  1. Here's how I cracked a rib a few years ago. CLICKY Live and learn...Duh! (or should that be learn and live?) It'll heal. Get well soon!
  2. The AirBoss is heading to Fl to pick up a car. And Streaker and I are heading there for a conference. Where will you guys be from the 10 the 15? Hey, Beth! We'll be hanging around Fort Meyers for a coupe of days, I don't know what we're doing after that; just galavanting Planning to head to Atlanta around the 13th.
  3. Damn! I'm such a Loser. I didn't get to meet any of you guys. I was pretty much in vacation mode and didn't read the threads in this forum until now. Oh well, did any of you happen to come by on new year's eve while we had the big projection screen on the back of my RV? I'm in Fort Meyers now, it's warm and sunny. Not looking forward to returning to Illinois at all!
  4. Hey DannyDan! Thanks for the info, Phreez ... I'm PM'd sundevil777 ... waiting for a reply.
  5. Last summer I was on the first DC9 load at the WffC and got a picture of the jumper who exited right after me, but I don't know who he is. I'm attaching a picture in the hope that one of you might recognize him so that we might get in touch. Thanks.
  6. Ditto. For tandems I have nice results with the sports basic mode which uses AI-Servo ... plus it uses continuous shooting. Since I'm most interested in the shots I get at hi-five distance, focus is not a problem and works well for the exits. The biggest drawback is that in basic mode, the XT forces auto ISO, so I end up with ISO at 400 usually; not a problem for the tandem customer, but I have some great shots that won't pass muster when submitted to stock photo houses because of the noise. I also really dislike how loose the 18-55 kit lens focusing ring gets when in manual focus mode when the servo is disengaged - it's all over the place.
  7. It's been almost two years since I retired. I'm fortunate in that I can still work part time (when I feel like it ) making pretty good money, plus I have full health coverage thanks to my previous employer. I think it would be very difficult at this stage, for reasons others have pointed out, to make a living out of skydiving. Nevertheless, you shouldn't find it too difficult to make yourself useful enough at almost any DZ so that you can at least break even. I hang out at a very small DZ and my jumping has very little effect on my budget because I have a coach rating, a rigger ticket, and I'm a photographer. Those three skills are enough to keep me very busy JUMPING at my tiny DZ.
  8. WAAAAAHAHAHAHA! Thanks for the link
  9. Never leave your logbook, cell-phone, camera, or anything unattended that can be readily edited, reconfigured, or misused at the dropzone. Not even for five minutes.
  10. Not if you're a DZM, DZO, or S&TA who have observed the skill level of an individual and found them wonting when they're trying to wingsuit, downsize, fly a camera helmet, VRW, raft dive, etc. Their screwup falls on your head. True, it's selfish to not want someone else' damage or death on your hands. Sometimes people need to be saved from themselves. True ... that's a good point. We all have to be selfish once in a while. Nothing wrong with that.
  11. That's the whole point of an Air Carrier Certificate!!! That's not what I said! You left out the part about ZERO RISK [:D] My point is that I and many jumpers I know think the King Air is SAFE ENOUGH because if they make it much safer we won't be jumping out of it anymore!
  12. Ignoring them is stupid. Considering them, and using them to calculate the risks you are willing to take is responsilbe. Blindly adhering to them without making an effort to include them in your risk analysis, is complaisance. Forcing others to accept your own personal risk assessment is selfish.
  13. I don't want to belittle, in any way, the dedicated people who work at the FAA. They have a job to do, and they do it very well. But ... I think that the regulations have gotten to the point that they mostly benefit lawyers and whuffo citizens who expect the government to ensure that (1) we will eventually achieve zero risk in everything we do, and (2) that when anything goes wrong, some regulation will make it perfectly clear who they can blame. I'm not a pilot, or a DZO; just a jumper. For me the answer is quite simple. I sign and initial the waiver at every DZ. I think the waiver says that I expect nothing. All I want is for them to take me to altitude and let me jump out of their plane. If it's safe enough for the pilot, then it's safe enough for me. It's really about what pilots, aircraft owners, and DZO's can and can't do, isn't it?
  14. Looks like that is for the Para-Flight, Inc MAIN canopies, not for the swift reserve.
  15. It's entirely possible that DickHead just earned a Loser number!

It will be the only true alternative to the WFFC for 2007! We will be jumping over Rantoul from a PAC750 and a Biplane August 10, 11, and 12! Sponsored by the Pathetic Losers Skydiving Team. Really! PayPal

I've been using PayPal accounts for years. I use their credit card merchant accounts, and have several web sites that do shopping cart transactions through PayPal and I have no complaints. What, exactly, is your problem?
  19. WooHoo!! And what a great time that was! It was great to see you Saturday ... it's too bad I had to head for Fort Worth the next morning Anyway, Debbie and I are in Fort Worth now (my mom is doing GREAT). I'm planning on heading down to Granbury tomorrow morning and do some jumps ... it's been raining like crazy here, so I hope the Granbury airport isn't underwater Indeed! It's soooo cool that you're planning to join us at the Flatville Freefall Convention and wedding jamboree Debbie and I are planning to attend Summerfest too this year, so we'll get to party with you guys the week before (Debbie LUVs Margarooties). In case anyone is wondering why we keep saying that our new DZ is basically like jumping at Rantoul, attached is a picture I took recently in freefall directly above Illinois Skydiving Center
  20. Well, for us (The Locals), the alternative will be a nice small boogie with a PAC 750XL to celebrate the marriage of the DZO's of our brand new DZ (PRIVATE air strip!) that is just 4.5 miles from Rantoul (Flatville, IL)! The WFFC may be toast for this year, but we are still going to be jumping from a turbine within sight of Rantoul this summer. It's the Flatville FreeFall Convention (FFFC), August 10,11,12, 2007! We only need a couple dozen jumpers to get the plane doing loads for a few days before and after this weekend! Or you can drive 90 miles north and go to Summerfest. I'll be there. Then you can follow me home and jump with us! :-D
