You could be on to something there! I was thinking the beligerant "Don't talk to me, I know what I'm doing attitude" Followed by "Its not my fault- no one told me this wasn't safe because I'M so Freakin' HOT they just forgot to mention it!"
-
I think there will always be girls who get into skydiving for all the wrong reasons- like because of one guy or to meet guys in general. I see them come and go at my dz and they usually don't last too long in the sport. Those are the ones who tend to be the attention seeking drama queens, though. And there is a male equivalent too. The problem with them is they tend to be the ones in it for the adrenaline rush, the ones who downsize too fast, don't listen to anyone and complain they are being picked on when people TRY to tell them to be careful. What's really ironic is your poll seems be be inspired by someone who was a little bit of both!

This site certainly seems to attract some Attention Hos- NOT exclusively female. I'm not sure if that's an internet thing or a skydiving thing, to be honest!

How are you going to hop around on crutches, use a wheelchair or even just keep your balance if you knee and shoulder are out of comission at the same time? Why would you do that to yourself voluntarily? I would think you would lengthen and maybe even jeapordize the healing process for both!

It SUCKS to be this HOT sometimes! People are so distracted by my HOTNESS they forget to tell me stuff I need to know!

So.......did you ever feel like you had everything you ever wanted?

Could it be your taste in women? You've got two great kids and that's more than many of us will ever have! -
What "talk" do bowlers give someone that is a danger in the bowling alley?
tigra replied to LawnDart21's topic in The Bonfire
Have you noticed that the bowlers with cameras are the ones that get all the chicks? -
I just got some garlic pistachios from Costco! Yum! They had chile and lemon too, but it was a 3 pound bag and I thought that was overkill!

Take a break for a while, but don't sell your ball and shoes! Maybe take that First Ball Class again with a more thorough instructor, one who takes your safety seriously! But remember, ultimately its up to YOU to become the safest bowler you can be! Other bowlers are counting on you not to throw your ball in their lane or drop it on their toes!

I'm sorry to hear about your friends. Just to clarify though, are you saying she fell off the cart because she was intoxicated and not because he was driving recklessly? And she was unlucky enough to hit her head on the concrete hard enough to kill her? That's really tragic and hopefully the tox screens will support that. Its too bad that HE failed the field sobriety test though. I don't think the authorities had much choice but to take some kind of action. I hope things work out for him- this is something he will have to live with for the rest of his life but if it was truly and accident with no negligence whatsoever, he shouldn't have to face criminal charges on top of everything else! (I'm surprised there aren't more golf cart accidents at my dz, to be honest! People who wouldn't drive a car drunk think nothing of cruising around the campground after a few drinks, and people like me think nothing of hitching a ride back to the trailer or bathroom!)

Ignorant people piss me off too. I'm just offering a couple of legal and non violent solutions! Think about it-an announcement in the middle of a KMart? If you didn't think that would shame him/her enough to take care of the dog, you could have lied and said the lights were on or it was getting towed- that would make the owner come running in a heartbeat. Just a thought. I see dogs in cars all the time, but not when its this hot, and not without the windows cracked open!
-
As long as you aren't talking about oral prostrate massages! That would be icky!
-
Let me guess- the Race Card thread?
-
You could have walked into the KMart and asked the person at the service desk to page the owner of the vehicle. If I was working at the service desk (something I used to do once upon a time at a nother large retail store) and you had explained the situation to me, I would have made the page. If I mentioned the dog in my page, there would have been a store full of angry people waiting for the guy too! You moral outrage is kind of pointless since you yourself did nothing to help. There were ways to help without resorting to violence or breaking the law.
-
Option B- call the cops and leave. Or option C- walk into the store and report it. Or option D- both. Call the cops and let the store manager know. Instead, you vented your anger without doing anything to help the poor dog.

A top 40 mix webcast. Lots of old stuff. Not bad background music, I guess.

You may be on to something. I hear men's testosterone levels fluctuate wildly throughout any given day! Us women are on a much more predictable cycle!
-
THANK YOU! The flip side is there are guys who are in the sport strictly for the adrenaline and the "cool factor". They generally think they know everything, theya re difficult to approach, take too many risks, etc. One way or another, their skydiving careers don't tend to last long unless they undergo an attitude adjustment! Then there are guys who love the sport, hunger for knowledge, seek advice and ask questions. Those GUYS become competent safe skydivers.

Its both, and there's a lot more that goes into how you are treated at the DZ than whether you are male or female. I've seen men and women get "special treatment" and mentoring. I've also seen men and women no one wants to jump with. But I will agree its true that the cute girl who comes to the DZ once a month or so to do a skydive (barely current, minimal skills) is more likely to get invited on a load or even just a 2 way with an experienced jumper than the guy who does the same thing. THAT is something I have seen more than once.
-
I think there have been at least two threads like this in the Women's forum. Bottom line, there are different ways of being treated differently, there are different reasons behind it, and as you said, sometimes its good and sometimes it isn't. But don't kid yourself that it only happens to women! The assertion that someone's inital AFF training was substandard because she's "cute" is still insulting at best. I'm sure her instructors really appreciated being trashed like that on the internet!

Blue Skies Roger! Like eeneR, I remember that last day so clearly because he was just having so much fun! So many stories, so many memories! I don't think anyone could meet Roger and walk away unaffected. You might hate him, you might love him, maybe a little of both! I don't know a single person that knew Roger who was indifferent towards him, that's for sure!

Skydive Chicago, Ottawa - where to stay
tigra replied to snafuhere's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Why don't you email them directly and see if there is a bunkhouse, team rooms or empty trailers available for rent? They should also have information available from the local chamber of commerce. Who knows? You might find a B&B or a room to rent in town that is better for you. There are also some inexpensive hotels depending on how fussy you are and how much you want to spend.
