  1. actually subdirectories make my life even tougher. My snazzy new database can't seem to handle them for some reason. (Probably something simple like an extra / somewhere). But I'll make a dropzone.com directory. I think there are plenty of files to make it worthwhile. Anyone out there wanna try running an apache server and a SQL server? I'd love to try out the web based search engine for the server I designed a long time ago. It was a searchable database that allowed searches by filename, description, file size, length, etc. It also let people leave comments about each video, which could be really useful. Gotta be able to use PHP to connect to a SQL server, but the files would stay where they are now. I'd run it myself but I can't run any servers here cause of our router. Dave
  2. Thought about it and will do it if people want it, but I think there are already so many directories, its a little diluted. But since probably the majority of my hits come from dropzone.com, I guess there might be interest in that. Dave
  3. Some more: swoop2.mpg moved from /UPLOADS/ to /landing/ good morning eloy.mpg moved from /UPLOADS/ to /misc/ Hanging Exit.avi moved from /UPLOADS/ to /exits/ wingnuts xmas eloy video.wmv moved from /UPLOADS/ to /freefly/ loser_luke_complete_short_skydiving_film.mpg moved from /UPLOADS/ to /misc/ BIG Dz.com-Eloy' 02-vbr.wmv moved from /UPLOADS/ to /misc/ Thanks to everyone that has uploaded! Lots of great new videos!! Anyone know where the loser luke video came from? SO WEIRD, but funny. Dave
  4. Sorry I haven't been moving files regularly out of the uploads folder. I've been away on a dialup connection so I couldn't watch the videos to choose where they go. Also I created an access database to actually move the files around for me. It's a pretty crazy way of doing it, but it beats FTP for dos which is the only other way I know of. Anyway, when I move files now, the program generates a logfile of the files that were moved. It may not be complete (cause I added that functionality after I started moving files), but here's what I just did: CEPLP_SkySurf.mpg moved from /UPLOADS/ to /skysurfing/ Funjump_with_ProTrack_data_countdown.txt moved from /UPLOADS/ to /misc/ 300wayrecord.wmv moved from /UPLOADS/ to /RW/ 300wayrecord.txt moved from /UPLOADS/ to /RW/ 300_way_short.mov moved from /UPLOADS/ to /RW/ flat bird spin.wmv moved from /UPLOADS/ to /wingsuit/ flat bird spin.txt moved from /UPLOADS/ to /wingsuit/ 120_way.wmv moved from /UPLOADS/ to /RW/ Mexico Cave Big Wall BASE.wmv moved from /UPLOADS/ to /base/ Skydiver Faints - DivX.avi moved from /UPLOADS/ to /misc/ Funjump_with_ProTrack_data_countdown.avi moved from /UPLOADS/ to /misc/ pond_swooping.wmv moved from /UPLOADS/ to /landing/ pond_swooping2.wmv moved from /UPLOADS/ to /landing/ There are still tons of files in the uploads folder. Most of them are videos I haven't had a chance to watch yet, so I don't know if they're complete and/or where they should go. If anyone is able to suggest the best directory for some of the videos, please PM me or email me. Dave
  5. It's not very good I don't think (can't really watch it right now...), but there's one at skydivingmovies.com in the /misc/ folder called mr_bill.mpeg. There should be a video of the exit in the /exits/ folder. Both are small but low quality. Dave
  6. So if we find it for you, you're gonna cover all our jumps next summer? COOL! Where shall I have the DZ send the bills? Dave
  7. That may have been true a long time ago but not anymore I don't think. He now owns a Gulfstream G-IV, which is much too big for Turners Falls. He flies into Westfield, MA (where I did most of my flight training). I've seen his plane a couple times but never got to meet him. My instructor knew his pilot and once arranged a "tour" of his plane for after one of my flying lessons, but they ended up leaving before we were back down. Cosby's previous plane was an MU-2. My instructor told me about the first time he met Bill Cosby. The plane landed and my instructor was walking up to say hi. Well, the door opened, and there was Cosby (not sure if my instructor knew it was his plane at the time). My instructor kinda freaked out and took a couple steps back... right into the prop, and banged his head. Bill Cosby asked him if he was ok. Nice introduction, huh?
