  1. You know what the problem with Hollywood is? They make shit. Unbelievable, unremarkable shit. Now I'm not some grungy wannabe filmmaker that’s searching for existentialism through a haze of bong-smoke or something. No, It's easy to pick apart bad acting, short-sighted directing, and a purely moronic stringing together of words that many of the studios term as prose. No, I'm talking the lack of realism. Realism. Not a pervasive element in today’s modern American cinematic vision. Take Dog Day Afternoon for example. Arguably Pacino's best work, short of Scarface and Godfather, Part I of course. A masterpiece of directing, easily Lumet's best. The cinematography, the acting, the screenplay, all top notch. But...... they didn't push the envelope. Now what if in Dog Day, Sonny really wanted to get away with it? What if, now this is the tricky part. What if he started killing hostages right away? No mercy, no quarter, meet our demands or the pretty blonde in the bell bottoms gets it in the back of the head, bam, splat. What? Still no bus? C’mon… How many innocent victims splattered across the window would it take to have the city reverse its policy on hostage situations? And this is 1976. There’s No C.N.N., there’s no C.N.B.C., there’s no there’s no Internet. Now fast forward to today, present time, same situation. How quickly would the modern media make a frenzy of it. In a matter of hours it would be the biggest story from Boston to Budapest. Ten hostages die, Twenty, Thirty. Relentless, Bam, bim, one after another. All caught in high def, computer enhanced, color corrected. You can practically taste the brain matter. All for what, A bus, a plane, a couple of million dollars that’s federally insured? Just a thought. I mean it’s not, within the realm of conventional cinema but, what if? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  2. I agree, although I havent' been there. YET. I would get my best buds and get everyone to fly HD around each other for the last time. Then i'd go b.t.e and watch them fall away and open, letting me just drop past them under canopy. Either that or a bunch of wingsuits. Then i'd go head down and close my eyes, crack a huge smile and laugh my ass off. You won't know a thing! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  3. So say you know for a fact you will die tommorow. You go and make your last skydive - you can include anyone, anything. what would you do? or do you know of any people that decided to quit and had a memorable last jump? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  4. Thanx, that helped. Yeah, i'm lazy and it is great to have other people guide me where i need to look for info so quickly.
  5. Explain what happened in the 1980's that made many people in the U.S. "forget" about the oil crises of the 1970's and, in many ways, relapse into a pattern of oil consumption and non-conservation This is the second question of three for a paper I have to do. For thos of you who was there, or studied it, What made you forget about the crisis? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  6. I was seriously interested in a particular MLM business a few months ago. Although it is a proven theory, there are several problems. You have to be 100% plugged in and commited to do it. I saw fellow people work VERY hard at it, and they enjoyed the benefits. By FAR the most people never see this success and is simply making money for their "upline" (NOT A BOSS!). Also, the people who did enjoy these benefits sat back and stopped working, and unlike it is promised, their business and their profits started decreasing. To have a business where you can totally stop working and be hands off, you have to leave some sort of leadership structure in place. I can give you endless advice and information as I was VERY involved in this, read many books on it and talked to many people about it. If you need to know more, let me know. I dont want to bore people to death here! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

    YAWN!!!

