  1. Hi Dennis, I have a small batch of SDM's from about '65 till early 70's. A bunch got swiped by the mail guys when I was in the Nav and a few others disappeared over the years. I'll check the ones I have. Check with Lyle Jr., he's still on the left coast and I think he still has the SDM archives!!! That's a treasure!! "Missed a lot of those shows in those early daze, 'was out sailing for the "Blue Water Line" on the other side of the planet, aka; Uncle Sugar's Canoe Club, Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club chapter!! 2. Hi T-K-O, 'No Black Berry here (the electronic device!). However, there's a bunch of black berry briars growing behind the shed and they ought to put out enough berrys this summer to make a good batch of Black Berry Wine!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  3. Hi Howard, Kinda' looks like Hank with one of his "Innovations!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  4. Hi nix and all, Be advised as you can see smoke canisters get "HOT!" and as for M-18 military smokes don't even think about using the "WHITE" smoke cans!! They burn even "HOTTER!!" Our old CSO Ben Seal took one away from someone on the ramp who was going to jump with it, pulled the pin and threw it down ramp. Got a lot of white smoke and lots of "FIRE!!" The white smokes are loaded with white phosphorus and burn hot enough to melt the can!!!! 120MPH of freefall ain't even gonna cool it enough to keep from cooking your foot!! 5. Hi Aussie lady, Yup, Flat, pro, trash, take yer' pick. I don't know who started Trashpackin but it's the forerunner to PRO packin'. Ya' set yer brakes, step out of yer rig, grab the two sets of risers and run the slider up to the canopy, shake it twice and flop it on the ground, go to the top of the canopy, pull the tail out of the way and with your fingers "Rake" the lines straight, put the center of the tail over the edge of the slider and tuck the test of the tail under the nose, straighten out the canopy into a long sausage and "Stuff it" in yer Bag. "Trash pakin" Some people didn't even bother with the bag and just coiled the lines in the bottom of their container and s-folded the canopy on top!! Worked fine till a couple of people got suspension lines half-hitched on their container side flap!! Sparky kin' tell ya!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  6. Hi Tiger, Ineresting thought or two. Considering the potential lethality of a tampered with parachute by these geeks, I'd think only once about letting my rig outa' my sight!! You're gonna jump that without doing a total, and I mean total inspection on it?? You give these guys your parachute and they take it into their innersantum past your view and God knows what they will do to it?? Replace the word parachute with "Loaded and cocked Pistol!!" in untrained hands!! Kinda like watchin' a bunch of monkeys tryin to do you-know-what to a football!! So when you get your rig back and it has "curious stains" on it you know what happened!! They just love the feel of that fresh nylon!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  7. Hi Raft, Never mind "flatpakin'" or "PRO pakin' try "Trash packin'!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  8. Well dummy, where's the damn picture? Sparky Hi Spark, OK, Here's the deal. Somewhere in the 1965-66 issues of SDM, in the "archives" gotta dig thru and thumb thru each mag to find your MUG!! Only SDM I have on the desk is 8/66 showing Jimmy Godwin exiting Pop's T-6 kneeling on the leading edge of the port "WINGTIP" by leaning over forward!! No this doesn't have the "MUG!" but yer welcome!! Gotta revamp the office, the aquisitions of over 40 years in the Sport are interesting, 'need ta' have a "Loft Sale!!" Missed goin' fer "Ironclad," hell I had enough trouble with jez plane ol' "Cardinal Puff!!" "But," I still have my "Rumbleseat Cardinal Puff" card!! PS, ask Lyle, Jr. he has all the archives of "Sky Diver" !! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Can you dig it?? Wednesday night at the Rumbleseat!! Talk about "Instant replay!!" Shot 16mm film on Sunday, ran back to LA Sun. night, dropped film off at lab Sun Night or Mon Morning first thing, they developed it on Mon.-Tue. and you got it first thing on WED and First run was Wed. night at the "Rumbleseat!!!" 