  1. Hi Carr, You heard the "WHAM!!" (canopy opening) Did you ever find out who the BASE Jumper was ?? BTW, Glad to have you in the Sport. "There's always a slot on the last Load!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  2. Hi Zeppo, One more for ya', "The Dagwood!!" From the "Blondie" comic strip, Dagwood Bumstead would make these very tall Sanwiches, hence "The Dagwood!" How tall can you make one without it falling apart when you pick it up?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  3. Hi Zeppo!!, Cool beans, so the Earl's name goes on the wonderful throwtogether we call a "Sanwich!!" Anyway, I guess everyone else is goofing with this "sarnie" thing....Thank God it's not a "Sanwich!!" From BAR B-Q to Burgers to Subs to PB&J bring em' on!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  4. Hi Dave, Some years ago so the story goes, the Earl of Sanwich (some locality in jollyole' UK) being an avid gambler would summons his staff to prepare some meat or whatever between two slices of bread for he to eat at the gambling table, "thus the 'Sanwich!!'" So does the tearm "sarnie" predate the term "Sanwich??" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

    Gun Show

Hi Gunners!! Went to the Gun Show in Fayetteville, NC today!! It was Packed!! I'd say there were at least 4 times more people then previous shows!! The dealers had a staff of 2 to 4 people processing gun deals and there were still people waiting in line!! Prices were still "reasonable," considering!! Lots of people handling Glocks, AR's and lots of activity at ammo dealers!! There's still tomorrow to get some goodies 07DEC08 at this show. Check www.cegunshows.com for others. 6. Hi np, fast enough?? Remember what happened to amphetamine Annie,"Speed Kills!!" You're in it whether you know it or not, sorry to inform you it's a "done deal!" So enjoy! One day you'll look around and find all the walls of your house are covered in Skydiving Photos, the garage is cluttered with old skydiving gear and boxes of old skydiver mags, the bobbin in your wife's sewing machine is always loaded with "E-thread," your kids were "DZ brats" and know how to pack better than you and your address book is loaded with the names of old friends who are Skydivers! 7. Hi JM, What part of "Acid" do you not understand? The acid base in Magic markers will etch metal so it will eat nylon. The degradation won't be instantaneous but it will happen and it will be your luck that it's on your deployment!! There are several "water based" markers that are acceptable but if you want to get down to the nitty-gritty then consult MIL-I-6903 spec for parachute marking fluid. 6903 is for a "vegitable base" fluid, there's also a another spec for a synthetic but I 'd have to look it up. Call the Engineer at your rig mfgr's shop and tell him/her you want to write your name on your freebag bridle "with a Magic Marker" and hear what they say!! Bottom line is it's your "plan B" so give yourself every hedge that you'll walk away!! If you really want to put your info on the free bag, put the info on a separate piece of tape and loop or tack it to the attachment loop of your Reserve P/C. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  8. Hi JR, This is most cool, as the saying goes," Don't pick a fight with an old man, he will just kill you!!!" Now to get this coolie piece in semi-auto!!! Para-ord makes a nice 3" barrel "Carry-9" at 24 oz. nice only the MSRP is $979 although a local gun shop quoted me in the $750's. I'll let you know after the gun show tomorrow!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  9. Hi Tom, Here in NC the state law on guns states as follows; "No state permit is required to purchase a rifle or shotgun. A license or permit must be obtained to purchase, sell, give away, transfer, inherit, or receive a handgun by applying to the county sheriff in which the purchase is to be made or where the receiver resides." Long guns are no problem, you can transact one in 15 minutes at Wally-world and walk out with it. Handguns are another story according to the above info. "Purchase, sell, give away, transfer, inherit or receive," pretty much covers any "loop holes" at least for pistols around here. Did they leave anything out???? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  10. Hi JM, Using a "Magic Marker" to color a rig is a "bad idea!!" Magic markers have an "acid based ink" and guess what the acid will do to nylon!! Dig it, people get a "Magic Marker" and write their name and other info on the bridle of their free bag.. bad news. Just because you jerk the bridle a couple of times and say,"It's good" wait till you look up at your separated pilot chute and wonder why you are accelerating dirtward from it at 120 mph!!!! You just bought a new freebag if you don"t buy a new crater first!! Besides that, a friend of mine tried coloring the magenta cordura tootsie rolls on his frap hat with a black Magic Marker. It worked but the black rubbed off on everything it touched..."And Stink!... Man did it Stink!!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  11. Hi Kelp, Well, if you have to "wait" 10 daze if you buy the gun at a "gun show" or "down the street at a shop" then where's this "Loop Hole" everyone's talking about?? I used to live in Ca. and did the wait manuver for a couple of pieces I got but that was a few years ago. Anyway, I'm still searching for this "Gun Show Loophole??" but it eludes me!! If some dealers at some shows are not folowing regs then that's not a "loop hole" that's a "violation of the regs!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  12. Hi Night, Don't know about states with waiting periods like CA. So in Ca if you buy a gun at a gun show you can carry it out right then an there as opposed to a shop down the street where you have to "wait??" ????? Here in NC, you can buy a long gun in 15 minutes at any venue. You go to your local sherrif and apply for and purchase your pistol permits, takes 3 to 5 daze. Then take your permit to your dealer and buy your pistol. 'Got mine and the gun show is this Sat and Sun in Fayetteville!! I like all this action about making guns "child proof" hell we can't even make them "adult proof" eg the get shot in the leg trick in NYC!! for starters. Guns, long, short, large or small ARE DANGEROUS!!!! Just like a Parachute, without adherance to proper training and use, they can kill you!! Remember, above all the gadgets and "safetys" available, "The best safety is the one between your ears!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  13. Hi JR, C&E Gun Show this weekend 06 & 07DEC at the Crown Expo Center, Fayetteville, NC ...400 tables, admin $7.00. Got my permits, got my $$$. This "Loop hole" thing really gets me?? Maybe the Fayetteville show is the only one with licensed FFL dealers that have phone lines in to their tables, run background checks, require pistol permits and deal just like a gun shop in town. Where's the "Loop Hole??" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  14. Hi tas, It's all done with lines and mirrors!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  15. Hi Jim, I concur. From watching Tom Corbet and his Space Cadets and Captain Video on Pumpy Jones' 17 inch Black & White TV in 1950 to seeing Endeavour touchdown at Edwards today has been quite the journey!! Knowledge is the Power!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  16. Hi cheese, Kinda cheap really. Back then (Late 80's) I was makin' as a Master Rigger about $11+ per hr at Irvin. Good bennies though, 401K and ins. too. From dragging one out of the bin to hauling over to shipping was about an 8 hour day. 'Ya have to remember that included assembling all the components, checking the 4.15 sec reefing line cutters out of the Bang Bang Locker, QC checks, waiting for Engineering checks, and "don't forget the PAPER WORK!!" BTW I don't know what Irvin bid for the contract but I think it was more of a "Glory Job" than a $$$$$ Job, know what I mean?? PS, The above is just for the main, the pilot chute is hadraulic ram packed mortar deployed system. Might be able to find out some info on NASA's web site?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  17. Hi Lisa and all, Hot stuff on STS-126 landing!! Cool Drag Chute!! I worked for Irvin on the Shuttle Drag Chute program!! We did the developmental tests and delivered the first 12 systems to NASA. Endeavour had the first Drag Chute "AND I PACKED IT!!!!" This landing was picture perfect!!!! If you noticed a "snivle" of the Drag chute on deployment, that's the 4.15 sec. delay reefing at the skirt to lower the opening shock. Thw NASA channel had good pics of the landing!! Did anybody record it???? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  18. Hi JR, An old Perris regular, Mike Burt, is the guy you see doing the what looks like a "no parachute" exit at the beginning of each episode. He had the rig under the coat!! I have some clips from "escape from Devil's Island" or something where they rode the motorcycles out the back of a Skyvan. I think they filmed those at Otay. Have to ask NTHRIWZ. Some of those sequences were a riot!! Hey guys, lets go try that hahahahhahahahaha!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

