I've seen that video at your house That was a tail wind?

Yah, that's why I said old

I only have 25 BASE jumps on my BlackJack and 6 skydives, but I would recommend it to any BASE jumper. I've never heard of vented canopies having a higher forward surge or forward speed. If you're worried about backsliding, make sure your deep break settings are good. I'm assuming with good deep break settings a head wind wouldn't cause anymore backslide than it would on a non-vented canopy, but I'm not sure about that. It's definitely possible to have good break settings on them. I have jumped bridges in headwinds, and not had any noticable stall or backslide. They do pressurize sooner, but flying sooner doesn't give you less time to react unless the object was more overhung the lower you were. Forward speed obviously effects your time to react, so good DBS give you more time to react. I have heard the argument that DBS slows the riser turn. I played with this on skydives and it's true. If you do a riser turn with your toggles stowed, then riser turn with them all the way up, you turn faster with them up. I figure the increase in forward speed compared to increase in turning speed probably makes DBS a safer and horizontally faster solution though. Just my theory. Another great thing about the BlackJack is flare power from deep breaks. You can sink all the way to landing at 50% breaks and still have a nice flare. Other than the blackjack I have only flown an old Ace and a Mojo, and neither had as nice of a flare as my BlackJack. Hopefully someone with a lot of canopy experience comments about the forward surge/forward speed of vented vs. non-vented. If there is any noticable difference. I think that would probably be more of a canopy brand to brand type of difference than a vented to non-vented.

I think we should sticky a link to the TSA's you guys are talking about. Or atleast post one so other people can find it too. Edit to add: It was a lot easier to find than I thought. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1147.shtm I went to TSA.gov and there is a search box at the top. I searched parachute and vwala.

Wow! I think this is a typo It is a recognition that death is a natural part of life, not and end of everything. You meant "an" right?

You noobs. You do a rock drop a few seconds before you jump and then pitch when the rock impacts. Edit to add: That's why you make sure not to forget your didder.

Somebody shut this guy up

Another friend must PMed me that it was beautiful girls also. I had downloaded it a long time ago and wasn't sure how easy it would be to find on SDMovies... Thanks.

how bout a list of things base jumpers agree on ...

I can't wait until the next time I can afford to go to TF so I can ask you to show me what happened. I can't picture it. You are talking about slider off or control lines outside the slider right? -
The first time I heard about a PC being constricted by something, I thought of an O-Fck handle. A sling tied directly to your canopy attachment point routed out the same way as the bridle and velcroed in to the side of the rig, so if your pc was constricted, snagged something and was destroyed, bridle cut on something, ect... you could pull like your life depended on it on the O-Fck handle and try to get some canopy in the wind.

That stunt where they rear ended a car and did a horizontal header into the back of that trailer was amazing. Very impressive. I'm assuming it was all setup and intentional.

I heard that in the 96 Seattle incident Jessie was using gear from Gravity Sports, Dennis McGlynn's company. She was using the line-release mod, but had a Gravity Sports riser/toggle combo that had a safety recall issued on it. The problem was pretty straight-forward: one or both sides could fail to release in the event of a line-over (kinda defeats the purpose, eh?) I'm wondering if anyone rememers anything about this recall, mainly because I want to know how the toggle could get stuck if you are using the line release mod. The only thing I can think of is force pulling it up wouldn't let it be pulled our of the stub keeper. -

That explains why she never answerred my emails. She still hasn't answerred though. -
Skypuppy your still comparing skydiving gear to the 60's rounds. This is what they used for BASE. It was BASE gear. Has the sorcerrer had cutaways sub 200 feet? And is it the same technology as the sky hook? I think both of those are yes, but I'm not 100% sure.

base-canopy to fit into skydiving container (to skydive it)
d_goldsmith replied to mostwanted's topic in Archive
Not sure what POD means, but I'm assuming you mean deployment bag. You don't have to use one for a skydiving canopy either (i'm talking common sense not regulations, not sure about regulations). I think they help slow down the deployment. I know they prevent the canopy from hitting air until after line stretch -
I'm pretty sure he was joking. Like.... A blind baby rabbit was abandoned at birth and never knew what he was. One day he was walking along and bumped into a blind snake that had also been abandoned at birth and didn't know what he was. After talking for a second the snake offers to feel the rabbit and tell him what he is. The snake slivers all over the rabbit and says, your furry and you have long ears, you must be a rabbit. The rabbit thanks the snake and offers to do the same for him. He says, your slimy and you have no spine, so you must be french. I've heard an american joke about us only speaking one language, but I can't remember it.

Hey Mike, I've seen a lot of thank you's for posting, but haven't seen any of the well deserved ego boosting yet, so you're the man. It must have taken an insane desire to fly to chuck yourself off that rock with rounds, knowing that the cliff was right there and you were at the mercy of the wind after opening. I've been wondering, did you guys have belly flying experience, and were you familiar with tracking? And did you track on that jump? Since this is what you used for BASE gear, I see it as comparing BASE gear with BASE gear. These are my opinions of your comparisons 1.Other people have already covered this, but being able to put your pilot chute out into clean air is worth the risk of rigging malfunction, as long as you make sure you don't make a rigging malfunction. 2.The benefits of being able to fly your wing to a place of your choice (relative to wind obviously), and land it softly, make it worth using ram-air parachutes. The ability to lose a control line is a benefit because it can save your life if you have a control line over. 3.I also know how to PLF, that knowledge is still very valuable. As well as taking a fall in general and bracing for impact well. 4. I have seen Ray Losli and Marty Tilly do very nice pack jobs in under 15 minutes. I'm sure others can as well. 6. You mention that the extra control can be dangerous, but it is only dangerous in untrained or unexperienced/uncurrent hands. And again, you're tha man. Edited to remove my signature.

is dony permedi a base jumper?

I think a tard over might do the trick

Is that a 400 meter rope, or 400 meters of rope in total. If it's a 400 meter rope, how much does it way?

What's the hardest part about skydiving, telling your parents you're gay. note, i have no problem with skydiving, this is just for a laugh.
-
Not to mention if you're thinking you're high enough, you might underestimate the pressure your going to lose and then smoke in to the ground. (Another reason we use big ass parachutes)

When I was doing BASE specific canopy drills from CR library before getting in to BASE. I tried one riser one toggle landing on a Cruiselite 240. I havne't tried it with other canopies. My experience was that the toggle could only go down half way without turning. Maybe I needed to pull down on the riser more, but I was pretty sure if I pulled the riser more it would stall. I would keep the toggle for setting up landing, but land with both rears.
