OK I don’t have anything to do with the company but a previous thread about the altimeters caused me to contact them about some service on one of my altimeters. I have to say that they have been nothing but professional and fast in communications. After that I started this thread to get some opinions on their product. Partially due to the responses I have been getting from them and on a few PM recommendations on the quality of the altimeter, I decided to get one to replace an old altimeter I have. They have been nothing but helpful and if the quality of the unit is half as good as it is being sold as, I will be nothing but happy. Also since I can get some custom work done on the face to be exactly what I want, I don’t mind giving them a try. When I get the altimeter I will post a full review of the unit.... from an unbiased opinion! I guess I am willing to give a chance to the smaller guy or a new piece of equiptment. In the past I have been generally happy when I do this but before I do it I need to be convinced that the claims are somewhat based in reality. In this case all the info I have been able to gather lets me feel comfortable in getting one but I can say that if I am unhappy with it I will let it be known in a review….. Scott C. I tried to track down (spent only a couple of minutes on line) the max loading for the COE-D you were talkinga bout. There is a valid concern about going over the max weight of the manufacturer but that said what is the max suggested weight of the canopy? Is that a "experience based" weight limit? Are you way over it or are you on the bubble? Will the canopy be able to go with that load, probably yes. An example is the PD Sllhouette 230 (a hybrid canopy which you noted COE-D is) has a max weight of 276 lbs. Again it is a different parachute but serves as an example. Maybe a better example is the navagator from PD also a hybrid student canopy. The 260 has a max loading noted at 336 but a student and novice loading at 254. Fire off a E-mail to PISA (EMAIL: pisa@pisa.co.za) their sport line went to Aerodyne but they still have their military line. Or try aerodyne for an answer as to if it is an experience based limit. The real question is the one that you wanted to set aside. The canopy realistically should be able to open, fly and land just fine at a 1.06 load but as a novice jumper (35 jumps on your profile) generally the suggested load is going to be slightly under a 1.0 load. Anybody have one? Have an opinion? Thinking about getting one and curious about some impressions. They are from Free Fall Accessories Inc. They do carry a lifetime warranty Thanks, Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Boy that sucks, for you . I live in Seattle and we, contary to popular beliefs around the country, have had really nothing but great weather all summer sans the occational cloudy morning marine layer thing. I guess the weather decided to shift the accepted/preceived Seattle WX to another part of the country for the summer. If you get a chance can you keep it for us up here in the NW a little longer?? we are in no rush to get it back!

Who were the competitors? What were they jumping. Did any of the BigAir airlocked canopies show up, specifically the much anticipated Sensi? Thanks Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

If you have ever rode the plane down...

A number of times: In Competition and on fun jumps had to land because weather moved in fast JM'ing, students chickened out a few times and once had a reserve pop on a student. Have probably landed with a rig on 20+ times for various reasons.. No bigie just one of those things. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" -
Get a subscription to Skydiving Magazine as well. That is also a great one to get and read. Not on a newsstand as far as I have seen anywhere over the last 15 years... www.skydivingmagazine.com/ Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

