1) Broke my right thumb running through the house and getting it stuck in the door. Heard a [crack!]... was confused 2) Opened one of those disposable cameras that say "do not open for risk of electric shock." Woke up on the floor, mom screaming. 3) Frizbee to the face requires stiches and new shirt --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

Static line jumpers, best to ignore them?
Floats18 replied to artistcalledian's topic in The Bonfire
You know, he's right in all of this... AFF jumpers do think they're better than static line (IAD) students. I've seen it at 2 different drop zones. Its true that AFF is a quick way to a goal that takes 14 or so static progression jumps to attain but I was static line so consider this: I've never left an aircraft with someone holding my hand [or harness] for me unless I have wanted them to. This Guy needs no in-air coddling! See picture for what an AFF needs in the air! --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training -
I think that you should grow some balls and ask that girl out. Ever hear of the ladder theory? All her instructors are cooler than you, and more interesting too. Your only chance is to stab them in the eye. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

In a CAD design class we needed to design and build a toy w/ 'significant kinematic motion' and I couldn't think of a cooler toy w/ motion than a toy skydiver. SO I convinced my group to build an RC skydiver which will deploy and steer a mineature parachute. I helped model the body and assembly, and built the 'cute. Attached is a model of the body, but I'll get pictures of this thing flying when its all said and done. (Its due on the 15th of December) I hope it'll work like I want it to, but I know that the parachute is going to fly... if anything its just going to decend on a very straight landing pattern . The body isn't completely assembled yet, but I'll get pictures up here when we do. Its also been modified for usability after these shots were extracted, and it was manufactured in clear plastic so the colors will be different... but you'll get the idea. Most of the time engineering sucks ass, but this project has been a lot of fun! That and interviewing for full time jobs (Graduating in May), I've been flown all over the country! I'll be in Dallas on the 28th, if anyone is going to jump on Monday let me know! --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

I'll get back to you next semester... after we get graded Seems like there might be a demand for these... I should start cranking them out. I'm going to need a sweatshop though, 'cuz sewing that one was enough for me and my ego. that and room mates frown on sewing machines... they get in the way of the kegerator --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

I've gotta build a line set and then I'll get it airborne ASAP. I've held it in front of a fan and it wanted to fly out of my hands, so I can't wait to try it out w/ the 'real' thing. Luigi already knows, I shouldn't be talking about this... its top secret We call it the 'Suicide Bomber' --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

We had to build a toy for this CAD design class... so I convinced my group to build a R/C parachute guy! I had no idea how much of a BITCH it is to sew up a parachute. HOLY CRAP that ZP is slippery and I've never sewed before in my life... I better get an A --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

For ME444 at Purdue [Senior Year w00t] Its a 7 Cell, 3sq Foot, 2.25 Aspect Radio toting beauty. Yes she does fly! I don't think I'd trust my life to my sewing, so she'll stay with the R/C model we made, but she looks damn sexy (at least in my head). Let me know how much you think it sucks! --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

I hate packing SO GOD DAMNED MUCH [mad]

Dude, here's a way to cheat the bagging: Make your 2nd 's' fold first and put the top of the parachute in the bag nice an neat, then make your 1st 's' fold second and just stuff that thing where its supposed to go and it will fill the bag! It might not be pretty, but at least you don't have to pull it out like a pansy --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training -

Do you want to see video of skydivers burning in?
Floats18 replied to Vectracide's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think we can learn a lot from malfuction videos, especially ones from the jumper's point of view. They teach us what malfunctions look like and show us how the jumper solved his/her problem. The posted video was not a malfunction video you can learn from. You could clearly learn something from the story behind the video, but watching the video itself will not teach any new skydiving skills. In this sport is is extremely important to learn from those who came before us, including ones that made mistakes, so that we can enjoy it safely. I personally believe that no sport parachutist has anything to gain from watching the posted video. Are sewing machines dying a slow death?
Floats18 replied to MikeForsythe's topic in Gear and Rigging
Only in skydiving will guys drool over sewing machines and stand in circles holding hands wearing brightly colored full body suits. I love it! --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training -
UntamedDOG is the author of a post a while back titled 'Desire to witness a fatility' about how he wants to watch someone go in so he can become a more 'seasoned' skydiver: "I find myself a bit eager to experience the rush of a skydiving fatality firsthand." As someone who's been there for that, I give you the finger. Take your morbid interest in death somewhere else. Anyone who can say what you said in that thread and in the above post does not deserve the magic of this sport. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

I demo'd a Sentry for about 20 jumps and it was pretty sweet... Beautiful openings and a very stable platform. I only had about 30 jumps when I got it, so from a beginner's perspective... it was the perfect canopy for me. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
