  1. Hi B-T-D, By all means "get the video!" I watch mine all the time, in my brain!! It is burned into my memory with absolute sound, color, temp. and even the smell of avgas in the cabin of Milt Nobels' Cessna 170!! (thats "Before Video!") All I have photo wise are a couple of grainy B&W ground shot pics. Ya' might forget other jumps but you'll "NEVER" forget yer first!! As for not getting the video, those who don't miss their only big chance!! On their way home from the DZ it'll hit 'em that they jumped out of a perfectly good airplane and since they have no proof, it's really just a "dream!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  2. Hi strom, Sorry, din't have the keep on trackin, have seen it though and the character was also on one of the SCR Stumbles shirts. Didn't make it to Richmond so I missed that one too. Got lots of old SoCal DZ shirts and Ghoulidge shirts and "Handcock Hotel New Years' eve Party" shirts!! 'Time for a Skydivein' Garage, no, make that a "Loft Sale!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  7. Jerry, I do remember one of those squares as it was the first one I ever saw. He told me he built it himself. I was pretty young at the time and was quite amazed that someone could actually build a parachute. I also remember he was super nice and kind of a quite guy. I heard he moved to the west and bought it in a turbine of some kind. I'm happy to have his signatures in my logbook. Hi Cap, 'Ya must be talkin' bout Jim Lowe?? He showed up at Scare-us-valley one day and was flyin planes out there. First I ever met and had an opportunity to hang around and talk with him. Really nice guy. He was flyin' that Helio Stalion and after he dropped some jumpers and was comming down he developed problems!! Seems the Stallion had a full flying tail and to control the thing ya' flew it with the electric trim tab on the yoke. Seems the trim jammed in the "ON" "Down" position and ran out to the stop!! This happened about 2500' when Jim was settling into the traffic pattern to land. Heard about the accident and the next weekend out at Scare-us-valley all I remember seeing was some twisted orange/yellow wreckage of the plane. It was toast!! Really a drag about losing Jim. It was a really sad day. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  8. Hi Raceguy, Now let's see?? 'Ya been jumping 30 yrs?? 'Ya got a rig? Probably a "Racer" hmmmmm?? If'n ya got the PC in a sleeve, get a D-bag or pod for it for starters. Whatever type of cutaway links ya have on yer racer?? 3-ring, shot 1/2's?? get a set of extra risers and hook up the PC to em'. next, hook it up to yer rig and extend the shit out of the closing loop, (Unless it's a really old SST or sumptin) and go nuts. Should work jez fine!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  9. Hi JR, God we've come a long way!! Lucy's mantra has been around for years, unfortunately these daze she has a lot of supporters. Myself, growing up in the 50's, I would tie my .22 rifle to my bicycle and pedle down to the river to go plinking with some of my friends. Our fathers, grandfathers, uncles, significant others, Scoutmasters, and etc well versed us in gun safety from when we began to walk and talk!! We never killed anybody or each other!! Perhaps to know where I'm comming from, here's a good book!,"The Old Man and the Boy" by Robert Ruark and his followup book,"The Old Mans' Boy Grows Older" One should note Chapter 8 in the latter titled,"Same Knife; Different Boy." BTW, These books are available at your local public library, at least for now. Lucy may think they're subversive and have them pulled from the shelves!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  10. Hi Scruff, All this talk about Beer got me thirsty!! 'Remberin' brews of daze gone by down New Orleans way, the "Big 3," "Falstaff, Jax and Regal!!" And ya' can't forget "Dixie" 'was still around till Katrina tore up the brewery!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  11. That's an interesting photo from the period when we were transitioning from the old to the new. It's an old Paracommander chute, but it's packed in a bag rather than a sleeve, and the pilot chute appears to be a throw-out versus spring-loaded (not sure about that one). And yet he's still wearing a belly-wart reserve! Hi John, Bottom chute the "sleeve" is all wadded up and that looks like a spring loaded pilot chute. The upper canopy if you look at the left side of the photo (the right side of the chute" you can se the deployment device near the skirt just peeking around the corner of the canopy. Looks like the real McCoy photo from the PC time period. If ya' had a "POD" ya didn't need much retainer!! The crown lines were your bridle for the Pilot chute!