I guess give your dog whatever you want. But if you make them sick, you're going to feel like crap for causing it. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Nuts are really high fat!! Your dog's body can't handle those well. I know how happy it seems like you can make your dog by giving them table scraps.. but don't give them the high fat stuff. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Pancreatitis is a damn good reason not to share ice cream with your dog. My dog got pancreatitis a few weeks ago and I was scared that we were going to have to put him down. We had to put him on a special diet of chicken and rice for a few weeks. The first few days that he was sick we had to force feed him pedialyte through a turkey baster. He could barely climb the stairs to get out of our house into the yard. For a few days he would move maybe 2 times a day.. the rest of the time he just laid there. He is doing better now, but he is 11 years old and will probably never recover 100%. Hopefully we won't have to treat him for diabetes in the future.. which is what pancreatitis can lead to. Unfortunately that sort of treatment is really expensive and we might not be able to afford it. Pancreatitis can be caused by several things, (we suspect that Jonah got into some sort of pesticide or something) but a common cause is being fed too many table scraps. Dogs don't produce the same enzymes that humans do.. so they really can't handle that food!! Be nice to your dog and feed him a diet that will keep him happy and healthy. One thing that stood out to me in that video is that the back of your calves are getting exposed to the wind and you seem to be countering that by putting your arms behind you. Make sure that at your knees and hips you have a 90 degree angle. This is the basic position you want to start with. But really, that looks good! Looks like you're getting there.

Seattle Skydivers Club: Freefly Weekend with Guano!
karenmeal replied to karenmeal's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Here is everything you wanted to know about the Seattle Skydivers Freefly Weekend with Guano but were afraid to ask: Chris Salcone and Pete Gali of the freefly team Guano will be here June 30-July 2. Registration for this event is $20 for Seattle Skydivers Club Members and $40 for non-members. (So you non-members might as well join!) Registration is helping to cover the cost of coaching fees, Chris and Pete's jumps, and airfare. What registration gets you is the opportunity to participate in small group organizing (3-4 ways), one-on-one coaching and a fun jump on sunset each day (space is limited). By registering early on www.seattleskydivers.org you can receive priority for the one-on-one coaching. Space will be limited, but we will have at least 1 organizer devoted to one-on-one coaching each day. We hope to keep him in the air as much as possible. One-on-one coaching will cost an additional $10 per jump, but you don't have to pay for your coach's slot. Here’s how it works: Dividing into groups of 3 or 4, each individual will develop a dive plan with the coach in the presence of the rest of the group. After each person in the group has completed their 2 way with the coach, they will be debriefed in the presence of the rest of the group. This will give everyone a chance to glean something from other’s experiences as well as save the coach from elaborating on certain things too often. On sunset load each day we would like to have a larger fun jump which will be open to jumpers of all experience levels. We can do tracking dives, hybrid dives or pylon races. Chris and Pete are bringing 1 (maybe 2) tubes for us to play with on these jumps. In the evening we will have a projector screen on which we can watch videos from the entire day. On Friday night we are going to have a potluck dinner, so please bring a dish to share. On Saturday evening we will have a barbeque that is $5 per person. The entire weekend is BYOB. But hopefully there will be lots of "firsts". In the event of bad weather we will have various freefly seminars, so please plan to come out regardless of weather. This event is structured in a first come first serve kind of way. So you decide what time you want to show up, and we will work you into the one-on-one coaching schedule and try to get you in the air with these guys as much as possible. If you're just learning to freefly and would still like to participate in this event please feel free to come see me (Karen) and I'll give you some tips on drills you can do on solo jumps which could help to prepare you. If you've never tried sitflying before, then 5 solos might be enough to get you into a position in which you can benefit from freefly coaching. Obviously some people need more, but talk to me and we can decide if this camp is something you are ready for. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham -
Middle ear pressure, failed eusachian tube
karenmeal replied to Confuzed's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think that speaking with a specialist is good advice. You really don't want to risk doing permanent damage to your ears. Moving from lesser to greater air pressure is more traumatic for your ears. So you are more likely to cause the damage on the skydive, not on the ride to altitude. Some things that help people who have trouble equalizing are to take an OTC nasal decongestant about 1 hour before the jump, take a nasal spray about 30 minutes before and to chew gum on the ride to altitude and on the way down. I know that some people are against chewing gum while skydiving (choking hazard) but well, your instructor would be the one to make the choice about whether to allow that or not. Personally, I don't think it is a big deal. Also, there are some special earplugs that help to release pressure more gradually, I think they are called air-plugs or something. These might help too. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham -
What about the ol' cohabitation option? I would definitely not identify myself as single. And "single taken" WTF? "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Do not tell her that you want to marry her. Ask her on a date, have fun, but don't put that kind of pressure on her right away. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I freakin love NPR. I drive about 45-60 minutes to school each way and it makes my morning commute so much nicer. And all those people who think its liberal crap can just go watch FOX news. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Evil dungeon huh? What about the happy tie-dye tapestries? Anyone ever taken someone to small claim's court before? We're thinking that we might have to... "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Oh!! Passing me by! Oh well.. but I'll bet I could win a blindfolded packing contest. Our current place is a basement with 1 window that is no where near the living room space. It is sad in here. Our place just flooded for the THIRD time in less than two years. We can't use our bedroom (the only room with a window) because the carpet had to be pulled up. (Yet again.) So we're outta here. Only ten minutes away... But we're going to have windows!!!! And I get to say farewell and fuck off to my landlord, quite possible the biggest prick I've ever met. Woo! -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I didn't start popping other people's zits until my boyfriend's sister confided to me that she popped her husband's zits. Before then it had never occured to me to ask someone if I could do that to them. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
-
I've never gone that far... Just so you know.. if we ever meet and I have a zit.. it's mine. You can't pop it!!! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I popped too many of my boyfriend's zits and now I am only allowed one pop a day. When you get a guy who lets you do that.. make sure not to make them bleed. They make revoke your popping privledges. And as I have learned the hard way, it is a privledge, not a right. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I never got the chance to meet Shannon. But she was definitely someone that I looked forward to meeting someday. Just by seeing her personality on here I know that we would have been friends. Bob, I'm so sorry for your loss. Jeff and I have been thinking about you a lot lately. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I'm a burper. In fact, I've recently begun to work on developing my burping skills. In my future career as a speech therapist I anticipate having to teach laryngectomees how to speak via esophageal speech. (Burp talking.) So it's not a disgusting habit.. it is for the good of my future clients that I practice long and robust burps.