I have heard this concern many times. A 3.5 exit is a altitude to chunk something off from in the NW when the weather is bad A hop in pop is a great fun way to get a jump in and I would not be that concerned. the more worried you get the more likely something will not be perfect on the jump. Consider this, if you open at 3K normally and you exit at 3.5K you have almost 6 seconds before your to 3K. If you pop into a hard track out the door you can add a few more seconds to that before you get to 3K. Are you going to be doing this, probably not, but the point is that 3.5 is no different then a 13K jump. The air is the same you still can exit and fall stable and you still pull. The big difference is that you pull at about 5 seconds and not 65 seconds. As for counting, fine if your more comfortable doing that, but you should be able to take a quick glance at the alti. As for opening you ahould be under canopy by approx 2.5K if you pitch at 3K. With your experience (I did not bother looking at profille but you noted finishing AFF) if your at 1.5K the reserve is you choice. The jump should go like this: exit stable at 3.5....Fall for about 5 seconds to just above 3K....pull and feel a slightly slower opening and have a open canopy at about 2.5K at the lowest....smile nd have fun flying your canopy. wind tunnel coming to victoria bc???????????
sdctlc replied to deadmanflying77's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That would be cool, Only a couple hour drive from here. With the exchange rate, not as much so now as before, but still favorable I will happily toss down some of my American $$ down to spend some quality time in a tunnel... Gotta love a rumor Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" -
Dave, As much as I enjoy the old VW's I have to say I LOVE my '99 VW CamperVan Conversion! I wish you luck on your van.... But I stick with mine Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Uncle Dave! he got me wanting to skydive when I was a kid when he took me to several Freak Brother conventions. No suupport from the parents regarding jumping but after I started jumping Dave gave me his rig (he had stopped jumping) as my first rig. Dave was a huge infulence in starting me wanting to jump then facilitating me to make a bunch more jumps when I started. As a poor college student that rig savig me a ton-o-moola! Scott C. Hell yeah they are fun!! Different kind of rush but it is hard to get away from you childhood love for excitment. I wuld prefer to jump but if given the chance to go ride some coasters I would take it. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Since the other thread went over so well but then became bogged down, but it was fun.... Here is a new challenge: A group of children found a large sum of money on the street and took it to the police. The grateful owner gave each of them a reward. If there had been two more children in the group, they each would have received $1.00 less, with $2.00 left over to be divided into cents. If there had been double the number, each would have received exactly $2.50 less. If there had been three fewer of them, each one would have received $2.00 more and there would have been $1.00 left to split into pennies. This way, each received an exact sum in dollars, with no cents left over. How many children and how large was each reward? Have Fun..... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Dalton likes a star. He only likes words that also spell words backwards. Dalton likes pots (stop) and pans (snap) but not cooks (skooc). He likes straw (warts) but not hay (yah); he likes sagas (sagas) but not poems (smeop). Does he like a star (rats) or a planet (tenalp) Nice job Rebecca Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Now for another one, non-math this time...... Dalton likes pots and pans but not cooks. He likes straw but not hay; he likes sagas but not poems. Does he like a star or a planet? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

You have to average X-mph over a run. Time and distance are there to help figure out the answer but not completely relvant to the answer as different values can be used to determine the answer. No matter what the distance is, if you go 1/2 X-mph of the target for the first half unless you can instantly go back to the start you cant get back in time to average X-mph for the entire run.....no matter whatthe distance Now for another one, non-math this time...... Dalton likes pots and pans but not cooks. He likes straw but not hay; he likes sagas but not poems. Does he like a star or a planet? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

WE HAVE A NEW BIG BRAIN WINNER and fast two: My explaniation is basically the same as Cindy.... You can't do it at all. If your run is 6 miles, you would have to do it in one hour to average 6 miles per hour. However, you've already taken an hour to do the first half of the run, thereby using all the available time and there for your out of luck... cant be done. Want another one????? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
-
Maybe the uphill part of the run is more important in the answer to the question....... There is your hint Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
-
Not 1/2 right, in fact not right at all..... Sorry... This is not as easy as the coins though it does have an answer. Scottt C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

How foolish of me to stick with my straight forward probability answer. I still don’t think DTOXX is right though even with the well thought out engineering big brain answer. I believe him to be inaccurate because he failed to take into account how factors such as humidly and density altitude effect the person holding the coins. Not to mention the possibility that barometric pressure may be altered due to a fast moving through the area where the holder is standing causing his body to be altered in its metabolic rates which would then in turn alter the probability that DTOXX gave thus making him close but wrong. The more I think about it I am going to stick with my 85%, I like that answer. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Since this went over so well, here is another one to mull over..... You have decided to take a morning run to prepare for the local marathon at an average speed of 6 miles per hour. Unfortunately, you are not in as good shape as you thought, and you are running uphill. You find that for the first half of the run, all uphill, your average speed was only 3 miles per hour. How fast must you run on the way back, all downhill, to make for an entire round trip average speed of 6 miles per hour? Have big brain fun Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Since your post was the same time as mine I believe you.... splittail1 has the big brain for this one..... And your prize (drum roll) …. a big dose of personal satisfaction and envy from the rest of so called big brains out there Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
-
Here you go, since the ansewr is kinda out there now: The probability that you/he dropped a penny is 85 percent. There are only two ways in which fifty coins can total $1.00. One is forty-five pennies, two nickels, two dimes, and a quarter; the other is forty pennies, eight nickels, and two dimes. So there are eighty-five chances out of one hundred that the coin was a penny. Want another one????? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

It is not a brain buster to break into social realisms or to consider eclectic thought processes on. It is a mathematically straight forward question, DAMN, after the fast answer to the gold bar question I figured this would get solved ASAP…. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