  8. I have no clue about that boogie or DZ, but you might wanna call ahead and ask about jump requirements for helicopter and especially balloon jumps. I've typically heard of a B license requirement for helicopters and a C license for balloons. I know cross keys told me 70 jumps with an A license was good enough for them (or 50 with a B) for helicopter jumps. The balloon is a bit more extreme since you jump from lower and have to find your own landing area, so they will likely require a lot more jumps. Dave
  9. I've only had a Bev suit so I can't compare it, but I like mine. I've been picked up by the grippers and thrown out of the plane twice now (with plenty of practice "throws" on the ground beforehand). They seem strong to me! No problems with it at all. Can't say if it's the best, but it's definitely good. Dave
  10. In order of appearance: Ocean City, MD Delmarva, DE Northampton, MA Crosskeys, NJ Ellington, CT Next up, Williston, FL Dave
  11. Damn, for $35 there better not be a smiley face blocking your head! Guess I'll wait till it comes out on video. Oh, right... Dave
  12. I think I met Marko last summer. He was really nice. I'd highly recommend Aerostore. But he wasn't the guy in LouDiamond's picture.
  13. I used to have a parachute for FS you could freefall with. Dropping the flaps would "pull." Didn't fly much like a parachute but it was fun. Could even sorta do hook turns. I probably downloaded it from www.flightsim.com. Dave
  14. That yer not a PCSS member... yet.
  15. I admit I voted for nekkid, but that was before I realized she was.... wait a minute.... thats legal, isnt it? Where's that webcam? Dave
  16. Cool video! Thanks!!! I'll be moving it to /RW/ at some point. Dave
  17. Is it a hideous deformity or is he a secret agent?
  18. Maybe the classifications need to be changed. I don't know why they bother people since they only have to do with post numbers, not "trustworthiness," but people do seem to care. Maybe just add the word "dropzone.com" to the beginning of each one. dropzone.com newbie, dropzone.com enthusiast, etc. I think the more important number than post totals is the post per day ratio. That is really how those sorts of things should be calculated, because that more accurately reflects one's patheticness.
  19. The problem is at that website, you only enter your info once. In other words, whatever you put for your billing info is what ends up in the whois. If I entered fake information, they can't bill me. Thanks for the link though. I'll check them out. Dave
  20. He's also a pilot so of course he's a great guy!
  21. Those of you with your own domain names... where'd ya register them? There are half a bazilion registration companies out there. They get as cheap as about $9 per year as far as I can tell, but there's something very shady about the cheap ones. Not a huge investment, but I don't want to get screwed either. www.godaddy.com is a popular cheap one, but something bothers me. They offer "private" registration for an extra $9 per year. This hides your "whois" info from the public. If you don't pay it, I am afraid they will publish as much info as they possibly can, to get people to want to pay it. Not really that big a deal, but I just wanna make sure I don't start getting tons of spam or something cause I register a domain. Any skydivers in the domain registration bidness? I'd always rather use a company owned by someone who's rig I could tamper with if I receive bad service. Oh, in case you're wondering, I don't own skydivingmovies.com so I don't already know about this stuff. EDIT: I should add that I only need the domain to forward to another address. Don't need hosting. Dave

I have no problem with it on women. On guys, unacceptable. Used gear is the only excuse. Yes, my rig is black and bright ass pink. Originally purchased by a guy. Just not right. Dave
  23. I met chuck yeager a few years ago. It's amazing how he views his own career. That's how he views it... a career. Someone asked him what it was like to break the sound barrier for the first time. He said his job was to break the sound barrier, and he did it, and that was it. He didn't think of it as anything very special at the time. He had broken a couple of ribs the day before so he used a broomstick to help him into the X-1 and get the door closed. Someone asked him what ever happened to that broomstick. He said he had no idea, it was just a broomstick. He said he wished he had kept it since it kind of became a legend, but at the time it was just a makeshift tool. Really nice guy. Hard to believe he just gave up flying F-15s recently. Dave
  24. Martin is a nice guy with around 10,000 jumps, but he's also old and whiney. Safety is his #1 priority, and he's very clear on that. He has no problem yelling at tandem instructors, etc, if he thinks they're doing something that isn't as safe as it could be. I've seen him give impromptu lectures on whatever safety item has been pissing him off. But online, he sure complains a lot more than he teaches. Any forum or newsgroup is only as valueable as the information being posted. He's got plenty of information. If he wants rec.skydiving to turn around, how about posting useful information instead of complaining about all these new people invading his sport. Dave
