  1. SO I got a jobsite interview with Goodyear tires in lovely Akron, OH. It happens to be right near AirOhio and I'm real excited about that. They're flying me out free of charge, and in order to save the company some money they're having me do a couple of lay-overs. Check out the route! Saves 400$ over flying directly there - WTF? We need to have manefest run the airline industries; people would sit on each other's laps and you would go from point A to point B and thats all you get- no BULLS#$T! edit 'cuz I forgot the upload --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  2. I wasn't thinking of this to be a perminent fix; Cypres is working on a solution to the problem. I just think that there should be a dumb solution between now and when the new version comes out. Placing the control unit somewhere conspicuous and 'out of fashon' would be worth it to me. About the Astra - People choose the cypres because of its reliability and reputation which the Astra does not carry. I'm not looking to change product, just change the way some people take advantage of the security of the Cypres until the company comes out with a permanent fix. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  3. I'm no HP canopy pilot and I will not pretend to be, but I was thinking about the cypres problem - Why don't 'hard core' swoopers attach their control units where they can see them and deactivate the cypres after deployment? I can't think of many problems except for wasted battery life in turning the unit on and off, but if I were in such a position I would be willing to sacrafice the batteries, IMHO. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

  8. Searched it, seems like most canopys fall between 7 Cell 1.8 -----> Radical 321 cell xbrace 2.9 A conservative 9 cell aspect ratio would be somewhere around 2.3? --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  9. Hey All, Just trying to figure out the ratio between sides on a rectangular 9 cell canopy. i.e. total sq feet = length x width, and there must be a relation length/width = some constant 'C'. WTF is c? --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  10. I appreciate the concerns, I definately wouldn't want to meet the guy that the ball falls on. My DZ right now is not in a very populated area... My principal concern would be hitting the hangers/ aircraft because it is a grass strip surrounded by corn. indiana sucks. I guess the only thing to do is jump with real live people... Damn! --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  11. Hey - I've seen freeflyers play with a tennis ball on the way down, can RW junkies use one too? I'm thinking about when you're doing solo jumps you could RW around a stationary point. I'm pretty green so people might do this already, but I have yet to see it. How do I make one? --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  12. If real skydivers were involved, why did they use a round 'chute? My only guess was that they wanted it to look like a bailout, but if it was a bailout then why the reserve? I know its just a movie, but as someone who's tried to get large groups of people to escape their misconceptions... inconsistency SUCKS Plus, this is probably why my parents think I'm trying to kill myself --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  13. Man, that Arnold can sure go head down. That and it was amazing that he cut away his main and still landed w/ his three rings hooked up after deploying his reserve @ 30 feet. Not to mention that his rear float exit was KILLER! Did actual skydivers do the mid-air footage? You'd have to pay me a LOT of money to wrap myself up in a round. I did see that they used a vector container, I wonder how they worked that out. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  14. This girl from school comes up to me today and says, "What's with you this summer? You're always going to the airport, you didn't even come visit me that Saturday when I was 2 hours away. You've been so 'flakey' recently." I think she thinks the airport is the 'other' girl. Some girls just can't take the competition. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  15. Haha, I'm at Purdue in Indiana... the nearest water around here is swirling around my bathroom . As for the club, I wish I could be so lucky... there isn't one that I know of. I just started the Skydiving club here back up and thats all the club I can handle management wise right now. Thanks for the idea. Thanks for the info everyone, I'm gonna download that video and check it out. I love the wind --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  16. Are there kiteboarding schools as there are skydiving schools? Or is it a solo lesson activity? Any trainer power kites you would reccomend? 4 line? 2 Line? Most of the literature I found online seems to be for people who have already had some instruction. Finally, 1 succesful ride in 6 years?? That doesn't sound as rewarding as I thought it would --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

  18. I've packed w/o a weight, mostly just last weekend at the Richmond Boogie. It sucks! You wind up scooting forward a little bit at a time. I was told that packing w/o a weight is a good thing to learn, and its the truth because sometimes the big kids don't want to share . As for being short, at least people won't get upset w/ you taking up too much room in the plane! --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  19. Hey, that stuff looks really awesome! I saw someone rocking that out up north in MI once, but he wasn't nearly as good as when you see them on TV [but then again when is a jumper w/ 90 jumps as good as the ones on TV anyway? ] I figure that someone on DZ.com has tried it, as we're in the brotherhood of wind-powered flight. I'd like to know what it takes to get started. Any pearls of wisdom? --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  20. If holding the canopy is what hurts you... you could use a large weight [on the container] and use that to lean yourself at a angle to get access to the nose. You can also twist the job so that the weight [from the canopy] is still only on your shoulder and work the nose from the side before you finish. When I pack tandems I usually twist the job to my left when I roll the tail so I can get at it easier. edit 'cuz im stupid [stuff in here] --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  21. As a packer and one that studied under Stratostar and his gang, I've gotta agree w/ that guy. People who say that rolling the nose doesn't do anything need to jump my Pro-Series with and without the nose rolled, and I'm not paying for the vasectomy reversal! Nose rolling/folding creates a much nicer, softer opening. When I roll noses I already have the tail wrapped around the top of the 'chute and I hold the whole job away from me w/ my right hand and fold w/ my left. Make sure that your center cell is not obstructed by the two cell groups on the outside, it will help your canopy open on-heading. One of the other packers at my home DZ swears that the best way to pack a slow opening is to take the slider and pull the whole thing to the front of the job, completely outside the line groups. I have then seen jumpers wrap the slider around the outside of the job, on top of the stab's. I don't prefer to pack canopys this way, however. My advice is that if your parachute opens fine the way you've been packing it, don't change what you're doing! edited to clarify --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training

  25. Yo Dude, A friend and I are re-starting a club at Purdue this fall. Its not so hard, as long as you find enough kids to start it and a staff advisor. You need to find out where the student life office is and they will help you find the right paperwork. After that, its just pencil pushing and getting relations straight with the DZ... and no one can help you with that If you can't get your club rolling for one reason or another, there's always a party at Purdue on the ground or in the air. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
