  1. Great tips, thanks! I will definitely try holding the camera lower when doing the video. I've been holding it to my face, and it is very hard to have a conversation with someone when looking at them through a camera.. it seems to increase the processing demand for some reason. Hopefully that change will help significantly. Might just get to go try it out for a quick jump this afternoon... "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  2. I think that the cost of a tandem video done with handycam should be AT LEAST the cost of a normal video minus a jumpticket. It gives a cool view under canopy, but I think the experience of actually having a videographer flying with them is really cool for tandems, not to mention that seeing the big picture is also cool. I agree with Kim that there should be more rules about it. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

  4. I've got observations scheduled tomorrow.. otherwise that would be a cool thing to do! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

  8. Ok.. I'll do that and you do this: Variability and patterns of naming errors produced by individuals with aphasia "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  9. And I don't know what I'm doing! My mentor quit her job last quarter, the project turned to shit, I'm about to graduate, I have zero motivation, and all I wanna do is skydive. What's a girl to do? The answer would be "go skydive!" but the DZ is closed today. Someone call the whambulance for me! 10. This is a good point about people not liking to talk on video. I'm one of those people who hates to talk on video! Which is one of the reasons doing the interview is hard for me - I know that in editing later I'll have to hear it. Thanks for the good suggestions guys... any more?? I literally am going to write a script based on suggestions. How about the interview in the plane? "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  11. Yeah.. I'm going to make a script sort of thing (that I can follow if I get really nervous) and keep it in my jumpsuit pocket! Hopefully they won't wonder why I'm having to study something on the plane ride. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  12. Oh.. I will have no perving on the tandem students in my video! Them bitches be safe with me. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  13. I know I'll get used to it eventually.. but preparing for what I'm going to say will make things go sooo much smoother. In an interview that I did last weekend (For a video that was purchased) here's what I said: Hey xxx! What brought you out here today? So how many of you guys err all of you, how many friends did you come with? Ok, well.. I can't think of anymore questions to ask you.. so I guess I'll see you in the sky.. ok.... bye! Geezzz.. people were making fun of me when I was editing that video! It just feels like there is so much pressure on me to be witty- it just ends up making my brain shut down. Especially with people watching me, with the camera running, with people getting ready to load the plane... etc etc. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  14. ..has been doing the interview!! I'm not a "real" videographer yet, but I'm getting close. My biggest problem is that I get so shy when I start videoing the tandem students and I end up getting all kinds of tongue tied. Help! I know you guys have all kinds of great lines that you'll let me use. If I have a sort of script to fall back on I'll feel so much more comfortable talking to them. So.. tell me your good lines.. good interview techniques for on the ground/gearing up, in the plane, and after they land.. please? 15. Just get knee-pads for packing! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  16. I had a similar procedure done in conjunction with a bunch of other stuff.. so I can't really help you with a recovery time. However.. the arthroscopic incision sites healed very fast and there was no bruising. It still feels really strange to kneel.. but I don't know how much of that is the other stuff I had done or the work that was done on the cartilage behind my knee cap. Well.. that was pretty much no help.. Hope it works out smoothly for you! I've had friends who had this type of surgery and they were back to normal shockingly fast! 18. My old '94 Honda Civic with 200,000 miles on it still gets 33 MPG overall. I wouldn't be surprised if yours gets 40. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  19. That was pretty much my thought. It's not just about jump tickets.. to me it just makes a whole lot more financial sense to buy a car that will be just as reliable, pay cash for it, and maybe take the money you're saving on not having to pay any interest to the bank and set that aside for an emergency car repair fund (if you're really worried about the warantee thing). Seems to make lots more sense (to me), and really, what is the difference between a 2 year old car versus a brand new car in quality? ****I've been reading Dave Ramsey's book recently so I'm all about cash purchases. Sorry Shari, I didn't mean to turn it into a debate on new versus used cars. Congratulations on a cool new toy. Do you know what the gas mileage is on it? I bet it's pretty awesome. Honda is a great choice for sure. I am on my second one and I love them! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  20. I love the NPR podcasts. They are so great for when I'm taking the dog on a walk. My favorite is Science Friday. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  21. 3 jumps on Saturday. I should have been doing homework but I couldn't resist the blue skies and the lure of a couple tandem videos. Now if I could just start getting paid for the videos.. I know how to edit, the videos are turning out pretty good (If I do say so myself), I just need to sit down, edit a really pretty one, present it to the DZO and say, "Use me and not handycams!" "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  22. For the cost that is incurred in driving a brand new car off a lot - the huge depreciation in value.. how many jumps could you have bought? I don't understand the process of buying a new car.. Wouldn't a car that is several years old be just as good and save you soo much money in the long run? "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  23. I've never seen anyone go in, so I've never had that traumatic experience. But I have lost a few friends and came pretty close to bouncing myself. Each time something happens in the sport that shakes me up, I take the time to consider what my comfort zone is. I know that my comfort zone is not at boogies. Heck, even a caravan full of fun jumpers is a bit beyond my true comfort zone, but I can handle it by planning on the ground what I'm going to do in the air to protect myself from all those other folk on the load who I may not entirely trust. I'm going to Lost Prairie this year, and I know that in the early morning and towards sunset load the sky isn't as packed with jumpers, I also know that the wind is the most calm at those times of the day. Chances are, most of my jumps will be either early or late so that I can feel most comfortable in the air. I'll also try to land on the outskirts of the landing area where traffic isn't as heavy. Skydiving still scares me and every so often I wonder what the heck I'm doing. But, when I stop to truly consider the risks and the way that I can proactively manage them, I feel a lot better about my chances of surviving another skydive. I just wanted to share with you some of the ways that I will cope with the extra stress and danger of a large boogie environment. I hope that whatever you decide to do will give you some peace of mind. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