    RUM

Hi kb, A bit of the old "kill devil" for ya' eh!! Got about a quarter of a fifth of Coruba Dark Jamaica Rum left, good stuff!! Since the weather has cooled off a bit in this hemisphere, try this. Get you one of those mini espresso machines, some good coffee and a 12 oz. thick glass beer mug. in the mug put a jigger of "the rum," also add a jigger of your favorite coffee liquor, Irish cream and a bit of cordial like amaretto, Frangelico or ??. Start the espresso brewing and when the pressure builds, put the mug under the steamer spigot and froth up the concoction!! When the espresso machine quits sputtering, pour the whole carafe of coffee over the froth in the mug!!! Add some whipped cream or cool whip and sprinkle with a smidge of cinnamon, Enjoy!!! PS, Don't really know what to name it, I've thought about "Black Death Cocktail," "Cutaway!," "Double Malfunction," but it doesn't matter. 'Ya start drinkin' one of these and then it gets like when Han Solo flips that switch and the Millineum Falcon hits "Hyper Space!!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  21. Hi gem, Glad you made it thru!!! I guess this "supervisor dude" did not "see" your protrac as I'm sure it would have set off his bells that it was a triggering device for a bomb!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  22. Hi ozz, I'd have to go back to Martha Faller's High School English 2 class to get an "up date" on "the Queen's English" or is that "the Queens' English." Go figure? Only trouble is, "She's dead Jim!" As for my "English," it's like drinkin' whiskey, some people drink it straight, some with a "Twist." As for anything I've said, if you can't figgure it out, go look it up in yur Funk & Waggnals!!! As for the instructor/JM or what ever getting sued by the student, well good luck!! After 40+ years of hanging out at the DZ I've seen a bit. People will sue. If the Sport is to survive, I guess that regardless of how well we prepare ourselves, be professional, have good gear and training and what ever else, we are still vulnerable!...........is that better??
