  1. Thanks, I'll be printing one of those off for my boyfriend! Don't think I'll need the girls version though.... -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  2. This reminds me of a friend of mine who has been rushing to downsize since he graduated student progression. I have tried every single approach to get him to calm down, to no avail. Last week he told me that he was going to buy another canopy and put it in the closet for a while. I rolled my eyes at him and told him that would never work, if he bought it he wouldn't be able to exercise the self-restraint. Pardon me if this comparison offends you, but from personal experience, its just like getting a huge chocolate cake and setting it right in front of a person with a weight problem. Its going to get eaten. Better to just not buy it, or in my case, not sell it to the person. (In my opinion.) -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  3. Well, the canopy in question is a stiletto 107 which would be loaded at 1.5. So what do you all think would be the cutoff point for you to tell the person they can't buy it... 200, 300, 400, 500 jumps? *The issue has since been resolved, but now I am curious as to what other people would have done in the same scenario. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  4. So would you sell someone with 100 jumps a sub 100 canopy and feel fine about that? I think that in skydiving some responsibility rests on the sellers shoulders too. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  5. Do you mind sharing the circumstances, like jump numbers and canopy size/wingloading? Trying to figure out a cutoff point I guess.... -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  6. So I am selling a smallish elliptical canopy and I am finding myself interrogating several of the people who are interested. I want to be a responsible seller, but I don't necessarily want to be a wingloading-nazi, so what is appropriate? When you all sell gear, what sort of questions do you ask the buyer to make sure they can handle the canopy and wingloading? Would you go so far as to call their DZ and ask the DZO (or some other responsible person) if they thought it was an OK choice for that particular person? Have you ever told someone (after questioning) that you would not sell them the canopy? Now discuss amongst yourselves. -karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  7. You probably need to do some more research on evolution then. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  8. "Designed" is the wrong word. Perhaps, long ago on the evolutionary chain of pre-hominids our ancestors ate only plant life.. but our ancestors also began to change over time to an omnivorous diet, as evidenced by the dentition in modern humans. Also, the human body cannot produce all of the essential amino acids on its own, so it needs to get these from an outside source. It is true that you can get these from beans and what not. But basically, the fact is, the way humans have evolved, we are best suited to have an omnivorous diet. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  9. I was saw a bike horn for kids that had a warning label that said: Caution! May attract Canadian Geese! I thought that was pretty funny.. imagine the poor kid who necessitated the warning label! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  10. I just started a weight lifting class at my gym yesterday! I'm so excited about it, hopefully I'll be looking a little more toned and not having such a hard time picking up tandem rigs. I'm also hoping that this will help my freeflying. I have such weak arms that when flying head down I can't have hardly any drag on my arms, otherwise I'm too weak and my arms just flap at my sides and the jump goes to shit. Hopefully this will change that. When I joined my gym and had the personal training consultation thing, I told the lady I wanted a nice strong neck and back (my canopy at the time opened crazy)... she thought that was a really strange request.. I guess girls my age don't generally want to build up their necks.. I can hardly fucking walk this morning, but it feels sooo good!!! yahhoooo!!!!! -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  11. So thats where you've been! Glad you had fun.

  13. The funniest thing that I have said recently... Our dog was doing something bad, I can't remember what, but instead of saying, "bad dog!"... I said, "Jonah, that's inappropropriate!" Maybe you had to be there, but it was pretty fucking funny at the time. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  14. I was jumping earlier.. but then i had to pack.. and then it got dark.. and now I'm tired and sore! Doh! -Karen I'm drunk and bored, anyone wanna play? "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  15. Pilot chute in tow and horseshoe scare me the same. I had a pilot chute in tow that turned out to be two out with reserve tangled around my legs and left arm! But it turned out all good. And I've had a friend die from a pilot chute in tow type scenario gone wrong.. But horseshoes are pretty fucking scary too. I wouldn't wish either malfunction on anyone. Make sure you're careful with moving around in the plane and keep a tight closing loop! And also maintain your pilot chute properly!! -karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  16. I think we are discussing the occasional second, third, maybe fourth sunset load that a jump plane will see during the night.. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

  18. Ok, but what does the manufacturer of the rig say? "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  19. I think my answer to your question would have been the question: how does the manufacturer of the rig tell you to route the chest strap? If it was a way different than that which was pictured, then it would be wrong. And in the context of an instructor's course I think it is not your job to judge whether or not it would work, but to simply know the manufacturer's directions and follow those. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  20. I've been crazy in love with my boy since our first date, my second BASE jump. He jumped before me and landed just fine, but I had an awful landing on boulders and blackberry bushes on the wrong side of the river.. several minutes later he came CHARGING around a bend in the path looking for me... that scared look on his face before he realized I was only scraped up just made me crazy for him. I realized soon after that day that maybe BASE was not for me, but Jeff definitely was. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

  22. yeah, be there around 1 or so.. kinda windy though, good thing we have an anemometer now! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  23. Rob, sorry to let you down, but this is not about me jumping naked. Unfortunately, I have left my naked jumping days behind.. The last time I jumped naked the folks on the dropzone stole all of my clothes and I had to walk around in a canopy for a while begging for someone to give me a spare pair of shorts and a t-shirt, to top it off, this happened in front of several walk-on tandem students. If I were to jump naked again I would probably strap on a belly-wart and pack spare clothes in there. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
