  1. I switched to diet soda when I was 18 and lost 30 pounds my freshman year in college- a time when traditionally girls put on weight! That was a long time ago and the media is just now focusing on soda as one of the causes for the "Obesity Epidemic" in America as well as the increase in diabetes cases. Its bad stuff ......... I had my session with my trainer last night, mostly arms and abs. He wanted to weigh me and I told him not to bother - I know I've been "bad" lately and gained about 2 pounds. We hosted a birthday party for my step daughter over the weekend and I made and ate a ton of food, not to mention all the wine and stuff! Turkey and mole- yum! I'm not stressing about it though because I am still on the right track. But I know with the holiday season quickly approaching, I need to watch my day to day eating habits so I've got room for the splurges!
  2. Apparently, one of our local newpapers ran the story about being a little bit overwieght being OK while the competition ran a story about the obesity epidemic in America. Some moron on a local radio news show thought the 2 stories were completely contradictory. I guess she didn't understand the difference between being 20 pounds overweight and obese, which seems to be a pretty common problem in this country.
  3. I'm not saying a canopy collapse can't happen, but we know the majority of skydiving incidents are due to "pilot error" and not equipment malfunction or turbulence. So, yeah, since the point of the OP seemed to be annoyance at spreading mis-information about the sport, that's what jumped out at me as far as the part of the story I would question.
  4. Well, I've never seen a full episode, but I have to say that it has to be the stupidest show on television right now and I can't believe it has lasted as long as it has. Didn't they have two full seasons of planning and finally breaking out of prison, then a season of them "on the run" and now they're back in another prison planning a whole new breakout? And people actually watch this???
  5. I've done the same thing. Its easier to get in the tub with them and a bathing suit does protect at least part of your body from scratches if the cat starts to struggle.
  6. Actually, the craziest part of the story is the sudden "canopy collapse" at 100 feet.
  7. You do it very carefully. Some cats are more tolerant than others, but it sounds like you already know yours won't like her bath too much! Good luck!
  8. Its pretty cool when you actually start to see the results from your workouts. That alone is enough to keep me motivated most of the time.
  9. Or fly to Huatulco and take a 2 hour bus ride (less than $10.00) or a more expensive taxi ride- (about $50.00) Depending on where you are coming from, you might be able to find a direct flight to Huatulco at that time of the year, otherwise you'll connect in Mexico City and its about a 45 minute flight from there.
  10. Not even a little! And even if there was, I wouldn't say!
  11. This is a fitness thread! Get you mind out of the gutter! Must I clarify this? My MUSCLES (specifically gluts) are sore from 2 days of leg presses, squats and lunges. No butt secks involved!
  12. I did hard core legs with my trainer on Wednesday and thought a Boneira class (Brazilian martial arts done "Ballys style"- lots of kicks, lunges and squats with some dance and cardio thrown in) would be a good idea last night! Geez- my butt is sore today! doh!

    new ipod..

One huge advantage the Nano has is the price- they are very affordable now. Costco has the 4gb Nanos for around $140.00 now. The 80gb probably costs at least twice that.
  14. I picked up (or just finally gave in to......) a cold over the weekend- felt like crap all day Sunday and most of the day Monday, so I didn't workout on Monday night, but I did workout Tuesday and worked out pretty hard with my trainer last night. I felt a million times better after the workouts and I think the fact that I'm in better shape over all has really shortened the duration of my cold. I'm usually feeling crappy for a lot longer than 2 days. Of course the bad news is Halloween, candy, office pot lucks, hormones, etc...... Hopefully, I can behave and control my eating at least between now and Thanksgiving!

The nano is great for working out and stuff, but they fill up quicker than you realize. I started with a 4gb nano then treated myself to a 30gb with part of my tax return last year. I like the nano for the gym but my SO keeps stealing it! The larger one is kind of awkward when I am working out, and the nano is the perfect size! He says I'm greedy to keep both, I say he should get his own. I don't take his expensive toys!
  16. My advice- START SLOW! Start on the treadmill and work your way up to the elliptical, because it is tough, especially at first! Add in some strength training but do it gradually. If you do too much too soon, you'll hurt yourself or just burn yourself out. You should be fine with 45 mintues to and hour 3 days a week. And don't overdo the cardio but DO get a little help/ guidance with the weights and strength training. If you can swing it financially, hire a trainer for a few sessions or more but you'll probably get more out of the sessions AFTER you get your body used to the cardio and stuff first. Money is an issue for me, and I like to make the most of my time with my trainer. I warm up before our sessions but I take care not to wear myself out- that's HIS job!
  17. My guess is any man who lives with cats can identify with this story!
  18. Yeah, a WTF Moment- I've been there before. I wouldn't expect that from someone in my "circle" of friends and aquaintances, but not everyone was brought up the same. Her parents probably tossed that word around like it was nothing when she was growing up. Not an excuse, I still agree with the "trash" assessment! At some point you need to grow up and start thinking for yourself!
  19. I've got to agree with the "trash" comment, but I wouldn't be offended either for myself or my dog. A term like that (now that I know what it means- never heard it before) says a whole lot more about the person who said it than whoever or whatever she was referring to. People like that aren't worth getting upset over. It does suck when you are forced to spend time with someone like that just because she's the wife or GF of someone you actually enjoy spending time with. Maybe the husband will get smart and dump the trashy ho!
  20. You're not supposed to wash your stoneware either. (Pizza stones or baking sheets) I usually will usually wash mine, but we have a friend who has two pizza stones he uses for just about anything- cookies, dinner rolls, whatever. He tries to keep one for the sweet stuff and the other for pizza and more "savory" foods. He will NOT wash them!
  21. I have a garlic press but I almost never even think to use it. I don't mind chopping garlic, and when its cooked properly the larger pieces don't taste too strong anyway.
  22. The ellipticals are definitely "more bang for the buck", and depending on HOW you use them, you can get some strength training in on them as well. I use a Life Fitness model at my gym. And boy do I remember the first time I tried one and couldn't even go 10 minutes without feeling like I was going to keel over and die! Take it slow, you'll get there! And don't let the yoga lady intimidate you either!
  23. Trust me, I am happy with my progress, but that's just what it is. And I'm Ok with the pace as well. I do have more actual pounds to lose, not just fat but I will ALWAYS have curves. At one point, I had a set number/ goal in mind but now I'm more concerned with how I feel and how my clothes fit. Still, the scale helps me keep an eye on if my eating gets out of control etc. As far as balance and proportion, I hear you! I spent months mainly doing cardio on the ellipitical- that did a lot for my lower body, not as much for my upper body. Working with a trainer has really helped balance things out.
