The Dark Tower (Stephen King, last of the series) and I've been dragging it out for months. I must not want it to be over because I am enjoying the book and usually I have a hard time putting a good book down!

The real question is- what kind of cockroach infested dive was this hotel that only charged $25.00 a night?
-
Peanut Butter, honey and banana YES! Peanut butter JELLY and banana- that's just wrong!
-
3 jumpers, 3 landing directions? You don't see a problem with that?
-
The first was sort of a rhetorical question. I know the importance of a flight plan, and what concerned me most about the post was the fact that he seemed to be determining his pattern and landing direction while he was in the air. That's way more scary to me than a downwinder, especially if there was anyone else in the air with him.

You can just as easily say that about women. Dating is tough! If you show too much too soon (whether its confidence or vulnerabilty or anything in between) you run the risk of scaring the other person off before you've really had a chance to get to know them. Its better to start slow and casual- afternoon coffee instead of dinner, that kind of thing!
-
Well, first mistake- on a no wind/ low wind day, aren't you supposed to determine the landing direction and pattern before you even board the plane? Or were you in the air all by yourself?
-
There's a difference between being a "nice guy" and a doormat, just like there is a difference between being confident and being cocky. I think most women want nice independent confident guys. Contrary to the "nice guy whine" we hear so often, we really don't want cocky jerks who treat us like crap! If you think you are being "too nice" to get or keep a girlfriend, chances are you are being too needy or too submissive instead.

It was definitely rude of her not to at least call, but I'd think back to that telephone conversation on Thursday. My guess is something was said that made her think twice about dating you. And it could have been ANYTHING, not necessarily something bad. Each of us carries around a certain amount of baggage that sometimes makes us hesitant to start new relationships, and because of that, it doesn't always take much to scare someone off. (And that doesn't apply exclusively to women, either!)

Doesn't matter, they are loaded with protein and when you have one with milk, most of the protein and calcium are absorbed. (or so I've heard- it's one of those perfect food combos!)

Looks like a scam artist is trolling the classifieds

Explain to her that you'll refund the difference in the same manner payment was originally made. ie a fake cashier's check! -
I haven't "taken a break" but my jumping has slowed down considerably over the past few years for a lot of the reasons in your post. DZ politics made it not so fun, buying a house made it not so feasible financially and there are other things to do out there! Do what you feel is right for you! 50 jumps a year is plenty to stay current, but maybe not enough to advance in the sport.

There used to be a link on my dz's website.

He was Cordelia's boyfriend from another dimension on Angel, right?

Sometimes necessary? Absolutely! So main stream, they use billboard advertising on major expressways? Puhleeze! The ads are for shock value. I wonder how much business they actually bring in.
-
I don't know, I used to pass that Who's the Father billboard regularly- there is one (or used to be) on I55 on the way out of downtown Chicago. TRUST ME- I don't have any need for that service, but the billboard still catches my eye!
-
I've seen the billboards and froma marketing standpoint, I don't get it. Billboards advertise to the masses. You're driving and you see a giant Bacardi and coke, think "umm, that looks good" so you go home and make yourself one, or you make a note to buy more rum. How many people are driving along, pass THAT billboard and think, "Oh yeah, I've been meaning to call someone about that DNA test!" ? Is there that big of a market for DNA testing to determine paternity? Is this really what society has become?

Union Station is confusing. It took me awhile too. And FYI- for the out of towners, its a HUGE train station -actually has entrances 4 city blocks apart! Amtrak and at least 2 different commuter lines use the station.

I think some of us were suggesting a little safe "padding" in case of unusual traffic. Of course, that's only really important on the return trip when he's got a car to return and a train to catch! I can make it to the dz from Berwyn in a little over an hour, and at least 10 minutes of that is getting to 55. When I lived on the north side, 75 minutes was about right since the expressway was really close.
-
Well of course it is, but sometimes just driving around the block is a pain. I used to drive downtown a lot. When I lived on the northside, it would take me longer to get to the expressway from the parking garage (about a mile straight down Madison) than it would to go the 30 some blocks on the expressway. edited for typos and spelling!
-
Are you going to have a car or ride waiting for you? I'd give myself 2 hours each way just to be safe, plus dealing with downtown traffic just to get on the expressway can be a bi*ch! Sunday night shouldn't be a problem at all BUT I'd still give myself at least 2 hours.

A close friend just lost her 18 year old son to suicide. I'm as confused as you are. I hope you find some answers, and some peace. My condolences! maura

My predictions (not based on any inside information so take it with a grain of salt!) Tony and Michelle will reconcile by the end of the day but at least one of them will put his or her life on the line and its *possible* that only one of them will survive the day. More likely, faced with the prospect of losing each other again, they'll admit they still love each other and want to be together! (sappy, I know!) Palmer's going to kick some a$$ over the next few hours- no big secret that he'll be the guy behind the scenes making decisions for the wimpy VPeee/ new Pres. Someone (Marwan? or who he's working with/ for) will learn of his role and he'll become a target again. Other predictions: They'll probably neutralize the nuclear threat in next week's episode (otherwise the timeline doesn't make sense since the bomb is supposed to go off on the east coast before dawn) but Marwan will have something else up his sleeve to keep everyone busy for the next few hours! Oh, and Edgar is the mole! (There's always a mole, right?) Cloe will catch him, he'll kill Cloe, then kill himself out of guilt (and also because he's secretly in love with Cloe and can't live without her!)
