I assumed he meant toggle setting. I had a semi hard landing on my black jack the first jump (not bad, just solid) and moved the toggles up one inch, and have had mainly soft landings since. I've got this really hardcore group of gaurdian angels that need a free paid vacation. ~Dan Osman

Someone posted that a few months ago. I think it was Jaap. I've got this really hardcore group of gaurdian angels that need a free paid vacation. ~Dan Osman

I didn't realize that in our case lift is rarely up, but more of an angle of up and the direction you are heading. Before this I always thought that tracking was purely based on drag force. Tom A sent me an awesome link that I learned a lot from. Especially the chunk on gliders. http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/bga.html I've got this really hardcore group of gaurdian angels that need a free paid vacation. ~Dan Osman

Hey look at me. I'm pretty sure that's the point of every forum. I've got this really hardcore group of gaurdian angels that need a free paid vacation. ~Dan Osman

Of course, you also thought lift was bad for flying. Well phrased personal attack (of course I don't think you should be banned for it)! If you try I'm sure you can understand what I meant and that is if you're moving down lift would = horizontal movement that's good, but if your moving horizontal lift would be negative vertical speed, and since you got no jets to keep you moving horizontal that wouldn't be good. I'm really tired, hopefully that makes sense. I've got this really hardcore group of gaurdian angels that need a free paid vacation. ~Dan Osman

I'd love to live on a cliff. I always figured when they came up with the name BASE (Carl, Phil, Jean, I can't remember off the top of my head who else), it was because that coverred everything on earth that you could jump off of. I like Nicks wind layout idea, but I would consider a damn a B because it was man made. my thoughts: a smokestack is a B a damn is a B a water tower is an A a power tower is an A a tree is an E a cooling tower is a B, hell a man made hole if lined with concrete would be a B, if lined with earth I'd say an E even though it was man made, it's still earth your jumping from. A man made cliff would be an E to in my book, as long as its not coverred with materials we put there. As far as logging purposes and BASE# purposes I could see where everyone is coming from though. Hopefully some people can explain the theories on wingsuit crafting a little more. I've heard of airfoils in the wingsuits, and that it improves performance, but I don't understand how? I figure lift is not a good thing. I thought that horizontal speed was caused by having more surface area on one side of your center of gravity and that drove you in the direction opposite the most surface area. And that with increased vertical speed your horizontal speed increased. It seems that if you had lift, when your horizontal speed got high enough the lift would actually slow the vertical speed from transitioning to horizontal speed and your horizontal momentum would die down until you either dipped head down to pick up more vertical speed or stalled and ended up subterminal again. There is probably more to this that I don't understand. Anyone care to share their ideas and or physical facts. Right on. I know exactly what that feels like A friend did most the work as far as access (I helped a lot), but I've jumped it twice now with no known witnesses.

I know a BASE jumper that got to hang out with him, learn from him and jump with him. And then recently saw another BASE jumper post about jumping with him, and just now found out that another BASE jumper I have met was there when he died and jumped the system right before he died. I'm wondering if anyone else got to jump with him or learn from him, and/or if anyone has any stories they want to share?

I emailed them this: Hi there, Is the skywalk complete yet? When will people be able to go out on to it? How big is the wall that keeps you from falling? I have two kids. and got this back: Thank you for your email regarding Grand Canyon West and The Skywalk at Grand Canyon West. May I ask how you heard about The Skywalk? The glass wall is about 5ft high on the sides. The public should be able to access the glass bridge March 28, 2007.I have attached the latest press release announcing the Grand Opening of The Skywalk. I've included overnight accommodation information as well as attached a description on the Grand Canyon Overnight Express Package. Grand Canyon West has some great things to see and do. There are helicopter tours to the bottom of the Canyon with boat rides on the river, off road Hummer Tours, an Indian Village with cultural performances, horse back riding and lunch on the canyon rim with the best view imaginable. -------------------- So we might be able to get out via helicopter, horse, boat, and Hummer.

I'm pretty sure is Osman. I searched osman and osmond on google and the majority returned stuff under osman, i did find one under osmond though. I just noticed that my rope incident report link wasn't working. The link is at the bottom of this wiki page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Osman Edit to add: "Dan Osman's Rope Failure Analysis - Possible cause for his death" under External Links

Dan Osman. I'm glad he's getting more notoriety. I read a rope failure report that was done by Chris Harmston at Black Diamond. Apparently NPS said that no one was allowed to touch the ropes, but they were just leaving the ropes there and not retreiving them to investigate, so some climber got the ropes and sent them to Black Diamond. The guy at black diamond has amazing credentials, material engineering degree and lots of rope experience, and his conclusion was that the ropes were in outstanding condition (he said he would have climbed with them), but that Dan choosing a new launch point caused a rope to cross that the system wasn't designed for and it rubbed (nylon on nylon) and melted through. I don't know how he would have known for sure that Dan chose a new launch point, but I had read that before on a forum about the incident. Hopefully the DZ local that was on Dan's crew will read this report and let us (or atleast me) know what he thinks of it. http://adventureguides.com.au/PDFs/Dan%20Osman%20Rope%20Failure%20Analysis.pdf

I don't know if you'll even end up reading this, but right on man.

Good idea. Thanks. I haven't heard anything from them yet. I should probably email them to make sure they got the letter and check.

I forgot to say happy new years from Pacific time and that I met a few Texas locals at the Perrine on Memorial Day weekend, but not sure what part of Texas they were from. Britany, Dave and Amanda I think?

I'm shipping out to boot camp in March and then on to Fort Sams in San Antonio from May until September (combat medic training). I won't have internet access in March, and am not sure when I'll have it again, so I'm hoping I can make some local contacts early. Anyone that thinks they will still live within 100 miles of San Antonio between May and September, if you PM me your phone number before March I'll owe you beer, GC, ect... I'll have weekends off and I'm pretty sure I will have a cell phone and transportation, but doubt I will be able to access the internet often other than maybe ocationally an internet cafe. Thanks for sharing that link. There was a lot of video on there I hadn't seen. I knew Dan Osman was the man, but fuck! I got chills watching most of that. Greeny looked amazing.

Thanks Jeb, now I'm just wondering if it was vertex or DP. Don't really care that much though. The shots of him under canopy are so fake looking that it's almost funny, but it's not. Tom, I leave for bootcamp in March, don't get back from AIT until September. (Combat Medic) I'll make sure to hook you up with some other locals though before I go. I bet some of them will see this and PM you.

I bet it took a long time to type all that

Anyone know the height of #17 and the distance from the highest point to the bottom of the talus (from the camera angle). Can you clear all that talus tracking?

Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
