  1. Sort of. They had a 747 run off the end of a runway a couple years ago. Cost to repair the plane was literally more than the cost of a brand new 747, but they did it anyway just so they can say they haven't lost a jet. There were no mjaor injuries though, so I dunno if it counts as an accident. Well, it does by the FAA definition I would think (substantial damage to the plane), but whatever. Cost of the repair was over $100 million. Pics By the way, its Qantas, not Quantas. Just realized that! Dave
  2. Moved to /wingsuit (ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com/public/wingsuit/wingsuitmovie.wmv). Dave

No no, ultra low drag sitfly shorts! Hmm, I wonder if the cheeks flapping in the wind make more drag... Dave
  4. Sounds like he was a rocket scientist though, working for United Space Alliance (the company that operates the space shuttle) and formerly the AIAA. Dave
  5. who's the big bitch now? Dave
  6. Ahh, ok. Well, it at least gives me the important date. I can handle writing it down. Dave
  7. I've set reminders for my last couple repacks, but never got them. Anyone have any luck with those? Talking about http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/reminders/reminder.cgi?calculator=1 if you don't know about it. Dave
  8. I agree with the assisted suicide idea, assuming they were very close friends, which I don't know. I have a feeling there is a LOT more to the story than was reported. There is no way he could get all the way out without the instructor noticing anything. Either he knew full well what was going on and chose not to say so, or there was a struggle of some kind and it didn't get reported. You're not just gonna look over and suddenly find the other person just missing. I don't trust the media at all, so my guess is the story is far more complicated than was reported. But I'd guess it was a suicide however it happened. Dave
  9. New motto for my site: "If it's not on skydivingmovies.com, it didn't happen!" However, there are exceptions. PLEASE DON'T UPLOAD IT!!!! Why the hell did you get that on video?!?!?!?

I have NO idea what that's about (I musta been absent that day), but here's a thong to use. Errrr, scuse me, "ultra low drag sitfly shorts." Note: If you're a University of Maryland student or friend of a University of Maryland student, you didn't see that... yet. Just click back a couple times and pretend it never happened. Thanks. Dave
  11. Compared to the alternatives, I disagree. Overall I'd say that's a pretty good way to go. Horrible that anyone would want to commit suicide, but not such a bad way to die I don't think, if you really want to. Dave
  12. For some of those people, my simple response is "you'll never understand..." and I just leave it at that. Not worth trying to explain. Some people may have misconceptions but are truly interested, such as a cop that was searching my car at an airport over the summer. I thought he might be slightly weirded out by the cardboard box in my trunk, so I let him know it was skydiving equipment. He had tons of questions, especially since it was only a few days after a swooper was killed nearby on a landing gone bad. "How many times have you done it? 60? WOW! You must be an expert! Are you an instructor?"
  13. Have that one on my server. weather_chan-atmospheres.mpg in the /from tv/ folder. Its about 90 megs. I'll try to get some of those huge files compressed to more realistic sizes one of these days. Dave
  14. I knew one of the guys that was killed. Very sad. Dave
  15. Texas shmexas. Did you see the Maryland game?
  16. You guys are all going about this the wrong way. If you want my vote, gimme free ice cream. I swear, that'll work. Also promise better stickers with our USPA renewal. As far as the real issues go, well, I think everyone's about the same. Sure, go ahead and try for that 180 repack cycle and other stuff like that. But for the most part, as long as the USPA exists and has fairly competent people in charge, I don't think it really matters who is on the BOD. I just care about how I'm directly affected. I WANT MY ICE CREAM! Dave No, I'm only half serious.
  17. Martin, add it to the new stolen equipment database on this site: http://www.dropzone.com/stolen/. On an unrelated note, I have some gear for sale. See stolen gear listing above for details. Just kidding. Dave
  18. What are the requirements (jump numbers, licenses, etc) to jump it? The web page says jump tickets are $25. Seems so low. Dave
  19. As long as you're arguing about it publicly, let's have the story. Let the jury decide! Sounds like a good one! Dave
  20. Why is that? the rule states: ...No person may conduct a parachute operation using a single-harness, dual-parachute system, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow any person to conduct a parachute operation from that aircraft using a single-harness, dual-parachute system, unless that system has at least one main parachute, one approved reserve parachute, and one approved single person harness and container... Dave
  21. I think he probably has. He'd have to travel pretty darn far to find a DZ that would likely let him jump. By the way, one of his former AFF instructors mentioned he graduated AFF with over 40 jumps. At least he's persistant! Dave
  22. Crosswind and good stuff are both great. Expensive though. Dave
  23. Gee I wonder who that could be. I've heard that rigger has had 6 cypres fires, and will admit to it when asked. Of course that has nothing to do with his rigging skills. Overall he definitely knows what he's doing and is very talented with a sewing machine, but he can be a little forgetful. But what REALLY gets me about him is that he is the original owner of my container. What kinda guy chooses to put pink on his rig? All you guys with pink rigs and pink jumpsuits that think it's perfectly normal, IT'S NOT! I'm a SOPS and proud of it (even though I wear pink)! Dave
  24. wow i just got that forwarded to be from a friend yesterday. Those things travel fast, don't they? Dave
