  1. Wouldn't preventing someone from jumping as they have previous history of mental health issue be breach of human rights? Maybe something like skydiving would be good for them, a fun outlet, something to give their attention and enjoy. I am thinking more about depression than blatant psychos.
  2. My head is spinning, I can't keep up with you guys. WHos joking whos not, whos offensive whos not... I'm lost!!! Either way, nice one One day I'll be lucky enough to get photo in magazine and I'll be waving it for everyone to see
  3. Because it doesn't take anything to help. Just a bit of your time. Anyone can do that. You'll be surprised how many people won't even call for an ambulance/police/fire because they are scared or don't want to get involved and thats anonymous!
  4. And try doing a 2 stage flare on a wingloading of 0.7:1 on a F111 student canopy with over 500 jumps on it. It really doesn't work Might as well be jumping the same material they make tea bags out of! Also I seem to get a better more accurate flare when I look down. I tried looking ahead and have habbit of flaring too high when I try that. Guess its down to your individual perception of height. Only remedy is practice!
  5. Haha, I'm also volunteer cop. All round good egg really
  6. I'd be petrified if you came up to me with that grin on your face too
  7. Definately. I am a 'hands-on' tutor in another role. We deliberately try to allow our students to work with different people. Different learning styles and methods. They shouldn't be trying to make a newer version of themselves but instead you taking techniques away and doing whatever works and is safe. Also in a skydive, your not getting alot of time to get it right. I highly recommend the tunnel, especially as quite possibly the best in the world is on our doorstep (www.bodyflight.co.uk)
  8. I was told (tongue in cheek of course ) to flare when your scared!
  9. I will help anyone without thinking twice. The oath I took says I will act without fear or favour and thats what I'll do. I have a legal obligation to get involved, but to be honest, I would anyway. The thing that angers me is someone will walk on by then on another occasion expect help. You cant keep taking, you need to give too. Maybe we talking Karma but I also believe what goes around comes around. I've been in bad positions and received help and also been in bad positions and not received help. I'd never be able to leave someone in that position where they can see people purposefully ignoring or avoiding you when you need help. Sickens me

    Monday funny

Haha, good one *makes note as can't remember jokes*
  11. Im no expert, just out of AFF myself, but the key is to relax. Could be this added pressure of desperatly not wanting to fail again is whats causing your issues. I did 10 mins in the tunnel after level 3 to cure some instability issues induced by my wafty legs! Don't give up, maybe try the tunnel and have another go. If you have issues with paticular instructor perhaps have discreet word with DZO. Your paying alot of money after all, reasonable to request another instructor if possible. Some people don't suit others learning styles. Theres plenty of people on this site that took many more jumps than your taking to get off each level and some of them are now really competent skydivers. Chin up!

    500!!

Now a special skydiving occasion. Dont tell me there wasnt pictures or video!
  13. I agree with that, but its sad really. You are not obliged to give your details if you've helped someone however if you are a witness you will have to I believe. To me that doesn't matter. If they need statements or whatever I'll be happy to provide them
  14. I'm sure there is. Maybe thats what I'm hoping to hear from this thread. Give me a bit of faith again. We had an 80 year old take on a couple of guys unarmed in an armed robbery of a security van last week Thats probably more because hes a silly old bastard though! they shot at him twice, but first missed, second glanced off his body hitting a bunch of keys in his side pocket. Crazy old git!
  15. Erm... no! Just to add a bit of balance
  16. Haha well done, unusual technique but did the job! I'm no 9 foot 400 lb monster but I like to think I can handle myself. Anyway, if I get a couple of punches but I stop someone getting badly beaten or raped I could live with that. To know I'd walked by and done nothing then see it in the news the next day however, I couldn't live with that
  17. Unless you rescue 28 orphans from a burning orphanage your not going to get that kind of attention. Im talking real possible scenarios. Guy choking in a restaraunt, someone found injured, intervening when it looks like some guys getting a bit physical wth some girl. If you walk on by, in my opinion, you should expect the same. If you femur yourself on a wafty landing by rights everyone should walk on by and leave you where you are to fend for yourself. And the pigeon is well and truly dead! Maybe its culling for the bird flu
  18. Just had incident outside my house, kids knocked a pigeon out of a tree and kicked it, stamped on it etc. My Mum goes absolutely beserk and goes outside to challenge them. Not surprising you may think, but if it had been an attack on another person or a fight as has happened before I get the 'it's not worth getting involved' speech. What a load of bollocks. I always go and see whats going on. If someones hurt, help them. First aid, whatever. If someones broke down, see if you can help, perhaps offer to call recovery for them. If it looks like a fights occuring at least call the police and observe. If you fear for someones life like in the case of an attack, get involved. You have a moral obligation in my opinion. To all those selfish fuckers that walk on by. I hope if you ever get attacked or need help that everyone decides that they don't want to get involved at your time of need. [/rant]
  19. I think we should have a thread dedicated to the best of skydiving videos so that whuffos, newbies and regular skydivers alike can filter through the garbage and watch the best. Whats you favourite video? Mine is of a tandem believe it or not. Freefly Euphoria introducing someone to the sky in the best possible way... http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1966&string=freefly%20euphoria%20tandem
  20. One of my favourite videos is of a tandem. The guys of freefly euphoria taking a family member on a tandem and although tandem is belly to earth the guys are back flying and stuff docking with him. It looks awesome fun and the best introduction you could possibly have to skydiving. He enjoys it so much he does another one straight away! Nice one guys http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1966&string=freefly%20euphoria%20tandem
  21. Awesome. In awe of those pics. Its all about capturing the moment. I paticularly liked 19 and 24
  22. Yeah, Ill lend you my hair clippers too. You can sport a nice grade one buzz like me! If they give you any grief, just make them bite the kerb. You know how the rest goes
  23. I really don't care. I have the option to use the site or not. As it happens I really like it and found it an invaluable source of information throughout my AFF. Use of websites like this is a privelage not a right. Either live with it or don't use it, why make big deal out of things Edit: As a newbie I was constantly cross referancing peoples comments about products with manufacturers sites and also gear reviews to help my knowledge of different products. This seems to work nicely for that. Why didn't you do it sooner
