  1. Good shit, the xoas one is still downloading. Your second one was more of a superman ghostrider, no? Well done though, especially your real lazyboy ghostrider. edited to add: The xaos one is cool, awesome save, but I wish it didnt cut back and forth, kinda annoying. Show one then the other. 2. Only "dangerous skydives can kill you, but if you have a cypres it will save you from any risidual danger left over. The preceding has been a joke, I hope first comment was too. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  3. This was my second year of doing pumpkin drops from under canopy. We droped them anywhere from 500 to 1000 feet. I think that would be enough for terminal. They were going 100+ easy. Thats as close as I can estimate, but be carefull. They boogie! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  4. Buy a safire2 and if you still want a Pilot in 31 days, return the safire and get the Pilot. I personally would recomend the safire2. I have never jumper the pilot, but hear then are nice canopies. I did jump Aerodyne's Vision and was not impressed. I do have a bunch of jumps on Safire2's and couldnt be happier with them. 5. I think a good number of jumpers today dont realize how complex and dangerous skyding is. Its what puts people at higher risks. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  6. I also heard RWS yanked his rating when they got a hold of that video. The term is commonplace on the dz, alas I've never seen it. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  7. Knowing how to turn low will allow you to know when you can and cant turn tow. On a normal straight in approach, I think you should be able to pull off a 90 degree turn on ground level and walk away with little more than dirt on your jumpsuit. Maybe not on a student canopy, mind you, but any sport canopy should supply you with the lift to do that. If you could do a 90 on the ground, just imagine what you could do with 100 or even 300 feet! Low timers need to do what it takes to build confidence i their own abilities. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  8. hey Chris, I watched Tom's accident and have been thinking about it a lot lately. This didnt happen because Tom didnt know about low turns. It happened because it wasnt instinct enough to do a braked turn. By the time a new jumper reacts to an emergency situation low, even on a big canopy, it can be to late. It has to be more than taught, it has to be instinctual. I am not claiming I now how to make it so, but I am trying to work with people to come up with better ideas. It came for me when I had 12 jumps and landed in a tight spot between 2 houses after seeing lines running across the back yards. I jammed my shoulder pretty good, but walked away. I told myself that never again would a canopy tell me where to go. Thats the motovation I needed to seek the knowledge of canopy flight. I thought about (and even discussed) the idea of showing video of low turns ( not necessarily fatal) to new jumpers. I dont think it would work. If anything, fear is going to make them react slower. We need to teach methodical slow canopy flight and instill students with the confidence to use it. If they know how, they will know when to use it. I have done a few cross countries/ high hopnpops with a few newer jumpers on it. The reaction they gave me was great. Most never realized about the great way to get aquainted with their canopies. And this was with no training, just for fun. I look forward to working with low timers on some real flight training. Come find me at the ranch next time you're there. I still havent met you yet.. We can go do a hopnpop! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  9. I never got to meet Chris, but when we talked on here, we didnt always see eye to eye. I called him one afternoon to straighten some things out, and I think we both walked away with more respect for one another. Im sorry I never got a chance to meet him in person. My condolences to his family and everyone hurting from this accident. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  10. I am glad you are asking these questions. Bashed or not, you are looking for knowledge, and that is comendable. In addition to using an altimeter up high to guage altitude loss in agressive turns, try to do a high hopandpop with and expierenced jumper, preferably an instructor, to give you a visual reference of how your canopy is reacting to your inputs. Know your canopy looses 250 feet in a hard toggle 180 and 75feet in a braked turn is one thing, but seeing it with another canopy as a refernece is another. The more ways you can help your mind understand how a canopy flies the better. And dont forget, deploying up high gives you a lot more bang for your buck. Good luck and be safe. And I have to emphatically agree with Dave, Scott Miller is an excellent teacher. I have taken his course twice and sat in on a few more. Do your best to take his and any other canopy course you can. No matter what skydiving disciplines you persue, they will all end in a canopy flight and landing. Make the most of them. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  11. I have seen an older crossfire on the dz that had the slider that you described. I would talk to a rigger about getting it changed or secure yourself a new slider from Icarus or elsewhere. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  12. I have about 150 jumps on a safire2 169 loaded at 1.4. I would not call that loading intermediate. The canopy performed beautifully. Glide was phenominal. Penetration into wind was beyond what most similar mid range nine cells of that size I flew got (imo). Flare was excellent, but I didnt have any problems with my origonal safire either. Make sure you have the required skill before you jump any canopy loaded at 1.4. Seek coaching if you dont know if you do or not. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  13. The Pilot must be one hell of a canopy because the safire2 has excelent glide and the best openings i've ever felt (or not felt). I should have jumped one when aerodyne was here, I only jumed the vision. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  14. The white part is x-braced. I think they are calling it the GLX? They called it a GX when Slaton jumed it at the world cup last year. The center "3" cells look like an FX and the outer 3 look like crossfire2 cells. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  15. Thans why Im glad stainless was standard on my javys. No extra charge for my ICE. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  16. If I had the knowhow I'd post the video of you getting all psyched on saturday!! I loved the slower wave on sunday! Nice touch. By the way, do you have any video of mikes landing? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  17. Im happy JC set a new record, good for him! But maybe we could start measuring other parts of the swoop. I saw this one guy come to my dz this year, he was jumping this super small canopy, but his tumbling cartwheel was sooo much longer than his swoop! He then got spoken too by some of the better swoopers on the dz, claimed they didnt know what they were talking about, then got in his car and never came back. Im just saying maybe it does take skill to blast yourself halfway across the dz. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  18. Is the nitro that Hiper is selling still the same as the nitron that precision makes? I got to jump one this weekend and didnt think there was much to the canopy at all compared to my cf2. It was nice enough but didnt do anything for me. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  19. Whatever they use to gauge separation, I think there should be some mention of wind speed and direction to determine time. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  20. I dont know what they expected, but Jim told me it was super fast, and he is currently using a few of them for ground launching out in CA. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  21. you need to come to the dz once in a while so you can actually know what is going on. Man you're outta touch. hahaha Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  22. Fuckin-A brother Glad to hear you're happy. When people asked me why I waited 16 weeks for my javy I said cause thats how long I had to wait for my javy! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  23. Try everything you can. Personally I loved my safire's. I think the performance speaks for itself. And once again... demo, demo, demo. Did I mention Icarus has a 31 day satisfaction guarantee? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  24. I am very happy with the monkey fist that I bought from Skycat (kelli) I like the feel of it especially in winter with gloves. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  25. One jumoer got kicked off the ranch a number of years ago for landing a mr bill. He is now back but hasnt done it again. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
