You are wrong. Packing fast does not mean that would be careless. No. I'm not wrong. There isnt a professional packer on earth that will pack MY rig with as much care and attention to detail as I use when I pack MY rig. This belief is supported 100% by the % of less than perfect openings I experience when its been packed by a packer compared to when I pack it myself. Also, "not packed half as carefully" is not the same thing as "careless" __ My mighty steed

The lesson is to take responsibility for your pack job whether you did it yourself, or you gave it to the packers. Either way it was your choice. I have 311 jumps. not all that many. I have packed about 300 of those myself. Out of the 10-12 that were done by packers I have had issues with either radically off-heading openings, line twists, to total slammers that left me bleeding. (not an exaggeration) Not every one of them, but almost all of them were at least off heading, 2 were serious slams (one of which actually left me bruised and bleeding), and a few with line twists, and one with a premature brake deployment. Takes me twice as long (or longer) as the packers do it. Thats a pain when my buddy is hammering me to get it done so we can get on another load. Still, I've NEVER had a really bad opening when I packed my own. Had a few off heading, but thats it. Not so much as a line twist. Its a trade-off. The lesson I learned was to either pack it myself or shut up. Packers pack fast. They get paid according to how many rigs they pack. Unless its a REALLY slow day you can bet that the thing is not going to be packed half as carefully as if you did it yourself. When you decide to put it into the hands of another to pack it, its still your choice, and therefore any bad opening you get is still your responsibility. __ My mighty steed

What percentage of your skydives are perfect?

You don't have an option for "LOL" __ My mighty steed -
Exactly. I had the same problem, so I turned it upside down and now I can hear it fine. When it was right side up the hole where the tone comes out wasnt lines up next to my ear. __ My mighty steed

This is not uncommon. I've heard many jumpers with this complaint over the years. The consensus is that once it has dislocated once, it can happen again very easily. Getting into some weight training can strengthen the joint and make it more resistant to this, but the only permanent option I am aware of is a surgical procedure. __ My mighty steed

Havent had a beer in 14 years. Not gonna buy any for anyone else either. I'll buy a case of root beer, but that's as close as I'll get.

I hate it when my toggles catch on fire. I've heard good things about FM-200 fire suppression systems. Maybe you could install it on your risers

I wear prescription glasses, and Flex-Z "over-the-glasses" goggles. No tint. Works for me. Might not be as "cool" looking but I don't really give a shit about that. With their faces flapping (and other parts on occasion) nobody is particularly attractive in freefall __ My mighty steed

Awesome job, man :) I have yet to have a cutaway. I still go over EP's every time I go to the dz. hopefully when my time comes I handle it with the same skill and confidence you showed

Getting Big to get back from a long spot????
ChrisL replied to azureriders's topic in Safety and Training
Ultimately, it sounds like they were only told to do the wrong thing in a circumstance that will never happen, so the belief will not likely result in anyone coming to grief. The wind will always be in their face so they will always get small. Perhaps... __ My mighty steed -
Isn't that what Cross Keys is? that said, the dz is the best place to meet like minded people :) sometimes its hard to get in with people when you are new, but speaking from experience, I met my best friend there and we jump together all the time now. I also jump at Cross Keys. Once you have your license I'll be happy to jump with you. I'm a belly flier and like small groups. 3 or 4 way. Feel free to PM me if you are still feeling like an outsider after you get licensed.

FAA Changes Rule on Main Parachutes.

I currently have a life insurance policy that will pay my wife if I'm killed in a skydiving accident. I guess whether I want an answer or not depends on whether some insurance company would use this to as an excuse to deny death benefits if it turned out I had changed my own rubber bands. __ My mighty steed -
FAA Changes Rule on Main Parachutes.
ChrisL replied to 3331's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Unfortunately, even though the questions were asked very directly several times, there were no direct answers give to them. Just a lot of back and forth about what it means to riggers. Nobody had much of an answer for what it means for us non-riggers in either thread that I could see. I'm not any kind of rigger at all. Can I legally replace broken rubber bands on my own d-bag? Can I legally replace my own closing loop? I didnt see a single straight answer to the effect this will have on guys like me __ My mighty steed -

I guess I deserve it by allowing myself to be diverted from the point of my original post and being inaccurate and lazy in my use of the language. The irony is that these are exactly the kinds of errors I would harass others for making. I've been hoist by my own petard (speaking of tards

You guys are killin me. I more than adequately clarified the point I was trying to make. Whats more, the point was valid. The OP wanted to know what we thought of the video, so I pointed out that that particular audio clip was not accurate. I wasn't trying to be a dick. They did not and will not use hot air balloons for those high altitude jumps. Bill, I KNOW that you knew exactly what I meant even before I clarified it.
