  1. Welcome. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  2. I had been stuck in fucking traffic waiting for an exit to come along for AN HOUR!!!!!!!!! What in the fuck was I supposed to do?! Piss my pants to keep the kids safe? And by the way.. let me highlight the fact that I thought I was only going 2 mph over the speed limit. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  3. Ok Squeak. You found me out. Good for you. I'm a kid killer, yeah, that's me. All those dead baby jokes? I invented them. Get a life man, it's not the freaking speaker's forum. I'm not going to show up to court and say I didn't do it. If I go to court it will be to say look, I've got a really good record of driving safely, I thought the speed limit was higher than it actually was, my bladder was about to explode, I'm sorry. I would never intentionally endanger the lives of children, I completely deserve to get ticketed for this. If they take pity on me as a poor college student and lower the amount I have to pay, then that would be really great. If they say no, then fine. That is OK by me. But I seriously am broke, and I am a safe driver. So back off with your implications about who I am or am not. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  4. My implication was that I was very aware of the children and was thinking about being safe. People who hit kids probably aren't thinking about the kids around them. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  5. I'm actually not sure.. I've only been on that particular road a few times (I had pulled off the freeway looking for a pitstop after being stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for an hour) and it has always been when children were present.. I thought the speed limit was 25 during school hours. Whoops.. Only time I go on this road is after I've been stuck in traffic for hellacious amounts of time and the morning coffee starts to make it's way thru the system. So I guess I'm always in a bit of a hurry on that road.. but never intentionally speeding. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  6. I thought that speed limit was 25... I thought I was going 25-27. My bladder was about to explode. My head was on a constant swivel looking out for kids, there were crossing guards and all other stuff. I felt very safe at the speed that I was at that I was not endangering children. 7. Nice shades! You look quite intent on speeding. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  8. I don't know how they clocked me.. I think I will go to court and just be honest. Maybe they will take pity on me being a poor college student since I have a clean record otherwise. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  9. I'm curious as to why this might surprise you... "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  10. Noo... no chair peeing. Just the good ol' potty. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  11. Maybe I could bring some medical documentation of my freakishly small bladder? "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  12. Yeah, I'm one bad mutha-fucka. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  13. I'm not a speeder.. but today I got a ticket. I had a clean record up until this! I thought that the speed limit was 25 in the school zone I was driving through, turns out it was 20. I got clocked at 29 (yeah I know, hardcore) but my speedometer said 27. And the reason I was going even a little fast in a school zone.... I had to pee. By the time the cop was done writing my ticket I was about ready to pee my pants! I really don't need a $177 speed ticket right now. 14. If you haven't jumped in 6 months.. your main is probably not too big. Besides.. a parachute is hardly ever too big. My thoughts.. go make friends at the DZ. But don't expect them to instantly want to jump with you, work at being friends with them. Also.. I really doubt that there isn't more that you can learn doing solos. Heck, I could still learn a lot doing solos.. but everyone gives me a hard time if I try to go do that. Practice head down, practice doing cartwheels, practice doing a cartwheel while pretending to hold a dock, take a pull up cord and pass it all around your body (under your leg, behind your back, over your head) while maintaining stability in a sit or head down, practice back tracking (and looking where you are going while back tracking), practice doing a helicopter on your head, practice knee flying, practice back flying, invent a new type of flying (side flying?) perfect front flips and cartwheels - learn how to do 3 or 4 in a row and still stop the rotation on a dime, practice carving, practice smooth break-off maneuvers for sit and head down... and finally.. go ask a crew dog to jump with you. They are always happy to jump with new people. Hope this helps. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  15. I would buy the house with my boyfriend. He is in the construction industry, so could handle a lot of repairs and work around the house, maybe even improve the value a bit. We would not get a house if the mortgage cost more than what we currently spend on rent. Frankly, I don't know if anyone would even lend to us, but it couldn't hurt to look into it. It sure would be great to live in our own house while I'm getting my master's, sell it when I finish and take that money and go move someplace where we want to settle down. Here is the other piece of the puzzle... it is likely that I am going to have to take out some student loans. However, if I go to a certain school the loans will probably not top $15,000, waaay less if I get a fellowship or TA position. I'm figuring that if I will need to take out some loans anyways for basic living expenses (like rent) why not take out the same amount of student loans and then invest them? I can't tell if that has the potential to be a smart idea or if it is incredibly stupid. We certainly would not rush into anything. 17. No condo.. no way! I also want to avoid a HOA. I would like to live someplace rural. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  18. If we were to buy before I graduate it would be in the Bellingham area. What do you know about that John? And this is all still way hypothetical. I haven't even heard from some of the programs I applied to. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  19. Heheh.. I gotcha. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  20. Yeah, I don't see decorating as an expense that will crop up for us. Everything in our home has either been bought at a thrift store, given to us, or made by us. We're definitely not the type to waste money on those sorts of things. The only maintenance issues that we've dealt with as renters has been plumbing/septic problems. Those would be a headache to fix.. luckily though my boyfriend's best friend is a plumber and if we owned a house we would get great deals. It sounds like with a really good home inspection we could prevent having to deal with a lot of major repair expenses. 21. Ha! We have a lawn-mower and a weed-whacker and a shovel thank you very much. As far as neighbors go... It seriously cannot be worse than the people who live above us in the duplex we are renting. The first time I mowed the lawn after they moved in, she came down to meet me at about 10 am with a big gulp slurpee cup halfway filled with whiskey. She told me she had already drank the other half, insisted I finished mowing the lawn and walked with me as I mowed, PETTING ME ON THE BACK THE ENTIRE TIME. It don't get much more crazy than that. Edited to add: And then she made me hug her. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

  23. What is PMI? I really know very little about the process at this point. Depending on the house.. I can probably afford about 10-15% "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
