  1. LOL it cracks me up that you found that so quickly. at one point i actually thought i was pretty well educated about computers, since i took the ever so advanced a+ course 2 years ago lmao. unfortunately nothing stuck. thanks SO much! looks like i have a fight ahead of me to get rid of this crap. lets just hope i dont make things worse!!!! Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  2. ok ive noticed a lot of yall are pretty computer literate, and well...me, not so much lol. my husband's had my laptop for the last few months while working out of town, and now hes back, and has brought a worm along with him. somehow, while he was gone, he managed to get rid of the antivirus program and the firewall! sadness.exe i think is what the worm is called. the firewall i just reinstalled keeps blocking it, but i know its on here somewhere. norton keeps finding infected files, but cant delete em or repair em. and when i quarantine them, somehow they come back. i dont know much at all about FWs or norton, just that i need them lol. so im pretty limited as to what i can do with them on my own. i googled sadness.exe, and i cant find a removal program or anything. any advice? thanks in advance..this sucks!!!! mel Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  3. hi lory, i saw your post in my thread asking if my tandem was fun, but since you now have your own thread, ill answer you here with a huge HELL YES! so fun in fact, that my husband and i both decided to go through AFP this spring when our local DZ opens. i am in absolutely no place to give any kind of skydiving related advice, but i will say this. i would definately reccommend tandem first. this may not apply to everyone and im sure many many people did their first jump solo and did it well. but i personally cannot imagine experiencing skydiving for the first time and being in that much control! i think i would have enjoyed it lesss. tandems are great in that you get to experience the feeling of freefall and being under canopy without having to worry about much. not saying you shouldnt be aware during a tandem, but you have someone very qualified and experienced attached to you who can take over if something goes wrong, or you freeze up. again, take my advice with a grain of salt..just my thoughts and personal preferences. good luck and have FUN! you'll remember the experience for the rest of your life!!!!! mel Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  4. i grew up in tx, dallas to be exact, and just moved away 2 yrs ago in june. and its horrible! lol. b/c of my husbands job ive been to a few different places for extended periods of time, and none of em compare to tx! ive been in illinois for over a year and i think it would be ok living here if i knew anyone. the winter SUCKS big time, but other than that its alright..nothing like texas though! Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  5. thanks for the post!! as march is quickly approaching ive been thinking more and more about what lies ahead in AFP for me. for some reason, and ive discussed this with some people on here, freefall doesnt get my nerves going, being under canopy does. i think that is because while in freefall during my tandem i had to keep my mind on one thing - altitude - pull at 5000. once under canopy my instructor was explaining to me about turns, flaring, winds, etc....theres more but my skydiving vocabulary is limited lol. so in my mind, its like freefall is simple and landing a canopy safely is incredibly difficult. i KNOW thats not the way it is, and they take equal amounts of education and training, but thats the way my mind has decided its going to be lol. the more i think about my first solo canopy ride, the more nervous i get. ive been reading some incident reports about low turns and improper flares (correct term?) and the damage that they can do, and thats just feeding the nerves. so i dont go there anymore. i think that after my first solo (well, AFP solo) when ill be in full control of my canopy, ill realize that i CAN in fact handle it, and your post has really inspired me in the fact that fears can be conquered..and not to let them consume you or hold you back. i still have 1 more tandem, and im hoping to have a little more control under canopy..or at least gain a little more knowledge about why you do what you do and when. im sure that will ease some tensions...but thanks for the post! its really encouraging! Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  6. JOE DIRT JOE DIRT JOE DIRT! Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  7. you can! messina hof is excellent. the choice of ol' dubbya too! lmao. actually, im from tx as well as my whole family, so i ordered the barrel reserve chardonnay and the port and had them shipped to the venetian in vegas for the wedding. definately an EXCELLENT choice for chardonnays. downside is, you pay for shipping. good call!! Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  8. lol im 22 and my husbands 26, and we're both just starting. all those wasted years!!!! Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  9. i cant help ya with red wines, but if as far as a white goes, id suggest a good pinot grigio instead of the traditional chardonnay. and since you live in cali, Estancia Pinot Grigio, vintage 2002 is the way to go imo. while chardonneys have apple/lemon flavors, pinots are more pear/melon. but dont get me wrong..not fruity at all. the estancia is around $20/bottle. if you're buying more than a few bottles theres also rancho zabaco reserve. $11/bottle, but its not lacking in quality.estancia '00 is a good chardonnay if you go that route and i just looked it up and i think 12 bottles is around 96, 6 bottles for around 50. hope that helps