Not the only one... I took a trip to another time zone this weekend, cam back and forgot about setting the clock, also being a little confused about the time. No wonder I was sitting at the bus stop in the rain wondering why the bus hasn't shown up yet! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  9. Thats pretty sweet! Yeah, he did climb good, it was just funny to see him be all climber after ive seen a few of his westerns. Also the start where he has this hot chick in class ask him to get with him, and he turns her down. HA! So more on a geogrpahy/geology note, why is colorado's peaks more "gentle" than those in the alps? Look at the matterhorn, it is huge and steep, where as some 14ers in CO isn't as steep at all. I haven't been to the tetons, but It looks like they are quite a bit lower, (12 above 12), but steeper as well? Any geologist want to give me an answer? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  10. What defines the eastern edge of Europe? I had a discussion with a friend about high mountains. Mt. Elbrus is apparently the highest in Europe, but is it in europe? Where is the line? Mont Blanc in France is the second highest after Elbrus. So it could be said that it is is the highest in Western Europe. Where is the line? Was I right? (Mont Blanc) or was he right (elbrus). And where do I find other information on other mountains such as Yungfrau and Matterhorn and so forth? (a good european mountaineering site). (on the subject of mountians - if you haven't seen clint eastwood's attempt at being stallone, go get "the eiger sanction" - pretty funny!) --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  11. I wanna see some footage of that hitting the water! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  12. yeah dammit....i'm failing my math 123, which would count for two requirements. Dammit I gotta work on that. The other night when I should have been studying, I was playing gtar, and i would tell myself, practice this and get it right, then go study. I would then go on and play all night long, putting off my hw. If it wasnt for the studying/putting it off, I wouldn't be half as good as I am on the gtar now. Not that I'm any good. But i'm better than bad. i heeeate studying.... sunofabeeeeeatch --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  13. Does anyone have any idea where I can find video of anyone jumping it? (online that is) Does any footage even exist? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

  15. That would be kentucky. I've always heard that there are some bigass caves here (besides mammoth). I will def. get in touch with my local grotto now. Thanks, that was exactly what I was looking for! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  16. So i live in one of the states with the most caves ever. I want to explore them. I know there has to be some sort of society or group that does this, but I cannot find them. Isn't there a spelunker society somewhere? Anyone in here a caver? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  17. Ok, I dont want to spend forever looking for a picture when you all probably know where to find one. I am looking for a sweet picture of a swoop that will show to a whuffo how fast and long swoops are. So a pondswoop with a toe is probably best. and where do I find pictures from the Ranch meet? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  18. No I dont, because I'm in Bangladesh and it is Thursday here. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  19. My friend called me while I was on the way to the DZ, and she knew I was jumping that day. My windows were open, and I didn't bother closing them before answering. Whatsup? What r u doin? Not much, you? Ahhh, just skydiving... (holding the phone out the window for a few seconds) Hangon, what was that? I couldnt hear you, I had to do flip. Hey, I'll call you back later OK, I gotta pull real quick! I hung up and called her back in 5 minutes, acting out of breath. She couldn't believe it, told me that she told everyone at work and thought it was the coolest! (people have some weird ideas about skydiving i tell ya!) --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  20. sold subarus for a while. Quite fun. First day out on the floor I sold an outback that had 12500 in it for 14900. THat was a sweet day. Eveyone thought I was a madman. Lesson - simply make people like you. Those customers and me got along very well, he was a pilot, and we chatted. After that I was way uptight and nervous, and it affected my sales a LOT. Good luck with selling man, its a lot of fun! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  21. vist4info is also another great source for these. I love scanning through them. My favorite is the "bugger" (toyota) ad from australia. Bugger me! I don't know why the US doesn't come up with some great commercials. It is an interesting point. Brazil has awesome ones, so does the netherlands, germany and britian. Australia and New Zealand is also quite good, and off course South Africa takes the cake. But why not the US? I think that the population in the US is simply so broad and general, that if you want to advertise something to a lot of people, you cannot just appeal to one sense of humor. I guess that is the only thing that stops the US from coming up with a lot of funny ads. I wish that the US had a more defined sense of humor, like the Brits. Then we wouldn't have to channel surf and miss our shows due to commericals. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  22. possibly a repost, sorry if it is. But I figured you all would enjoy this. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/sweetstory.html --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  23. I twisted my ankle a week ago. At the time it hurt like hell, but was OK in 10 minutes. For a week now it has just been there, kind of hard to walk on, occasionally giving me a jolt of pain. Can I run on it? Should I just be a bum until it recovers? Not sure if activity is good or bad for it at this point. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  24. I guess I will just see you all when the time rolls around. If you hear or know of any local activity, please let me know if it is an apropriate experience for me to learn something. I guess i'm just living in the wrong place to learn more about BASE. So be it. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  25. not to hijack - but do you all feel threatened at all by the increase of interest? Or is it purely a concern for safety and perception of the sport from the outside? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
