  1. Skatie. Looks like something that would jump out of your chest. Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams

  7. I never liked bowling... ..until just now. Oh that lucky ball... to roll through that dark... cavernous... wet... hole... into the bright light of the beauty of these goddesses... who stick their ... fingers into the tight holes ...
  8. Holy cow, ease up on yourself!! You are brand new at this. You have spent a grand total of, what, 4 minutes in freefall? You did just fine. You landed without hurting yourself, which is the most important thing. You didn't "flunk" anything, you just need a bit more work on staying calm when stuff goes kaflooey... which it did and will. Just get back up there and have fun. You'll be an expert before you know it.

  11. Fuckin' A. It was one of those hard expensive scary lessons... the kind you do ONCE and never forget. ixlr82: I was only b-to-e from 4.5 to 4k. I was practicing my sit cartwheels and stand heading control on this jump. I did land with the main still in the tray. I don't know why it seemed like my handle was higher than usual, but then again, I've never reached for it in freefall before. 12. Just had my first mal... managed to misroute the bridle and pack myself a PC in tow. Guess I should have practiced packing over the winter. I pulled at 4 and realized there was a problem within about 2 seconds -- when you don't feel the bag lift off your back, there's a problem. EPs were automatic and I was pretty calm. Went for red, got it first try. Went for silver, had to try twice cuz it was up in my armpit, but I was under a beautiful white canopy by 2.5k. Stood up the landing and found the freebag about 30 min later. It was my second jump of the season, so I managed to get a grand total of 1 jump between reserve repacks. Morals of the story: 1. stay current on both jumping and packing. 2. Don't let people rush or distract you during your packing, and 3. know your EPs. I did one of the three, and luckily it was enough. 24. The purpose of grounding as it was explained to me was: 1. you understand what you did wrong (education); 2. you understand how to prevent it from happening again (education); 3. you are forced to watch others having fun and doing it right.
