Hi Gw, What you're looking at is the death throws of America. It wasn't too many years ago when Ronald Regan said,"Mr Gorbechov, tear down this wall!!" The wall eventually came down and so did the "Hammer and Sickle." Look long and hard at the "Stars and Stripes" for with attitudes and acts like we see above, it won't be long. Next time you walk thru a cemetary, take note of the grave inscriptions that say,"He died while serving his country." Those men were not Mexican-American, Polish-American, Shoshonee-American, African-American or Hungarian-American, no they were all just plane old "American!" And their blood they shed was of the same color,Red, as in the flag! Oh don't worry though, "The American Flag" as we know it wont come down without a fight! There's going to be a fight alright, and a big one. You can bet your cypress on it!! Ya also have to remember the times, "Playboy" still hadn't given anyone a glimpse of foldout pubic hair till I think it was the JAN71 issue!! Gypsy Moths came out in what was it, '68 or '69?? Hi Reg, Whell, as for landing a "PC" on yer feet!! No problem, that's one of the reasons why PC's were "THE CANOPY" because you could!!!! As for the "Cape," 'wasn't so much a precursor to todays' wing suits as a reminant of yesterdays' "Bat Wings!!" As for taking your rig over those old rounds, trust me, if we had rigs back then like we do today, we'd been jumpin' em'!! Ya can bet yer cypress on it!! We didn't have those either!! BTW those were Sherry North's tits (the dancer chick) but Deb Kerr's were a "stunt double!!" And what Jim "Airtwardo" said!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Rich, Yup, that shear line out between the sidewalk in front of manifest straight out to where Case Rd and the canal cross. It's been there for years!! 'Seen lots of good stuff out there!! It's a trip to watch it in action during the summer when it sucks up the hardpan dust and you can "See it!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Dan, ya' got a lot a' good points. As for the "Fear" of landing down wind, I don't know about "fear" maybe "respect for the situation." As for chasing windsocks, if the windsock is doing 360's there are other problems to deal with!! Otherwise, I'm landing "into the wind..period!" I am not going to risk a high speed, down wind landing! Why do I want to increase my risk for broken bones?? Sure landing down wind is cool and groovy and you can leave rooster tails in the dirt and get more miles out of your swoop, FINE!! But just because you want to, don't expect me to, got that!!! Someone said to my late friend Harry Leicher,"Harry, why did you land way out there, nobody else did??" to which he said,"your statement answered your question." Funny how that goes. PS So ya' wanna go "Down wind??" Go search my posts for the one where I talk about the late (he got killed in the Taft Crash) Brady "Down Wind Brady' Sanders from Otay!!!!! Now "That's" Down wind!! I might be misunderstanding you, but to land into the wind, regardless, might kill you and someone else, if that is not the previously agreed pattern. It is possible to land downwind safely and under control. If you are going to land "your own way" to do it safely, it must be far from everyone who follows the agreed pattern. I only expect everyone below a certain altitude to be in the agreed pattern. It's predictable. OK Dan, Let me try this again, What Harry said!! At the bottom of Harry Leicher's posts he would put where someone would ask him,..."Harry, why did you land all the way out there?? Nobody else landed out there." To which Harry replied,"Your statement answered your question." Maybe you didn't know Harry. If you did, maybe you'd understand. Maybe, just maybe, are you starting to get a clue?? Hi Jack!!, My bud Gordo Foster (Guardian Parachutes) said they were doing some filming for one of Carl Boenish's films up at Taho in the snow in winter (the clip is in one of his movies) At the time Gordo said he had a handle bar moustache and it "Froze" when they were in the 172 (door off). Gordo said that Keven Doneley reached over and tweaked the end of his moustache and it "Broke!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out -

Hi Cap, Back in the S/L Daze I had a few that needed some "extra training" beside the class for their first jump. Other than that, no. On the other hand, trouble was once they leave the door an yer watchin', Jeeezz!!! Complete left style series.......before they got to the end of the static line!!! Old Timers, How many sport static lines did you make?
