Hi aka, Didn't have no reserveside or mainside JM's!! Gill said,"GO!!" I was,"GONE!!" 08MAY64, AFF was way off in the future. BTW, Me, Jerry and Pat Swovelin, Nancy Gruttman, Don Rumble, Bob Burher, Mike Johnson and a few others were in the first "open" USPA AFF Certification Course at Perris in MAR82. The course was run by Mike Johnston and Jack Gregory. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

When I was working on my SEL rating, my instructor told me not to even try to do a departure with 40 degrees of flaps on a C-150, and strongly recommended not using more 30 on landings unless absolutely necessary, due to the issues of trying to climb with full flaps. The 152 had the flaps limited to 30 degrees. Hi Ryo, A big 10-4 on that but like Jim Turston, my Fed examiner said," I lost a really nice Cessna 150 because the student couldn't recover from that situation." After he told me I passed, he said OK now watch this. he craked in 40 degrees of flaps (This Cessna 150 had that much) and put the plane in a steep climb and proceeded to stall it, recover, stall it, recover, he'd just sit there and play with that stall!! I was impressed!! Thing is that really wasn't a departure stall, in the conventional sense, but as I said above, an aborted approach to landing stall with full flaps and low airspeed. I concur with your instrs. advice on 30 degrees max flaps , 'ya really don't need 40 * unless yer tryin' to get into a really tight short field. I guess Cessna figgured out the 40* thing when they upgraded the 150 to the 152 and reduced the flaps to 30*!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

wheeze, gasp, choke..... Hi Mike, 'Couldn't have said it better myself!!!!!!!! And, as things begin to spin out of control, remember this: "All politics in this country now is just dress rehersal for civil war." -Billy Beck, AUG2009- SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Ryo, Yup, "Departure stall" was it flaps up or down?? When I was a student pilot, my instructor always had me doing departure stalls flaps up, the "normal configuration" for that event. On my Private Check ride, Jim Thurston the Fed examiner, said ok, departure stall set flaps at 40 degrees!! I replied that my instructor never had me do them like that and he said,"Well you gonna' now!!" Tried one and sure enough it was hell holding it straight and the Cessna 150 came off to the left!! He said try it again and this time honk on that rudder and hold er' straight!! "Did it!!" He said,"Good, you Pass!" He said he does that because he had a solo student in "His" C-150 comming in for a landing, slow, dirty (full flaps) and the tower gave him a go around and he couldn't handle it!! (I guess you would call that an aborted approach stall instead of a departure stall but the effects are still the same, CRASH!!) Just thought I'd toss that tidbit out there. Hi E-M-Y, Yup, Skylark field is quite a place, went thru lots of changes over the years. When you walk out by the slab that was the old hanger beware, you walk on hallowed ground! When the winds blow, if you listen closely, you will hear the laughter and good times of those who went before you. Listen to the storys of the elders and carry on...."And there I waz....." Hi Howard, Oranges were good but Grapefruit were a bit slower and easier to manage. We splattered the intersection of 4-22 and 31-13 at Hammond with a few back when. I remember me and Mike Winter tried tossing one once. Talk about a curve ball!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Pat, I thought we got 5 troops in the Howards?? Remember doing the 5-man dangle? I used to like to be first out and hand-over-hand to out past the jury strut!!! lots a fun!! We had a Howard in SE Louisiana back when, I think Bob "the Stud!" Munn from Baton Rouge got it in 64 or so and passed it on to Ben Seal then Leon Riche. It was a 5 place + pilot. Do you remember the red Howard at the DeRidder La., meet in late '63?? Don't remember how many it held but I think it was at least 5. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Lorie, Whrl,(said with a Southern drawl) 'hain't nutin' "O"-ficial 'bout hit', jez da way it waz!! Somewhere in my archives, 'got some photos of "me" like that and so do a lot of other Jumpers 'round here who are willing to admit it!! Back when, in '64, when I started jumping with Southland Skydivers, we had the "Luxury" of a former WWII AAF Training base then turned over to the local govt. in Tangiapahoa Parish, LA. Louisiana Skydivers from Baton Rouge, 45 miles west, had no such facility so they came to Hammond to jump "OR" they managed to find a plane or two at a local airport and jump into a "Farmers' Field!" I remember on the SE side of Baton Rouge was the DZ, a Farmers field, we called the "Perkins Road Pea Patch!" and there was another that I jumped at a few times a couple of cow pastures just called "Blacks" I guess that was the name of the owner. 