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  12. Hi Scruff, Ya' don't even have ta' get your name on the "Beer Wall" ta' drag out some of yer brew for a "Taste Test!!" As the saying goes,"Do your part to save the Earth, It's the only Planet with "BEER!!" yer doin' fine!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  13. Hi BV, Didja' read da' rest? They were "suppose" to send me a "Medicare" card but because of, "Barrycare" I got a "Kaskets 4 Klunkers" card instead. Being a "Skydiver" I guess they think I won't live that long, SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  14. Hi Scruff, "Homebrew??" Did you say,"Homebrew???" Buddy, jez bring it on!! Sounds "FINE!!" to me! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  15. Another socialist, I hope you're not one of those socialist-hating socialists. Hi k-y, Socialist??? Now let's see,"White, Male, Protestant, 2A supporter, Fundamental Constitutionalist, Conservative." Yeah they sent me a "Medicare Card" but it's only a piece of paper. At least I can take my log books and $2.50 to the Airport Bar and get a Beer!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  16. Those Navy conicals always looked a little erotic when they were inflated, didn't they? Hi Jim, "Looking a little 'erotic' when inflated??" Hell, when ya' jez chopped yer trash an' yer dangeling under the bitch they look just "Gorgeous!!!" As fer the photo, hmmm? the NAVCON had a skirt band like a C-9 and the change-5 "Water deflation pockets" on every other gore at the skirt. without seeing the data pannel that canopy looks like one of the Lo-Po connies made by various people. BTW, 'Ja ever locate that knife?? My last Connie ride, 09SEP79 at Scare-us-valley. My old Viking stupid-lite spit a control line on opening and went into a really wild spin!!! Had one of the last Wonderhogs with capewells (right before 3-rings came out) 'Did the "Ka-chink Ka-chink" thing and the spinning force threw me over backwards!! As I pulled out of the dive I fired off the Conical, had a Waters 4-line release good stuff!! This was right out across the runway from manifest and Joe Morgan saw it all and comes running out of manifest holding both hands up in the air and yelling,"TEN, TEN!!!!!!!" BTW easy stand up ldg!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  17. Hi J-M, Yes NAVCON's had that "Conehead" look but McQuatties chute was the all white "28' C-9!!" so was Olivers'. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  18. Hi Rush, 03June I turned 65 so a couple of months ago "SS" was suppose to send me my brand new "Medicare" card but lo and behold because of "Barrycare" the card said that "Congrats, yer first in line for the 'Kaskets 4 Klunkers' program!!!" Go figure?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. Hi Zepper, Yeah and in Viet Nam it was the Tungsten conspiracy!! "AND!!" someone gave the Mexicans a bogus map to the "Lost Dutchman!!" Go figure?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  20. Hi 88, On a "Rag Gore" rig, only the upper part of the cut out had binding tape. The seams were left un taped as the radial seam stitching was "good enough!!" Also bath tub dye jobs were common!! Oliver Duncan from Louisiana Skydivers had an old all white Navy C-9 that he dyed the lower 1/3 red and the upper 1/3 blue and called it his "Uncle Sam" rig. Oh yeah, and Don McQuattie had an all white Navy C-9 that he dyed only the upper 1/4 of it red...we all called it,"The Boob!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  21. Hi Tharv and everybody else, Tomorrow is the 4th of July!! In '75 my at the time girl friend Chris and I got to go to the Colorado River at Parker AZ for a weekend of fun, jumping (ground and water)and sun!! Scary? well looking back on the weekend, the worst injury was some guy busting an ankle landing a stratorag on the parking apron. It was really a fun time, Don Hansen organized it, got a Beech 18 "H" model from an Air Mail Pilot from Bakersfield named Leo Pike. That was the hottest Beech 18 I ever jumped!! Think I posted about this mini boogie elsewhere but the "Scary Part" is remembering now that it was "35 years Ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Seems like yesaterday and now when we look at those old snap shots from back then, how young we looked!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  22. Hi n-t, Funny how nobody said,"Blood on the Risers," "Beautyful Streamer" or any of the other fab jump songs (Jumpers in the sky etc) but I digress!! Crank up "Flight of the Valkirie" by Wagner on your Ipod as you exit on your next high hop!! Jez like right outa' "Apocalypse Now" dub in the sound of the choppers and gunfire for more omph!! BTW, "Wear" your helmit, don't sit on it!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