skybill replied to captain1976's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
The dz that I jumped in those days was a single Cessna 180 dz that was open only on weekends and then on Wed. evenings in the Spring, Summer & Fall. The C-180 had an in-flight door and the pilot could really get you to altitude in a hurry ( for a C-180 ); the normal pilot was John Pummell, B-37 for you old guys. This was a Wed. afternoon, probably about 1966, and three of us showed up to jump but we did not have the C-180 available. There was this younger pilot guy who had a C-170 and he had been asking some questions about flying jumpers so we asked him if he would take us up on a jump if we paid him. And stupidly, he said OK. So we took the left-side door off & removed the left-front seat ( the co-pilot's seat ). One guy sat up front where the left-front seat had been & the other two of us sat on the rear bench seat. I was on the left side of the bench seat, which is IMO the the real 'wind seat.' This was in the Spring, it took ~3 1/2 days to get to 12,500 and it was really cold almost all of the way up. And then, of course, this inexperienced pilot put us on jump run at 12,500 about 5 miles from the dz. We finally ( whew ) made the jump; but we never did see that pilot again. But you are correct; there is no 'warm' seat in a doorless Cessna. JerryBaumchen Hi Jerry, We had a couple of different Cessna 170's and 172's at Hammond, La. till Bob "The Stud" Munn from Baton Rouge bought the Howard DGA-15P!! 12-5's were definitely "Rare as hen's teeth!!" in the 170-172's. Yer right about the "Cold Seat" in the open door cessnas, they were all COLD!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out -

Hi Cap, Pretty much what Howard said. After my clear and pull though the training was pretty loose. Still had to do the drill and knew how to pack since my 2nd jump and had my own rig!! Think I spent about $25 on it!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out -
The mail order minister being a skydiver was kind of assumed. It'd be real hard to get married in freefall if s/he wasn't. Hi Sky, Yup, my 2nd hitchin' was at the DZ. DEC75 Otay. Our "mail order minister" was a whuffo type an' we said our "I do's" at the pea pit after Jim McDonald, the DZO, shot off a double green verypistol to signal the go ahead!! We put Chris'es ring in its' box in a sock and got a Skydive together. I went out base holding the sock and Chris came in pin, and took ahold of the sock. Jim Spencer, my "Best Man" came in 3rd on wrists and when we all nodded that Chris had the ring I let go to the 3 way and everyone else flew in. Got down , put the ring on Chris and the party started!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi 269, Yup, weddings, 'ya gotta' remember that one of those extravaganzas is,"Their Day!!" It's all about them!! You,"the groom" has only three things to do during this fiasco; #1 "Show Up!!" #2 "Don't get in the way!" and #3 "Don't fall down!!" Otherwise, have a nice day!! BTW, Weah you from dude?? 'Ya keep sayin' "chicken head" in ref to the "female in question??" Sounds like you from Robeson County, North Carolina like around Red Springs or sumptin'?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Gar, "Usually!," Skydiving is defined as,"Exiting an 'Aircraft in Flight....." see FAA definition. Some years ago (before many DZ.commers' were born) Roger Worthington jumped off the Coronado Bay Bridge in Sandy Eggo with a S/L rigged chute!! Nancy Gruttman was the Conference director at the time and she caught all kinds of flack from Sandy Eggo city Politicians!! So did the FAA!! Well some fast thinking polyester short sleeve white shirt with 40 pens in a pocket protector, clip on narrow tie wearin' FAA type said,"The Sandy Eggo Bay Bridge does not have an "N" number on it so it does not come under our jurisdiction." end of story. So, when ya' kin get yer "Pet Rock" ta' fly.... Good luck!! BTW, Go ask Joe Sveck and the Flat Bed Ten (or was that 11??) Bunch, ...oh I forgot,"He's dead, Jim!" so is Max Kelly and Joe Crotwell (although I think Joe was with the bunch but hid in the bushes and didn't get caught??) SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