'Twas an article in Cam's old Rag 'bout some joker comming into the Rumbleseat sportin' a monsterous mug made out of cast iron pipe!! Someone did the Supreme Cardinal Ritual with it and wala!! 12. Hi Thora, I remember the "incident!" I was at the packing tables at Old Elsinore a lot of yelling and screaming, people pointintg out to the DZ, someone (Debbie) under a violently spinning main canopy!! By the time I saw what was happening, Debbie had already ID'ed the malfunction and initiated cutaway proceedures with only one side releasing! Had it not been for the slider being down, the canopy would have gone into a full tilt steamer! Although the spinning of the canopy kept the verticle speed down, she still hit "HARD!!" I don't even remember if she pulled her reserve, anyway I think she did! "Get something out!!" The word from the DZ came back, she's banged up but she's alive!!! After we got Debbie back to the hanger and although beat up from the landing she was going to be OK, the "Big Question?? "What the He2xL Happened??" Investigating the rig, one of the canopy releases, was installed "WRONG!!" (I don't know about the other??) Anyway, the malfunction of the release boiled down to attention to the details of how the release works and was put together!! I could show you on an actual piece of the equipment how this happened but describing it in print, it will get lost in translation. Bottom line, Debbie lived and Tapewells got raked over the coals!! Knowledge is power, pay attention to details. Anybody want more info on this particular Tapewell mal, I'm sure we can get a bunch of Old Fart Riggers to revive this now obsolete piece of equipment and how it malfunctioned!! 13. Hi 912, Iran, transsexuals??? Hmmmmmm???? 'Been over 30 years since I was there (working for Grumman Aero) but I will say the concept of "Sexuality" in their culture was a far cry different from ours!!! One thing for sure, the "Saints" WILL win the Superbowl again before Hooters opens a resturant/bar in Iran....unless all the Hooterbabes are copys of "Vince the Hooters Guy!!!!!!" 14. Hi Jim!! Good stuff on the package. Remember "BRIGHTON WAR ZONE" painted in the street a block up fron the beach!! You know you live in OB when: The cops ask you for your ID daily! You are wearing your Levi Jacket and long jeans in July because of the fog bank even though it's 110* on the other side of the hill!! You hear the sound of waves crashing on the cliff out your bedroom window. The cops ask you for your ID daily!! There's more sand in your livingroom than on the beach. Did I say, the cops ask you for your ID daily?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  15. Hi John, What he said!! Hank Aschutto "Stretched" the rings on my V-7 Vector!! Had to cut them off and get the screw on's from Bill!! Too much fun!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  16. O.B. is still 'reasonable' for a beach slum! I bought a motorcycle there about 7 months ago, they were living in the standard one bedroom, (8 blocks off the beach) and were paying 2700.00 a month,(to rent) My House payment here in El Cajon is just under 1200.00 and has a yard and a garage!(and Pool) BUT, I did hear the house on the corner rents for 2,000.00 a month, so compared to renting...No, I still wouldn't "live" in OB.... Unless the beach was in my back yard... OUCH! I have a good friend that just bought a 2bdrm condo overlooking the pond, you can throw a rock and hit water. (few blocks south of the pier) She paid 160,000 (+ or -) which means the payments are a bit over 1/2 the 2700 rent you saw... In this economy there are some deals out there! Hi Jim, "O.B.!!!!!!!!" Ya' got me thinkin!! Back when, like the 70's I lived there!! "A few blocks south of the pier!!" Try 4954 Del Mar Av. Like right on the edge man! 3 Br.s me and 2 other dudes were paying $300/mo.!! 2 Kool for school!! Not any more man!! 'Could see Pescadero from the front window!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  17. Hi Tharv, Yup, the "Blackbird" what a plane!! Several storys on the net about its exploits!! Back a couple of cases of beer ago when i worked for Weber A/c in Birdbank, we now and then would have to go to Palmdale to do some retrofit, or install some widgit on a B-1B ACES II Ejection seat sys and it always seemed to be on a "Wednesday!! Funny about that, 'twas the same day they always flew the "Blackbird!!" The whole flightline stopped work and watched!!! ....Your Tax dollar$ at work!!! Quite majestic. 