragging neanderthals(now that I look at them my knuckles are cut, maybe I've been dragging them around too much, lighten up people), it's just sad that people can't take a second to step back and try to understand what a person is saying rather than looking at it through a filter of hate and only see negativity. I'm off to bed though, maybe a better way to voice my opinion will come to me in my sleep, take care everyone. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Something not on your list, look at the XM website, I am a diehard XM fan and they have mp3 players that can get satelite radio, or for less get one that records when it is in its dock and record your favorite shows. just a thought History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. 24. Yes, it seems kind of pointless. First of all, it's not polite to brag about your sexual exploits over women. And second, the quantity of women is not more important the quality, in my mind. I'd prefer one good woman over a long period of time, rather than a whole string of short term floozies. Bragging about who has fucked the most women, just seems crass to me. But I'm just an old fogey... Quote Agreed, I used to be about numbers when I was younger but I've mellowed out a lot in recent years and now prefer to find one good one.
