  1. I jumped my xfire2 141 in my j4 for a while. Never a problem. It didnt even look that bad when packed. I used the j4 bag and was fine. I wa sin the process of getting my new container at the time, so it wasnt my ideal situation, but it worked great. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  2. probabyl before, but I am much happier with the jumpping I am doing now. I could jump more now but I havent decided what I am doing for the winter yet, so I am storing some money away. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  3. If you are trying this to practice your flare skills, then you dont have the skills to pull it off. Put the ascender down! Stick to planes and maybe you wont have to eat through a straw tomorrow. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  4. If you work 7 days a week and cant afford to jump, quit your job. Move to a dz for a year and work however you can. See which one makes you happy. Everone here says skydiving will always be there, but so will the real world. I cut away this spring and now work on the dz, I have less money and am much happier with many aspects of my life. If jumping makes you happy, do what you need to to jump. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  5. Last longer? When does a spectra line set go bad? When it starts to effect open and flight (many people ive talked to recently said about 200 jumps), or when you just cant stand it anymore? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  6. Come up and check ou the ranch. We are about to hit the busy season with students so there will be plenty of jumping happening. Plus you can jump till you finish because we dont stop jumping when it gets cold. Come up one weekend even if your not ready to start to check it out and introduce yourself! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  7. how old is your javelin and who packs the main? I have seen some sloppy ass packjobs on the javelins Ive seen open. There is no way in hell my javelin would easily come open when I pack it. Closing loop length lends itself a lot to this also. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  8. I had a friend comment to me that he couldnt fight the stiff wind we were faced into as I cruised back to the dropzone on my xfire2 this weekend. I saw him on my level to my left and thought he wanted to fly relative a bit so I kinda dicked around to try to let him catch me. Then I went and made my approach to the dz and found out that he couldnt make it back. I havent found a canopy on the dz that can outglide me yet when Im on a little bit of rears. 9. I dont know how guys like that get jobs, but its stuff like that that lost him his. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  10. Your canopy doesnt know what wind is but it sure as hell knows what turbulence is. ie thermals, downdraft, obsticles ect. Ever go below tree line and have the canopy surge forward from the pilot rocking in front of the canopy momenterily? In turbulence, all bets are off. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  11. I sat in on a rigger doing someones lower control lines in this fashion last week. After the second fingertrap (the locking one) the line was less than an 1/8 of an inch shorter. Not a big deal when doing lower control lines. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  12. Beatrice was fuckin cool as hell. She had a blast! I loved seeing her whole family get all excited when she landed. It even made it on the local news here. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  13. Simon is not the owner of Icarus, He is a share holder. He is still a share holder. He is still with the company but has not had an active role for about the last year. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  14. I would stick with the rear riser stall on the xfire there laddy, though you could get away with a toggle one, you'ld better pray you get an even recovery on the inflation. Ask grouper how he lost one of PD's demo canopies after he was putting into practice what scott miller had told him to go try on that jump (practice stalls). When he got down scott said "I didnt tell you to do that!" hehe Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  15. I put my brakes back in the keeper on the langing area and set them before packing. I consistanty got twists in my right control line but never my left. I discovered it was the way I was putting the toggle through the cats eye because I crouched on the left side of my rig and was putting half a twist in my right c/l every time I set it. I put the c/l to the inside of the riser and the excess to the outside so it sits deeper in the riser channel and by doing that on the right, pow, half a twist. Anyway, no more tiwsts for me! 16. Call ahead cause I dont know what kind of rental gear they have. Save the Ranch for the next visit when you have more time! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  17. I think the "boogie" is for the weekend but its always a party here as long as the jumpers stick around so come on down. And dont forget, its harder to hit a moving target! Did I mention that PD and Mirage are going to be here? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  18. Lotus2, no, I jumped a lotus 190 Safire2 169for about 150 jumps safire 209 for about 300 jumps Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  19. We've got fight night, we've got fireworks, we've got gunfight night! What more do you want? You want to jump? Well we got that covered too! 3 super otters, birdman demos and instruction, freefly organizing by Mike Ortiz and organizing of all types by the members of the Ranch Progressive Flight School. Everyone's got a home at the Ranch so come on down, shut up and jump! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  20. why dont you tell me how you really feel. As for line twists, I pull my slider down and open the chest strap and have tried my damdest to do it to myself on my 141 loaded at 1.7 and cant. And your claim about the safire should have been preceeded by the fact that you thought it was fucked up. The safire doesnt suck on opening and flare, yours did. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  21. I've never had my xfire come even close to putting me into line twists from any sort of input. I almost put myself into twists on my first jump on a lotus. Then I think you were doing something wrong! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  22. They always did, I believe it was precision that didn't. But I see your point completely. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  23. Icarus measures their canopies with the same method that PD does simply for the fact that its probably the best reference for most jumpers. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  24. Gotta chime in off topic here also. I have a xfire2 @1.7 and landing straight in is no problem. If your landings straight in or after planing out high are painfull, I suggest you start doing some braked approaches to learn the slow flight landing characteristics of the canopy. No landing should hurt. When I did a few jumps w/ scott miller a few years ago, the first thing he had every swooper do regardless of wing loading was land straight in. If you cant do it smooth with no extra speed, you'll never do it right with a lot of extra speed. And the 39 needing to be hooked is off the charts for this conversation. It is overloaded beyond normal flight. If Luigi couldnt have dragged his feet, the landing would have been nasty. Smaller/faster canopy + higher stall speed. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  25. Come on, Brian. Did someone from an R+D team beat you up when you were a kid? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