18. Hi dd, It's happening already, "No paper money!" No food stamps, ya' get a plastic debit card!! I'm sure though, that when green backs become collectors items like "Confederate Money," the "Black Market" will figure out a way to deal with it!! There was a photo of some major drug bust somewhere where in this house there were rooms just full stacked with CA$H!! Just think that in a flash the Fed declared CASH to be no longer legal tender!! Guess we'd have to go to the Barter System. When I was over seas in the Navy, American Cigarettes were as good as cash! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. Happy B' Day Bill!!!! Thanks for all the effort with the "SCR" over the years!! Many more "Blue Skyz!" to ya'. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  20. Hi peek baby, Over in Steve1's "scary storys from the old daze" thd in hist and trivia down at the end around page 43 is some storys of cross country jumps and high wind jumps and doing things like parasailing a ramair!! Yup I kin' remember gettin "drug' back in the old daze at Hammond Airport with a 7-TU on a windy day!! Got drug accross the runway too and it tore up my container before I could arm over arm pull enough riser to collapse the canopy!! That was OK back then, whole new B-4 backpacks were only $25 chute, ripcord and all!! I bought another B-4 container from another jumper for 50cents!! Had 4 rigs in my car trunk, the cheapest cost me $5.00 to put together (my hobo rig) and the most was $30.00 (my Cadillac Rig). I think that was around 1965. Where were you back then?? 21. Gary, Let me introduce you to the “entitlement generation”. They are “entitled” to make bad decisions anytime they feel like it. They are “entitled” to make the same mistakes others have made in the past. They are “entitled” to ignore sound advice given by someone who has been there, done that and has the T-shirt. When something goes wrong they are “entitled” to blame someone/something else for their fuck ups. They are “entitled” to demand that there be some electronic gismo available to pull their head out of their ass when their “mad skills” fail them. The world has changed my friend and you are looking at the future leaders of skydiving and society as a whole. Ain’t it grand? Sparky Hi Spark, Bud, that's in there with yer',"You are not now nor never will be good enough to not die in this sport" sayin'!! Right on! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  22. Soft loops, center pull handle, anti inversion netting... all sound good to me. But using spring loaded pilot chutes on belly mount reserves, without cutting away? I though in the civvy world one wouldn't install a reserve pilot chute if one didn't plan to cut away. Or had thinking changed at some point? For airborne troops at low altitude did the saving in time outweigh added risk? Hi pch, Back in the mid 90's when I worked for scurvyirvin, we developed the "MIRPS" system for the T-10 reserve. I was the rigging dept. at the time, all the other riggers over time got fired, quit or went to jail ('another story). We utilized a 48" pilot chute with a "free spring!!" and a 13' free bag type bridle. There was also a 4 oz. weight at the base of the P/C to help the launch and orient it. I table fired it many times and the P/C went straight up 15+ feet dragging at least 3 feet of the canopy with it!! In a mal mode, the jumper fires the reserve straight out, the P/C anchors itself over 14 feet away from the garbage and pulls the apex of the reserve into clean air. Scurvy may still have some brochures in their archives, anyway the system worked great,"If you followed 'our' proceedures!!" But the Army didn't. They were hell bent on their old pile everything up like a pyramid and have bicepts bunny pull the 4 flaps over and pin it!! with all that pressure on the cones you had a cone lock!! SO! scurvy extended the container by an inch!! I have copys of the test program tapes, over 400 drops!! never saw the dummy ever have to beat on the container to get it open!!! If yer interested I'd be glad to toss out more info. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  23. Seriously? Seriously. PCP is a liquid, commonly called "water". Smokes or joints can be dipped in it, making them "wet" or it can be sprayed on pot = "wetting it down". Hi JD and all, PCP, Angel Dust, Hog Trank and now "water!!" PCP a veterinary tranquilizer from the 60's that the field quit using because of its "side effects!!" Some people had other ideas!!
