I guess that they are close enough to consider what the voice of reason says! I'll see if I can make it over the hill towards Perris.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

OK, this is last minute for my trip tonight but I wanted a quick poll on how people have been taking gear with them on air trips. I have read a bunch of posts with new restrictions but all seem to be getting through OK. Basically when your traveling now, carry on or check? Never had a problem in the past but with "CODE ORANGE" in place now trying to guess at the best way to get through TSA crap..... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Looks like lots of west coast people (and some from back east) are heading down to Perris this weekend. I have a long planned trip for 8-way coaching at Elsinore tomorrow, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Anybody going to be around at Elsinore??? Either way I am flying from Seattle down to ONT tonight at 6pm. WhooHoo!! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Finally a good report on Skydiving! Lots of oohs and aahhas in the background during the turns to swoop/final from the Evening mag guy. They did a good job! Even showed some not so gracefull landing but did not make it the whole story, very positive twist on the whole thing.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Flying down to Ontairo on Wed evening (21st) for some 8 way jumping at Elsinore and probably some other jumping as well. Planning on jumping there on Thurs, Fri Sat and a good chunk of Sun. Back to Seattle on Sun evening then spending Monday at a yet to be determined NW DZ! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

That is pretty funny, Remincent of the good old "Nipplboy" posts on rec. about 7 years ago

looks like need to go bigger than four unless somebody else can come up with a bigger previous dz.commer jump..... Scott C "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

If I remember corectly it was a minimum of 500 jumps..... That is of course what they said in the ad! "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
-
given that from what I can tell there is no set canuck dz.com record, or in this case any specific dz.com canuck drop zone made jump, if you want to do a two way on Sat morning it wil be the first canuck DZ dz.com 2 way
-
It looks like a number of people that are onhere are going tobe at Kmloops. Anybody know if there is a canuk dz.com jump that has been done? It seems that there are a number of people proud of the different dz.com "record" jumps. Although I dont really look at it as a record who's up for a jump or two as fellow dz.com users..... Scott C. I had two Batwings, a 134 and a 116, for a number of years. They were, as I was flying them, very fun and I never had a problem with them. They did not like being out of trim and the openings became squrily if the trim was way out. My exit weight out the door was from 225 to 240lbs during the years I was jumping the Batwing. At the heavest noted weight, the 134 with the slightly lower load of 1.8 compared to the 116 at 2.07 did get a better landing. The design seemed to be really effecient at up to 1.8 but above that landing performance seemed to drop off. Regarding the guy who was looking at a 116 after comming from a 165 Turbo, one word NO! The 116 at a 1.3 load still will be very unforgiving and I would try out a 153 first or no smaller then a 134. They are out there at decent prices but honestly you should have more jumps then 200ish before going to any eliptical canopy. The other alternative is to consider a semi tapered wing like a Sabre 2 or one of those new class of canopies. Regarding a fast canopy progression, Can you land it time and time again and again, sure BUT the big problem with a fast progression is that if something goes wrong it happens very fast. The problem can quickly be magnified with a slow or incorrect recognition while jumping a canopy that is a small fast ZP design. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

here are some facts from Air & Space..... The Icarus two project is $4.5million and 25 glide tests towards completion... 6' Delta wing from Carbon Fiber www.felixbaumgartner.com the new design has a glide ratio of 1 down to 6 forward. Expects to exit at about 29,000 and to reach a max of 300mph before stabilizing to glide at 155mph completing the hop in 10 minutes and making the last of his descent with a parachute Last November he strapped himself on the roof of his Porsche 911 and went down the Salzburg airport runway to test his helmet and o2 tank. "Its like driving a Formula One car. the equipment is extremely sensitive and quite delicate, which means that any problem is a big one. Baumgartner said. Hope that helps, Scott C. There is an article on his attempt plans in the most recent issue of Smithsonian Air and Space. About 1/2 a page but a pic of him on top of a car he used for testing. If anybody has it, it is worth a look. Also a cool article on the Hughes racer, but that is a different topic..... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

I hear good things about the boogie. Should be a great weekend. I am planning on gettting there by noon on Friday. Any word on when the plane arrives and the jumping is suposto start?.... May turns out to be a jump slut month for me...

