  3. Ha! It reminds me of a story: One day, a few years ago, it was getting close to dinner time, and I was still at work. The phone rang and it was my wife. Debbie says, "When are you coming home?" Thinking I was in trouble again, I replied, "Just leaving now, dear." D: "Great! Hurry up, we're having smothered rabbit for dinner; it's almost ready. "Just hurry up and come home, I'm hungry!" I got home and entered the house. It smelled GREAT! Me: "WTF? Where the hell did you get that" D: "Squeek brought it home." (Squeek was our cat ... ) Me: "You mean, we're having ROAD KILL for dinner?" D: "No. Silly! It was very fresh. Squeek just killed it. She had just brought it in to the garage. She was very proud of herself, and she really wanted me to watch her eat it. The head was gone, so I grabbed the body and felt that it was still warm inside. Me: D: I looked on the web for instructions on how to skin a rabbit and also found a recipe for "smothered rabbit." This is a true story. REALLY! The smothered rabbit was great. Debbie and Squeek were both very proud of themselves. I call my wife "EllieMay" now.
  4. Have you spoken to your local animal control people? Many jurisdictions have laws against abandoning pets that way. If it's against the law there and you turn them in, the person who abandoned the animal should get a citation and have to at least pay a fine.
  5. I think you'll probably get a variety of opinions on this one. I have a rule that I follow strictly - to never show raw footage to the client. There is a lot of stuff that people say (or do) while you are recording that can prove very embarrassing to somebody. I do NLE on all of my work so in my case, at a very small DZ, it works out because the client doesn't get their video right away and I feel better that their first view of my work is a finished, edited product. I've never had a client request raw footage yet, but I don't think I would do it unless they requested it before the jump; then I would be much more careful about recording. My finished DVD's are given to the student under the Creative Commons Attribution - Share Alike (US) license, so they can basically do whatever they want with it, as long as they do it in accordance with the license. Edited: Oh and of course they are permitted to "edit or re-edit the video then place on the web with cr music" as long as they get permission/license from the other CC holder to do it and not in any way that suggests that I endorse them or their use of my work.
  6. You LIVE in Cancun? I'm very sorry to hear that. You must have one of those dirty, rotten jobs.
  7. I don't use a flash, but I'd like to start sometime. I do enjoy the challenge of trying to get good shot's with natural lighting. The only reason I haven't started using a flash, is because I'd want to use one with lot's of power, and that probably means putting more snag points on my helmet and definitely more money Since I'm already using a Bonehead optik with video and still, adding a flash would probably really complicate matters. I think I'd rather get a new helmet first so that everything will fit better
  8. Yes! 1990 Black Corvette, black leather interior?
  9. Yeppers! I started getting them every year about ten years ago and I rarely get the flu anymore.
  10. Hey! That's my image It's from Mollie's wedding at WFFC 2005 ... I must say, Johnny was looking quite dapper that day
  11. I'd follow and pray for it to rain before the dashed lines come.
  12. Yes ... I wasn't really aiming my remarks at you, I know that you understand all of the semantic details. I come across people all of the time who think it's no big deal to sync a music piece to their video because they or the client have purchased the CD, or downloaded a song from the net, assuming it is "public domain". There are many other justifications I've heard for it. It was less dangerous to rationalize when it was just VHS tapes, but now we have YouTube and the RIAA. People need to realize that it might become pretty important for them to "read the fine print" before they distribute a sync'd vidi to a tandem client that turns around and uploads it to YouTube. That could turn out to be a very expensive deal for them and their DZ.
  13. Well, no not really. Just take your camera everywhere you go when you're not skydiving and practice the art of photography. It will help you gain the basic knowledge that you'll need in order to plan the settings you'll need before you make the jumps. Remember, your camera doesn't know the difference between a skydive and a ground shot. The same principles apply whether you're taking pictures of boring things in your back yard or stuff in freefall. It's easier/cheaper to practice and learn in your back yard, that's all. All things being equal if you want to "calibrate" your techniques to freefall, keeping a high shutter speed is your most important constraint.
  14. Just to be clear: It's not the fact that the works are copyrighted that's the problem. What these sources provide is the license you need to legally use them the way you need to. In the case of tandem vidi's, you have to be licensed to synchronize the music into your video and the copyright holder has to also give you license to use it for commercial purposes.
  15. That is why I love cats. They taste like chicken!
  16. Damn! ... I just now got around to seeing your post. Just for reference, some of my stock photos are HERE Edited: Hey one of those (the background one in the upper half - "Flying High") was mine!! Ha Ha! I shoulda check yer PDF before posting I can understand why you wouldn'd like it ... it's really just a stock photo that appeals to whuffos rather than skydivers If you decide to use it, I'll buy yer book.
  17. Phree has the right idea. I abandoned the practice of using music without sync licensing on my tandem vidi's. I have found several decent tracks on JAMENDO.COM and at INCOMPETECH. This allows me to use the Creative Commons License on my DVD's, making it perfectly legal for the client to post them on YouTube if they want to along with the soundtrack.
  18. That one looks to me like it's worth at least $20K It's sunny, dry, and 7 °F right now, and expected to soar to a high of 15 °F. Fegedabadit!
  19. I'll bet that car can move without the engine running.
  20. Oh! OK. I didn't even notice the vidi the first time I clicked on that.