'Ya had to be careful where ya' landed, 'specially ifn' da cows jez left!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Lori, A long long time ago in Skydivings' "Grass Roots" daze jumpers would don their combat boots, Sears mechanicx' coveralls, football or motorcycle helmits, surplus gear and skydive out of small planes into farmers' cow pastures. The locals, mostly country neighbors would hang out at the fence, watch and ask a jumper when he lands,"Hey bud, 'Whuffo' you jump from dem par-chutes huh??" Hence they got named "Whuffo's!" Then Skydivers discovered airports and later full fledged "Skydiving Centers" emerged. Have fun and enjoy. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Steve, And don't forget,"Beautyful Streamer!!" Ole Howard mentioned somewhere here about the "The Parachute Songbook" from a very long time ago published by the NE Parachute council just dug up my copy out of the archives!! Beautyful Streamer and Blood on the risers came out of the Airborne but the rest are pretty much the product of twisted skydivers. eg, Little David age 39 1/2!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Bill, Your last sentence says it best,"As it is they just look like dicks, and are best ignored." That's fine as long as they don't step in front of you. Unfortunately sometimes these people ply their lies for personal gain at your expense. So you were in line for a promotion but got passed over by someone with higher (claimed and false) qualifications!! 'Hard to ignore that. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Steve1, Do a search, there are lots of great songs!! Some of the Skydiving ones are spinoffs of the airborne ones. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Ummm, dude... what was the circumstances of that jump? Hi Nick, "Never found the body?? That's the first I've heard of that!! Between Space aliens snagging him and getting slung into the Ocean, anybody got any substancial ideas?? BTW, there had to be at least some blood or something on that horiz. stab.??? Someone falsely claiming to be an MD or a professional engineer can do a lot more damage than someone falsely claiming to have once been a SEAL. It is also a criminal act. Hi John, The guy who "Used to claim" he was an MD or pro engr. will do as much damage as the guy who "Used to be " a Seal. Damage being done by whoever from proclaiming they are something they are not is the issue. Like dig it, a guy shows up in front of you wearing a cop suit, a badge and has his gun drawn, cocked and pointing at your head and says,"You are under arrest!!" Are you going to ask him for his ID???? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi pup, Yup that was down at Otay late 70's I think. Guys doin a 4 way and the elev of a C-130 heading to NORIS and the crew called in a "Bird Strike!!" The 130 was "Off Course" and Notams were filed and the DZ was marked on the sectional. Go Figure. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi f-d, Yup, Today is Lundi Gras, tomorrow, Mardi gras!! 'Missing it this year but that just makes next years' more tempting. Missed the Krew of "Wrecks" on the Blood and Ticfaw River by Springfield on Saturday and the Krew of Tchefuncte Boat Parade at Madisonville yesterday. Tomorrow in New Orleans, the corner of Bourbon and St. Peter street is,"Ground Zero" for a good time!! If you go there, have a Hurricane at Pat O's for me!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Van and all, Go to www.pownetwork.org and take it from there. Chuck and Mary Shantag have helped bust wannabe's, fakes and liers for some time now. Going on 9 years ago we had a guy at our DZ that claimed LCDR Seal status, and all the trappings that go with it. Compliments of pow net he's busted and he got paid a visit by some Real Seals who administered an "Attitude Adjustment" to him!!!! Hope this helps. Funny about guys like that, whenever you corner em with something (like that knowing the parts of an M-16) they should be up on they have a great comeback. Anyway, pow net can run a make on him and bust his "House of Cards!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Hi Bsq, A while before I started jumping (08MAY64) 3 area jumpers went down to the DPRE at the at that time New Iberia Navsta to do their Senior Rigger test. That was Numan Gill B-1929 (later to be my FJC instr.) Ben Seal, Jr., and Charlie Leblanc. the seal symbols they drew straws for were,"FUJ, FUK and FUL." Ben got FUJ, Numan got FUL and Charlie got "FUK!!" Ben was from Baton Rouge, Numan was from Livingston Parish somewhere and Charlie was from down around Lafayette/ New Iberia, LA. As we know, Nate Pond got D-69 and his son Gary got D-6969, whether there was some HQ shuffling, who knows?? However, by the luck of the draw I got D-6009!! Those two "00's" make for some interesting stick figures when I sign Log Books!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
