  1. This is where the big brain is needed. I'll give you a hint.... Your 1/2 right with what you have said. Let me know when to post the answer if it does not pop up soon... I am not kidding when I say that 90% is close but not right probability to answer the question.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  2. I did not say he was wrong, only said he was close. that was a typo in my typing but not in the answer not being correct. 90% is not the right answer. think about it a bit and put the big brain to work and see if the right answer comes.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  3. Close but NO! Brain needs to get a little bigger..... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  4. Here is another ONE!!! You have fifty (50) coins in your pocket that total $1.00. But you drop one coin while counting them. WHAT is the probability that he dropped a penney.... Well is Mr big brain out there??? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  5. Andy, How far down on the front riser are the "Slocks" located. Are they positioned along the riser or across the riser? What is the estimated diameter of the "slock" More info going to be put on the web page?? Also what is the status of the 1"teen" concept for the Sensei to keep us jumpers that are over 200lbs w/o gear at about a 2.0 load on the new canopy? Just curious! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  6. I sent in a Sabre 135 that was in good shape. Had close to but under 1000 jumps on it and was in great shape for 900+ jumps sans the looks of the center cell topskin tailhalf. It was a BabyBlue lot of fabric that seemed to just wear out compared to the rest of the canopy. Wear appeared to come from packing. Anyway it needed a re-line so I sent it in. About a week after sending it in one of the CSR's called me and said it would cost $800 to re-line BUT that they would cut me a great deal on a NEW canopy. I asked her why it was so high and she talked about patches and that it had a "lot" of jumps on it. I asked to have a fabric pull test done. They did it and she called me back and said it passed no problem but that the cost would still be the noted $800 and I should consider letting them keep this one and buiying a new canopy. I did not want to do this and asked for a list of where they felt the patches should go and to re-line it and send back. She said "NO" which really tweeked me. After further discussion and stating the basic premesis of my case "It is a main canopy, it passed your fabric test so Re-line it and send it back! I will put the patches on myself" She still was fighting with me but finally agreed to express my desier regarding my canopy to the next guy up the chain and though it took some extra time and a lot of hassel on my end they ended up doing what I asked which should not have been as hard as it turned out to be. Bottom line after the longwinded story is that I got the canopy back as I requested with the fresh re-line even though they tried to discourage me as much as possible from doing it and pused a new canopy. I wanted to $225 re-line not a $1000 canopy I felt that it was a main canopy that was in good shape given the number of jumps but they made me feel as if it was a piec e of crap that should be replaced becuse it had a number of jumps on it ands was about 10 years old from DOM. I felt they wanted to sell me a new canopy more then they wanted to do the re-line which is all i really wanted. DONT BE SUPRISED IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU IF YOUR CANOPY IS OLDER... Have your rigger look at it and get his opinion regarding a re-line. If there is a concern request a pull test. I said dont be suprised at what they say...... Scott C. 7. The micro Raven series (150 and smaller) seem to have the smaller control range. The Raven I, II ect on up really hve never been accused of this characteristic. With three rigs in my ready to jump pile I have two Raven I reserves but in the smaller rig have a PD126 . Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  8. I jump a baggie suit when the weather is not that hot BUT when the temp gets going up I wear a T-shirt (long or short sleeve, no matter to me) and a pair of FreeFly pants! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

  13. I thought they wre going to take the top ten from the Oregon meet. Looks like they took 19 (Ultra Class)? How is the competition going to be run? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  14. What were the final standings of the top ten? I see the top 5 but what about 6-10? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  15. You are right but I am pretty sure that there are going to be some people out there that are going to continue to use the out of service life cypress units. Good bad or ugly I have heard a few people say that they were going to do so and yes they were riggers. Do I think they should, probably not. Will it happen, probably. Again the question then becomes "Is it better to have a oout of service life on then to not have one?" I was just thinking about the possible way to continue to use it in terms of other avation aspects. I would also guess there may be an overseas market for the units.... Scott C. 16. From Tumwater you are about 35-40 miles from Toledo straight down I-5. Mike and Donna havae a nice little DZ there. Good group of people. They run a C-182 and also had a Beech 18 but I think Steve is trying to sell it. Like I noted a good bunch of people and they have fun bonfires over the summer on Sat nights and some Fri nights. www.skydivetoledo.com Also you have a great choice in Kapowsin. Depending on which direction you go getting to K-pow will be a little longer then the drive to Toledo. Toledo is a straight shot down I-5. Distance wise getting to K-pow is agout 50 miles or so but only about 1/3 is on the highway. Great DZ at K-pow. The have the obligatory C-182 but also have a Caravan or Twin Otter on site almost every weekend. They have a number of turbins and they have them out and about all the time but generally have one at home all the time as well. http://www.skydivenet.com/kapowsin/ You also have BlueSkies Skydiving in Bremerton that is about the same amount of time from Tumwater aas is Kapowsin. they have 2 182's and are also a good group of people..... www.blueskies-skydiving.com Then there is Skydive Molalla about 3 hours south and Skydive snohomish about 1.5 to 2 hours North dependig on Traffic through Seattle. Welcome to Washington. There are a number of us on dropzone.com that live here. Hope to run into you sometime! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  17. That service price is a little high. I just sent in and got back yesterday a 10 year old cypress (2 years left of life and it cost exactly $250.25) I am going to put it into a rig and sell it as a container, reserve and a stated 2 year life left cypress. Does the $305 seem high for a unit that needs service from '94, yes! Is it high for a unit with a fresh battery and a fresh service check wsith2 years left??? Maybe not, check the calculator SSK has. I would bet dollors to donughts though that people will stick a battery in there unit is similar condition and call it good. Once I sell mine can I argue with them, NO. It will be between their rigger and them or if they are their own rigger then a whole new level of questions are raised...... That stated, my guess is that there are going to be a number of people that are going to go well beyond the service life of the cypress. If you dont have one great, but if you have one that is out of date and still jump it what is the difference between using it and noting it as "Out of Service" on the packing card compared to not having one. The question then becomes is it better to have a BACKUP device that is out of service life compared to not having something at all???? Look at airplanes with instruments marked as "inop". they are not on the Min equipt list and are not needed to fly, nice to have yes but needed.... not really. Jumping with a cypres is a personal choice and not a requirement to get out of an airplane. That said the question then becomes again "Is jumping with a good battery and a out of service life unit better then jumping without anything?" Sure you can throw in the FAR reg that says if it is there it has to be maintained as per the manufacturer but if you note it as "Out of Service" why not keep jumping it and what is the difference between that and a "Inop" airplane instrument, it is again not on the min required list to jump out of a plane..... Anyway I think this is going to be a topic of much debate as units start going out of Service life. Personally I lean towards.... well it really does not matter since I can see both sides of the argument. I have a rig that has a Cypress and one that does not. I jump both. I also have not had to cross the bridge of an out of service life cypres yet but I think it will be interesting to see where the debate goes. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  18. I would not doubt it was a combination of both pilot and canopy. A superior canopy pilot with an inferior canopy will out fly and out surf an inferior pilot on a superior canopy. Given a superior pilot and superior canopy you will get outstanding stuff! I am still wondering though about canopy sizing on the other end of things. 71sqft is pretty small but I would wonder about going up to a 120 or so in a Sensei standard production model. The sweet spot in a number of cross braced canopies seems to be around 2.2 with good performance from 2.0 to 2.4. In a non x-braced canopy it seems to top out with maximum performance around 1.8, again with a little above and below. The 101 would have me at 2.277 out the door and though that is fine I would be wanting to demo a canopy one size up in the 1"teen" range to a 120 which would be the max I would be interested in. I am a little more conservative regarding the X-braced canopies then others but again I am exiting at about 230-235. I would be very interested to hear about additional sizing or what the recommended performance envelope is going to be or that which has been defined in the testing phases of the canopy from Brian and others...... 19. The new site is nice but it looks like the pictures page is gone. I am glad to see more information on the Sensei getting out there. i was suprised to see that it is only on 4 sizes though with the biggest being 101 sqft. My questions what is the price and when can I get one to put a few demo jumps on??? Are these being made by PD or is it something that Brian is keeping tighter control over? Love my Samurai but think I might want to get a Sensei. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  20. I have made a couple of trips over the last month or so and have had no problems at all. Before the rules required that you keep you checked luggage unlocked I would just check in a hard case but now I dont want to risk doing that and lettting a parachute uninformed TSA guy decide he needs to do something stupid to my gear. I have a gear bag that I can put on my shoulder like a back pack. It has nothing skydiving related on it, it just looks like a bag for a trip. I dont say anything about it to the screeners and dont act nervous. At 3 different airports I have had no problems. I think if you just act normally and if there is a question you dont BS the guy or treat him poorly you should not have any problems. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  21. I talked with Sandy a couple of weeks ago about a new Kill line PC and he suggested a Cazer. he said they were nice and probably would save me some $. I believe the RI specified parts are specific to the harness and reserve system components.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  22. First of all Congrats on your first rig. Second, all rigs fit differently. If you think about how the student gear is set up in comparison to the "new to you" rig is set up, it sounds like it is just slightly different and that seems to bother you a little. Comfort with gear is an important aspect to skydiving BUT that being said student gear generally is not identical in set up or feel to a majority of "sport" rigs. They will all have the needed components, I not saying they are that different, but the placement may be different then what you are presently comfortable with. Handles being further to the side is going to be a product of how the harness and yolk are set up. A J7 is not the smallest rig on the market but you might be able to tighten the chest strap and in turn pull the handles over a bit more to the front. I have seen people unhappy with the position of the handles on the harness with different manufcturers rigs, some are set higher then others. With out seeing a picture I cant say if its sized correctly. Couple of questions would be if the rig is comfortable? Where do the leg straps and the MLW hit on your body, at your hip above or below? Does the lateral from the MLW to the container have a lot of play or does it hold the container on your back well? I would suggest that you have an instructor, S&TA or even an experienced jumper or local rigger at the DZ you trust give you a look see with the gear on. If the gear fit is OK and the different handle position is what is making you uncomfortable, have an instructor go over some emergence procedures with you and the new rig to help get you more comfortable with it. 24. I have three different suits. 2 of them for RW (fast RW suit is a Body Sport, slower suit is a Dive Rite)and a set of gaters for the extra cheat if I am in between the two suits so I can go with the faster suit but with the extra cheat. Use the third suit for Tandem, FF and camera..... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  25. Anybody know the prices? After looking at the pictures it looks narrow, how wide is it? The pictures make it look smaller in Diameter than Skyventure. Also the design is different. Looks like you can see the power source at the bottom (big propeller) what do they have around it, It looked open down there in the pictures but it was not an up close look. Has this particular design been used previously?? Also being set outside do ground winds affect the flow of air inside the tunnel? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
