Jumping with Kapowsin Air in Washington
sdctlc replied to MNM604's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Should have been there. I made 2 . . .in the rain. John, Suprisingly out at BSSA had no realy weather woes at all, yesterday or today. Well weather looked so bad people called and were suprised that we were jumping with Blue skies starting late morning. When I left after doing a number of tandem loads they were on the 8th or 9th load load I think. It looked nasty down south easterly though.. Wx should be good tiomorrow all over Westren WA though... USPA says 16 with parental sign off but I know of many states, Washington included, where a parent cant sign the childs rights away. As a result there are some DZ's that stick to an age limit of 18 as a min. The question of family is one that I dont have an issue with espically if they have been around a DZ all their life. Is there an issue though with a under 16 y/o if they are jumping at a USPA group Member DZ? The mullins kids had tons of jumps before 16 but I dont know if they were jumping exclusively at Non-Group Member DZ's. I mention them as they are a well know example of a family in skydiving that has young kids in teh sport.. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

I looked and did not notice anything that mentioned the Leap For Lupus orhter then tha few "Great Time" posts.... It went off well and was successful in that the new NW Womens Regional Record is 25. Congrats to all that participated and gave their time! Some additional information and pictures can be seen at http://www.blueskies-skydiving.com/LeapForLupus.htm Scott C. Forgot to Add that they made the jump out of the Kapowsin Otter and a Turbin Converted C-207 named "Gonzo" "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

That was interesting so look at the HUD and see the speeds and the procedure. Looks like the initial response was to use the indicated 240 to pitch up to about 23 degrees. They kept the climb up to about a speed of 130 or so. Could not see the altitude very well but it looked to be about 3500 at the top. The communication seemed to show that the procedure was for one pilot to fly while the other tried the re-start. Seemed like 2 tries and then the decision, radio call and ejection. Also the plane impacted at about 178 very nose down about 20 degrees. Pretty deep nose drop at the ejection to about 35 degrees down. Although it really sucked it was kinda cool to watch the procedures and ejection.. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

This is what I posted in the incidents forum regarding this. Also note, as asked above, the training was the same day... The student was the 3rd out on the load and was part of a group of about 12 that wre out for the 1st jump course. The jumpmaster noted the the canopy opened on heading and was flying straight as the plane started to turn and he was pulling in the S/L bag. When he cought sight of the student again he was in a fairly fast turn. He had plently of time to try and correct but at no point made an attempt to use his SOS system or to try and counter the turn. This is also what was reported from the ground by the radio instructor and other experienced jumpers, basically the canopy opened and was flying straight and then started turning. Radio was working and was checked as per procedure before the load. The radio instructor was trying to get the student to respond to the turn. When the gear was looked at following the jump, all was in order but one of the break toggles was unstowed. If the student had released both toggles this probably would not have been anything but a normal jump. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Where do you jump near there? I have relatives close to there in LeMars and have been bored there a few times when visiting.. Only so much Blue Bunny I can take Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

probably 40% +/- a little.... I would rather be on the side of caution and slide in, it is easy and soft 95+ % of the time. Unless the wind is there and constand no reason to try it as the benefit does not seem to give the risk reward value up enough. I dont have a desire to have the tandem passanger trip or not step when trying to land resulting in a fun landing on top of them as we fall forward OR doing the hollywood side flop to have both of us hit. Sliding is easier. If the wind is right then stand ups are prety easy. Then again you have other factors to look at, pax size and canopy your jumping. All that looked at, I will stick with about 40% stand ups..... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Gotta agree, Loving my HC40.. No issues and am using a 0.6x on it for traditional video, not the hand stuff Rob is doing..... As a side, Rob are you still making the hand mounts? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

A number of people including me with the 350 have a sigma 15mm. I am very happy with it. the only draw back was not being able to put a filter on the front but that has not proven to be an issue. With the conversion fator this puts it in the low 20's in terms of lens comparison to a 35mm camera.. A 20 mm will be about 30mm I would guess.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Helluva a suggestion , if they had done that, well why the hell would I toss the questions out there.. Gotta be one "Mr. Obvious" in every crowd.... LOL Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

OK, I searched and found lots of different types of song suggestions. I am trying to get a few tandem edits done and I ran into a group of people wanting something along the lines of Hip-Hop. I have been searching but have not found much that seems to work.. I am not a huge HipHop afficinato so any suggestions for this genre on a Tandem Vid would be appreciated..... Thanks Scott C. I have had great luck with my XT. I have a High Speed CF 1GB card. The Microdrive question is a good one. On the ground can you fire off a burst? If your using a slower speed CF card then your buffer might be full. Also what mode are you jumping in?? Your camera will slow way down if you have it is the Gren box modeand it is trying to pop open the flash. If it is tapped down then the camera wont fire. Scott C. I see the gelatin filter holder but am not sure about using it, I dont know of anybody who does, Does anybody use it.. I dont see the vinetting (more realistically the adaptor being caught in the corners of the sensor) but I do see the filter on teh adaptor when I take a shot with a front filter on. No real reason to leave it on if I dont want it other then to protect the glass. I dont think it is a big deal if i am carefull on the glass and it seems that people are doing that if they are jumping this lens... I have received a couple of responses from people that are jumping w/o a front lens filter/protector.. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

OK, those that are using it, are you using the adaptor ring on the front with a filter? It comes off and leaves the lens more exposed but since I am shooting a XT I am not seeing the full 180 fish look with the sensor conversion factor so it does not seem to matter if it is on or not (which I expected). Any way are you leaving it on with a filter, which I am thinking about doing to protect the front glass?? I want to go shoot tomorrow but dont want to hurt the glass. Let me know what your doing or what you know people are doing. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
