Go back and check the archives and see that even a low life nobody like myself was saying these things here before Bill or Brian. But I'm not about to claim credit for nothing. The difference is that a respected canopy pilot, parachute designer and canopy control instructor has decided to add his two cents to the topic. Quit smoking Feb 2001. No cravings anymore. Smoked 2 packs of Marb reds a day for almost 25 years. It does go away eventually. Takes a while but it goes away. __ My mighty steed

Me either. But my home is the one place on earth that I can be assured I will not be subjected to smoking and drinking. The rest of the world is out of my control and out there, if someone says "Mind if I smoke?" I say "Knock yourself out" Keeping your home a haven is not judging others. Its being good to yourself. Why would you want your house or car to smell like cigarettes if you made a conscious choice to leave smoking behind??? Thats nuts man

As an alcoholic thats been sober 12 years and doesn't tell ANYONE how they should live, (or what they should be smoking or drinking) and I'm here to tell you that your position is overly judgmental and ill informed, and that you appear to be prejudiced against entire groups based on a few annoying experiences. Is this your SOP? I hope not for your sake. As an recovering alcoholic, I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that I have FAR more direct experience with recovering alcoholics than you do, and I can tell you for a fact that we (as a general rule) intentionally avoid telling other people what we may think of their habits. I'm sure you are a great guy. I hope that you find a way to become less judgmental (and more educated on the subjects that you preach about) though, cuz your comments don't exactly put you in a favorable light. I think that these thoughts probably occur to everyone in this sport from time to time. Even more experienced folks. They usually show up in my thoughts when I go through periods of less jumping. The more I jump, the less I have these thoughts. My best answer is jump more __ My mighty steed

A hook knife is better (in my opinion) because there is no danger of cutting yourself with one. In an emergency in which you might be spinning and flailing around at high speed, a straight blade could be a problem in a couple ways. For one, it would be very easy to badly cut yourself in this kind of situation. It could also be dropped more easily. Most hook knives have handle designs that make dropping them less likely and blade designs that make cutting yourself impossible. __ My mighty steed
