had a new thought..maybe i could use the 2 grand i had intended to use for repairs as a down payment, trade in my hunk 'o' junk passat for a little bit more of a down payment, and just get a new damn car. assuming they'd approve us lol....thanks again for the suggestions yall. im starting to feel a little better! ok so i guess ill call around. i didnt realize that used parts were an option! i have no idea about what it takes to put an engine in a car...my husband always worked on his vehicles himself..but he doesnt know shit about my car. he had a classic bug, but thats a lot different. if he could do it himself that would rock...but i dont want to put faith in that. thanks for the help guys..at least i know im not getting totally screwed here. if anyone in the chicago area knows any good mechanics please lemme know! thanks again Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison! -

that is a really good idea. the only thing is, my car is sitting at VW now. i think the charges are for having it taking up space in their shop when its not being worked on. we just got one of those car dolly/trailor things and took it across the street to the VW dealer..i guess we could go get it again to take it somewhere else. maybe if we got a better estimate somewhere else VW would match it? ughhh im in tears right now. this is KILLING any plans for AFP i may have had in the near future....i know i know, transportation is more important than skydiving..or is it?! uuugghh...this really really really really sucks! i have the 4 cylinder turbo. sorry if this is a stupid question, but would putting in a totally new engine fix everything??? or would there be other repairs as well? would the new engine already have ALL these parts im supposed to be buying separately? my husband has looked up costs for a totally built engine and they are less than this by almost a 1000. of course thats excluding labor...i dont think he knows enough about the engine in my car to do something like that. would that be a possible solution? why wouldnt the VW guys have given me that option? 1998 VW Passat, around 75,000 miles..cant remember exactly the guy said this is VERY rare, that my timing belt should NOT have gone out like that until around 105,000. he said he called VW to see if they'd cover it, and they wont. i had 2 grand set aside for repair costs. but now im looking almost an extra thousand! so hes bein legit with me i guess? this freaking SUCKS! oh and im not quite gullible enough to go for the headlight fluid thing...close, but not quite -

ok, so i have a VW, and it stopped running like 2 weeks ago. we towed it in, and this is what the mechanics are saying: my timing belt 'jumped timing'. it has zero clearance between pistons and valve head, so valve head bent. cost: 1800.00 upper portion (im assuming this means 'of engine') 1805.60 cylinder head 61.00 head gasket 10.08 head bolts (x10) 210.59 timing belt and tensioner(sp?) 35.00 VC Gas 892.00 10.5 hours of labor my husband is out of town and i cant reach him, i just talked to this guy. are they screwing me here? do these costs sound right? i have to give this guy the go-ahead by tomorrow or i get charged MORE, and since i cant get my husband to answer the phone, i wanna know if these VW folks are tryin to fuck me. so anyone here that knows cars - HELP! just curious..whats your reason for not reccommending a ruger? i had a KP94 not too long ago, just got rid of it actually, and i never had a problem with it. my dad's always owned rugers and this one he gave to me. he never had a problem either. i have a glock 26 now and like it even more, but still..just wondering what your experience was with rugers

National Self Injury Awareness Day (March 1)
Misslmperfect replied to skysprite's topic in The Bonfire
i had a CLOSE friend in jr high and high school who i found out later was a cutter. i knew her for almost 2 years when 1 night when i was over at her house, she walked out in shorts. her chins looked like tic tac toe boards. all up and down the front and back, just covered with scars. when she did wear shorts, and that was rarely, she always wore knee high socks. i just thought it was the way she liked to dress. id never seen anything like that, she refused to talk about it, and a few months later she left that school, got sent somewhere, and i never saw her again. it blew my mind how well she hid it. she had a good family, LOTS of friends, she was involved in all kinds of sports and extracurriculars.....you just never know whats going on inside a persons head. i think its great that people are trying to raise public awareness about this. i have a feeling a lot of parents dont even know this exists....that it could affect their child or their child's friends. i would think that a lot of people feel alone in this. its not something anyone talks about, and maybe they dont realize they're not the only ones? hopefully it will be easier soon for everyone who needs it to get some help. ATTN: PET OWNERS: Don't do what I did!!!!!

im so not trying to burst your bubble here, but i would say research a little more before you buy. just because ive seen those insurance companies in action. we had a lady come in with a very sick kitty with cancer amongst other things, racked up 2000 in medical bills, and the insurance wouldnt cover anything. thats just 1 story. same company as you speak of im pretty sure. we have their brochures in our lobby. when they get older and require routine senior blood work and dental work, and other things older animals should have, then pet insurance can help, but for what it seems like you're wanting to usie it for - ive seen a lot of people get screwed. just speaking from observation at my clinic. ill agree with that! spielburg even said, before listing the nominees, that best film was a combination of ALL elements. i noticed this year that not ONE single actor/actress from LOTR was nominated for anything having to do with their accomplishments ON screen. im not sure if they have in the past. call me crazy, but i think thats one hell of a factor when considering 'all' the elements. not saying their acting was poor, but others' in other films was much better. as far as the technical stuff goes - camera, special effects, costume, blah blah etc...they definately earned it. but no way best film. just my opinion though. on another subject, anyone else notice how HOT angelina jolie looked in that dress?! so you would rather live with the possibility that someone could more easily take yours? if an intruder has a weapon, more than likely that dog isnt going to do you any good. i agree with your point about the .22 but, a .22 is capable of doing some damage if need be. im not saying everyone should own a gun. not at all. and im not saying i think you're wrong! but i think that if safety is a concern for someone, there are MANY ways to safely own a firearm. as far as someone using my weapon against me, it'd be close to impossible for an intruder, or anyone for that matter, to find it. much less use it. i totally understand your concerns. all im saying is, if someone with those concerns were thinking of owning a gun, there are ways to ease them. you can safely own a gun. i dont claim to know when the end of the world will come...or whether it even will. i believe in God, i believe in Christ, and that he died for me. i dont go to church, because ive yet to find one thats not built on political and financial gain. if i did, id attend weekly. i realize that it is the Christian way to 'spread the word', that Christians as a whole are supposed to teach the words of Christ to all who will listen. i choose not to do this. my faith is just that. MY faith. what right do i have to impose my beliefs on anyone? i believe that anyone who has faith is good in God's eyes. faith in anything at all. good people are good people, regardless of religion/ Christian denomination. i wish these ongoing, ENDless battles about who's right and who's wrong, about the accuracy of the bible, the accuracy of films, the accuracy of another man's beliefs, would just end. love life. love YOUR God, whomever he may be. be a good person, and be happy. you cant go wrong. in the end, none of this debating is really going to matter anyway. you will never convince a person that you are right and they were wrong. you can preach all you want, but NO ONE knows. thats why its called FAITH. some have it, some dont. i choose to live my life with faith in God because it makes me a better person. it brings me happiness and love. it fulfills me. if i die and there is no God, at least i was a better person in life because of the faith that i had. i saw the movie last night. i cried for about an hour and a half. it broke my heart. but it made me grateful for what i have. it makes me not want to take my life for granted. i think we all could use that from time to time. Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!

if i were to be in a situation where i had to shoot an intruder, my intention wouldnt be to kill him/her. it would be to stop them from doing whatever it is they were doing. to keep them from being able to harm me and on the ground long enough for the cops to show up. of course, there are exceptions...but no need to go into that here. i dont own a gun because i want to kill people. i own one for protection. murder isnt protection. the only time ive shot a gun with the intention of killing anything was when i was deer hunting.
