Move from smoking office to non smoking office
tigra replied to meridianjumper's topic in The Bonfire
It been over 10 years since people were allowed to smoke in offices around here! Sometimes people will sneak smokes in their offices after hours as if anyone else working doesn't smell it! NASTY! Yes, it could very well be a form of detox! Would that be a bad thing? -
I hear ya! Its a combination of office politics and blackmail. If you want the sales assistants to do a better job in the future, you need to bribe them, huh? If you don't contribute, you get a rep at your new job for being stingy. (Not that you are- $50.00 is freakin' ridiculous!) I've had stuff like that at my office and sometimes I give in to the peer pressure and pay up, others times I do not. And to be honest, I have no problem with the girl scout cookies or wrapping paper or that kind of thing. (Even baby showers!) But pitching in for stuff like birthdays and secretary's day (when I have no secretary of my own and no one does anything for MY birthday) really irks me!

When is the right time for buying a gear?

Sounds like you bought your gear at the right time! -
Ever fell like the biggest F'up in the sky?
tigra replied to BlindBrick's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Skydivers can be pretty blunt. Try to ignore the comments or work on thickening that skin of yours! I know that's easier said than done! I know a woman who had a string of cutaways very early in her skydiving career. Maybe 4 or 5 before she had 200 jumps. All legitimate malfunctions (she never packed for herself) but I don't think she's had any since. And hell yeah, we gave her some grief about it, but she took it pretty well! -

Not me! I was just waiting for someone to make the comment! -

Me neither! Glad someone finally got to it! -

No, I don't think you are so small you'll have a problem finding a suit that fits properly, nor should you have any major fall rate issues. They keep student jumpsuits in a variety of sizes and they work just fine for *most* students. -

Well, there's gear and then there's gear. Its not too soon to invest in a pair of goggles. They are inexpensive, and your own goggles can really add to the comfort and enjoyment of your student jumps. If you're a problematic faller (too slow or too fast) or a lot larger or smaller than average, you might think about a custom jumpsuit sooner rather then later, but that's something to talk about with your jumpmasters after a few AFP or AFF jumps. After you graduate, most DZs are slightly less generous about loaning out stuff like helmets and altimeters so you'll want your own. Aside from that, I think you should take a little time once you are off student status to learn about the different types of parachutes and containers there are. A complete parachute system is expensive, especially if you order brand new. You should take some time and do the research to make sure you get what works best for you. (Not too much time because renting gear can get expensive really fast!) -

I think you are being hard on yourself. You executed emergency procedures and saved your own ass. Are you still being "hazed" by someone at your dz? -

If it wasn't for the weird khaki green, I'm sure she would have gone with it!

You're lucky they aren't pushing you forward towards ellyptical pizzas just because you are a hot chick!

Out of the 4, I like D, the more color the better. But why not make the whole container blue? Do something slightly different?
-
Thanks!

I think you'll be very happy with a Wings container, but I can't help but wonder if the only thing in skydiving that sparks your interest is wing suit flying-something you haven't even tried yet- why are you still jumping? What is it that you no longer get out of skydiving that you once did? And why do you think flying a wing suit is the answer? Before I put a lot of cash into a custom contianer, I'd ask myself those questions and think long and hard about my answers. There's no shame in leaving the sport if the love for it is no longer there.

Hi Hector! I made a couple with you yesterday. A 6 way that didn't work too well, then a 5 way you filmed. (Both with Billy Weber.) We're already home as well, but make sure you call manifest and let them know to look for your logbook! I enjoyed the jumps, but was hoping to see the video. (Jim said he'd try and get a copy......) It was great to meet you and jump with you! maura

You know, when I was younger and backpacking through Europe, I spent the night at more than a few train stations. My clothes weren't clean, I doubt I was freshly showered, I *might* have been drinking cheap wine and I'm sure plenty of travelers and commuters found me annoying. But I didn't get kicked out and the only place I was remotely hassled was in what was then known as Yugoslavia. (you know, back when it was a communist country?) I'm sorry the homeless are so offensive to you but that really wasn't the point of the original post. It was yet another example of the Patriot Act being abused. Big surprise there!

Why oh why did I read that??

You win!

No, I need to avoid speaking and reading French because I'm trying to learn Spanish. The French I learned when I was much younger (and mostly forgot) has a way of creeping back in!

I got spanked once. The organizer was giving me grief (in a friendly supportive way!) for not getting into the formations, and being too timid on my approach. Well, we were doing an 8 way and I was just getting ready to dock, but I guess he decided I took too long so he flew behind me, pulled me out of it and spanked my ass! Its a shame it wasn't on video because it was really funny! (everyone tells me the look on my face and his as he snuck around me were priceless!)

That or just -cuz Canadian guys can't spell! Isn't a "Jalousy" some kind of shutter for your window?

Gee- I got a hug and a free pack job for my hundreth (but I did buy a case of green bottled beer) and got to be on a 4 point 20 way (plus more hugs) for my 500th. No pie. I think pie is only appropriate for 1,000 and any triple zero after that.