  10. i work at a vet clinic, and we have 3 glider owners that come in on a regular basis. because of that ive had to do some somewhat extensive studying on em. some KEY factors to consider: when they get stressed out they have a tendancy to mutilate themselves. you HAVE to get 2. having only one will lead to some serious problems. their diet is very simple. fruits, veggies, and glider food. if you cant find it in a pet store it can be ordered. also, seriously consider a vitamin supplement. they're really picky eaters and can easily suffer from vitamin deficiency. as far as housing goes, the bigger the cage the better, and gliders NEED a natural light source. if their room is under 70 though, they need a heat source. REMEMBER: they're nocturnal. they make some strange sounds and they do it at night. some people cant handle the crabbing. you'll need to let them out of their cages; if you dont they stress out and will die or mutilate. if you have other pets, a glider isnt a good idea. if you start seriously considering it PM me, i have pamphlets at work i can scan or copy for you. hope that helps! mel Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  11. ok, most of you dont know me and this is my first 'real' post here, other than in the intros forum. but something struck me as totally odd and im curious of all of your opinions. when i wake up in the morning i grab my coffee, read cnn.com, check my mail, and sometimes go in this one chat room for people in the animal care business. just talk about new treatments, meds, ways of doing things, etc...no big deal. well this morning this guy FREAKED out on me telling me that it is disrespectful to my marriage for me to be in a chat room. im betraying my husband by conversing with other men (i was talking to women too) over the internet. the thought never entered my mind! after that, numerous other people vocalized their agreement with him. he stated that he would never put up with his woman, as he so eloquently put it, getting on the internet and chatting with other guys. am i the only one that sees nothing wrong with this? i mean, if i'm just there to chat be friendly, and my intentions are innocent, am i disrespecting my husband? what do yall think? thanks! mel Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  12. ohhh, i saw that one! its a show called 'perfect proposals' on TLC. yeah, that was just about the best proposal ive ever witnessed. well, second to mine of of course Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  13. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! i have absolutely no idea who you are, but damnit, happy birthday anyway!!!!!! Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  14. that is TOO FUNNY! i bought my husband his tandem as a gift; i didn't even expect to to do one that day. i wanted to, but it was kind of like a 'make this day about him thing'. but when i got there i knew if i left without doing it, id hate myself for the rest of my life lmao. so i ran back in manifest and signed up. we even got to go up on the same load, and he landed about 30 secs before me. the best feeling in the world was running up to him after i landed and hugging him, knowing we had just shared the coolest, most amazing thing ever. anywho...its so great to have somewhere to blab about this!!! its been building up all winter Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  15. LOL!!! not at all! i was cracking up. i just sat back and watched. i didnt want to barge in on yalls conversation. i actually ended up meeting some very cool people!!! Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  16. thanks! im not aware of what safety day is, but i'll look into it. i also know that the spring expo is gonna be going on at SDC, and im really interested in going. if any of you are in the area, or have been before, could you let me know if going to the expo would be worthwhile for me? im sure a lot of it will be over my head, but im also sure i can probably learn a bunch. thanks for the responses guys! i feel welcome already!!! mel Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
  17. yeah, im really hoping that ross is an AFP instructor as well. i felt so at ease with him. and in response to your suggestions, ive been reading everything i can get my hands on! i almost feel as if i'm going overboard, considering ive only done 1 tandem lmao. but i want to be as prepared as possible for what lies ahead. i just wish i didnt have to wait until spring to do it! the few people i did get to meet while i was there were so great and encouraging. im just hoping that ill be able to find my place there with the more experienced jumpers. i can tell you all are like a family, and im thinking its gonna hard to work my way in there! its like the first day at a new school...somewhat intimidating. oh well, such is life.
  18. hey yall. i'm mel, from romeoville, illinois. i was told that this was the place to go first when you sign up for this website. so here i am! i've only done 1 tandem, then it got cold. but i had the BEST instructor in the world (thanks ross!!!), at SDC, and am SO psyched to get back there this spring and start AFP. (the hubby too!!!!) anywho, just thought id say hello and introduce myself. im really looking forward to getting to know all of you! any words of wisdom for someone just getting into the sport would be great! feel free to message me or whatever! thanks! mel Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