Who is going to be at the Kamloops boogie in two weeks? I am going to be heading up north o da border and was just curious who else is going to be out there! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Anybody see a cost on the Cypress II or the batteries? I have not noticed anywhere where the price is stated other then it will be slightly higher. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

OK, after watching right from the begining I can see its Perris. My bad before but I see it now, the vid turns away after showing about 1-2 sec of the loading/packing/partying area. Regarding what I thought was broken lines, it actually looks to be more scrub of some sort and not broken lines. I did not think it was the kill line for the slider as that is very apparant. The scrub I wondered about looked a little like a coiled line. the vid was jumpy at that point. I guess the lesson learned is that Dust Devils are bad. I was caught is one at about 100 feet one time years ago. I had about 100 jumps at the time and I was very lucky to walk away unscathd. I was told it looked like my canopy was colapsed by an invisible hand that came down from the top and then tossed me about 50 yards to the side. My canopy inflated again at about 30-40 feet and I landed in a wheat field that was luckley pretty tall and soft at the time so the landing was soft and I did not get a sctarch. Scott c. I just copied the link that Tony put up, I made no decision of the format

http://www.freeflytim.com/movies/Dustdevil.rm Tony Ross posted this over on rec.skydiving. Worth taking a look at. I dont know who it is or what DZ it is so I cant give any credit other than to Tony for posting it. Makes you think that its not over till its over regarding canopy flight and landing. Scott C. As much discussion that the "Integrity" or "reverse" risers seems to create the one key thing to remember is that if you use them you will not notice a difference in their use during normal jumping BUT there are some situations that need thought regarding your emergency procedures. One example of a difference you need to think about is created by a reduced angle between the rings on the "reversed" main risers and the reserve riser. This can restrict the "open" space needed to allow the "reversed" 3-ring system to unfold releasing the main canopy. There are a number of ways to have this happen but from my own personal experience you can run into a problem if the reserve is deploying while under an open main canopy. The opening sequence of the reserve lifts its risers off the shoulder and in turn the reserve riser becomes progressively closer to the "reversed" main risers rings, that is of course if the deployed main is not cut away. I was under my open main then realized my reserve was going out. I looked over my shoulder to see the freebag going to line stretch and my first thought was "shit" so I cut the main away before the reserve was open, thinking canopy transfer. All good right!!! Wrong, a second later found myself looking up at a "Cut Away Main Main/Reserve Bi-Plane" with the cut away handle in my hand and cables dangling. Second thought: "WTF, this is not what I was expecting!" All ended good and that is a different story but I bring it up as something to think about… The reverse risers are out there, not so popular now but they are around. I have a pair in my gear bag as a back up if I need risers for something. You need to think about the differences brought about with this type of riser and have in your emergence procedure thoughts the different situations that may be generated by the reversed risers. It is not as simple as cut away - deploy reserve every time. If you use decide to get reversed risers great, if you don’t great, but be aware how these risers might fit into your emergency procedures. My suggestion was not for a replacement of the grips but a easy fix to cover the unwanted color with a desired color. Depending on your sewing skills, your access to a sewing machine or a rigger or seamstress that would be willing to do this, it might be just as easy to go to the manufacturer. Personally I would probably try to cover it, but I like tinkering. A quick phone call to get some options is not a bad idea. I am sure the ingenious population here on dropzone.com will have some other ideas as well

You might be better off sewing a "cover" of the desired color on the grip compared to the trouble of dyeing just the grippers. I had a good sized tear in a grip from a DC3 exit a awhile back and was having trouble trying to figure how to easily fix it. It was in a funky place on the grip and I could not sew it easily. Ended up taking some fabric cut a little widder then the diameter of the grip and sewed it with the two edges of the "cover" at the seam with the suit. Ended up with a double stich so it was very secure and did not even have to do anything with the seam on the suit. Had to be careful about not letting the "cover" get loose around the grip. Hope that description makes sense. The one I did was only part of the grip to cover the tear but you should be able to match the length of the grip with the same basic fix. Hope it at least gives you some ideas! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
