  1. That's if it occurs to the jumper to use that solution to the problem. On suits that use the Roberts cutaway system, jumpers are generally taught to use the cutaway for one of 3 reasons. Paraphrased in no particular order. 1. Stuck zipper 2. Speed to release arms in the event of an "interesting" opening 3. Kill wings to return to box position if struggling to control flight. It may be worth adding 4. If your handles get sucked into your suit to my future 1st flight BM/PF students (Now there's the power of speculation!) t It's the year of the Pig.
  2. Wrong facts. You're out about 900 years if we're thinking of the same Mohammed. 2 others have pointed this out - but you seem to be ignoring them. t It's the year of the Pig.
  3. Yup. $300 sounds OK. If you put a new lineset on it (Don't go and wait the 100 jumps in case they're wrong about that) you should be able to sell it for $300 in about 150 - 200 jumps time when you're done transisioning. I buy all my canopies in this range when they need a reline. They have plenty of life left on them, are cheap, easy to pack, open great and don't depreciate much. I usually keep them for 600 - 800 dives, reline and sell for what I paid. About $300. That gives me 600 - 800 jumps for the cost of a lineset. t It's the year of the Pig.
  4. I'm really missing them today. No good burgers out here... t It's the year of the Pig.
  5. I think you're preaching to the converted. t It's the year of the Pig.
  6. As a Taoist Buddhist (as opposed to a Zen Buddhist) I think you've missed the whole point of Tao. It's not a competition. It's OK for several different people to think of ways to bring out the best in themselves and humanity - and these thoughts can occur independantly. We should strive to follow our faith and let others follow theirs. There is no conflict between Christians and Taoists. (Well... before this thread anyway.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tao for a little more info for those who are interested. t It's the year of the Pig.
  7. I'm in South Africa. I order mine from Square1.com. Never had an issue with them since 1992. t It's the year of the Pig.
  8. Lol! You're a funny guy! Post the pic of the bent reserve! That's what I thought was exciting! t It's the year of the Pig.
  9. The handles being sucked in is pretty much a monowing problem. Any suit using the Roberts cutaway system - particularly if that suit was owned by the jumper and had been fitted to his rig many times in the past - makes this scenario unlikely. Do we know which suit this jumper was wearing? t It's the year of the Pig.
  10. True, but most rigs that are sized for sub 100 CB will take Pilots, Safires, Sabre 2's etc around 120 sq ft loaded to 1.8, thus such a harness may have a dual role for a working skydiver. I don't want to hijack this thread with WS stuff. Absolutely, but this is an indication that that's not always the case. t It's the year of the Pig.
  11. Smooth soles. Africa is covered in little bumps and any type of "Marathon shoes" stands a 1000 to one chance of hooking - which will pound you in for no reason every couple of years. That and I'm an old CRW Dog who's hooked lines on shoe bumps when leaving - with interesting results. t It's the year of the Pig.
  12. Hi Karina, The Hornet is a "light Eliptical" and would fall into the same category as the Sabre 2, Safire, Safire 2, Pilot, etc. I've found it to be an excellent wingsuit canopy as it tends to open quite fast and deals with line twists in a very forgiving manner. Unfortunately I have no experience of it at wing loadings below 1.8, but would not expect to see it classified as a high performance canopy at low/moderate wing loadings. The problem with "classification" is that when something is labled "eliptical" it's hard to argue that its not, dispite it's stable handling charecteristics. t It's the year of the Pig.
  13. Is that a statement or a question? t It's the year of the Pig.
  14. I think a flat spinning wingsuit is almost certain to go slower than 94mph. The speed cypres and wingsuit dives seem a pretty pointless combo, but for regular dives it sounds OK. As for the "knocked out" thing, 90% of AAD saves have been alti awareness issues so the "knocked out" scenario is statistically unlikely - unless it happens to you, of course. t It's the year of the Pig.
  15. From butterflysb My heart goes out to all of Mike's friends and family. I lost my boyfriend 6 months ago~ I know there isn't much I can say, but I feel your pain. So much love to all of you! Sara It's the year of the Pig.
  16. From bigdfreefly I knew Mike a long time ago when he jumped at Wright Brother's Skydiving and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Mike was an awesome guy and he will surely be missed It's the year of the Pig.
  17. From flygrrrl95 He was an amazing person and I can't believe how lucky I was to spend 5 years of my life with him. He was my best friend for so long and one of the most loving, generous, fun and happy people I've ever known. I will miss him for the rest of my life. I will always remember his love for skydiving, life and people! It's the year of the Pig.
  18. From myamyinva That is so sad, I just jumped there on Friday the 25th and everyone was so awesome. It's the year of the Pig.
  19. From Shell666 My heart goes out to you all in Orange. I have a lot of friends there and while I want to know, I think I can wait. Hugs to everyone there ... I love you all. Take care, cry and celebrate their life. 'Shell It's the year of the Pig.
  20. I've edited the condolences out of the incident thread. Please post condolences here. t It's the year of the Pig.
  21. It took me 7 years and 1000 dives. (South Africa has a 1000 jump/10 hrs of freefall requirement) It's what I most disliked about my instructors that inspired me to be better. t It's the year of the Pig.
  22. I think that's a safe bet. What I don't get is why skydivers want it to happen. Do you think any flag dancers are really hoping they get a go at the US Nationals? We have our competitions already. t It's the year of the Pig.
  23. That was done on 220 sq ft 7 cells, 5000ft AMSL. I KNOW it's possible on 280 Skymasters. No one is saying do it on Velocity 93's. It was pulled though for the evolution canopies have gone through, and some people's inapropriate choice of gear, much like the water jump requirement. t It's the year of the Pig.
  24. All my years are good, but the best one is always the one I'm in! It's the year of the dog. t It's the year of the Pig.
  25. In the last 21 years, I've heard stuff like that many times. Licence requirements that I had to complete and that have since been removed include water jumps, CRW dock 3 times on a single dive, CRW be docked 3 times on a single dive, steer a 4 stack, land top and bottom of a 4 stack. Some that remain are night jumps, dock 5th or higher on an 8 way, be in a 16 way (Not in the base) and a couple of others like number of jumps etc. Although these are not USPA requirements, they are PASA requirements. The number of times I've been in a Tandem rotation, hit an ATC hold and got out... a bit after sunset.. is lots. Why can't people just do what's asked. The white lines on the road are for all the drivers. Why can't skydiving requirements be the same? I believe that D licence requirements should be bloody hard to get. That way when someone has a D, you know its worth something. t It's the year of the Pig.
